We rotated the chore by bookstudy group. When I was very small I liked to go up on the platform and look out on the chairs to get a different perspective from my usual position. My least fave was when it was time to pull weeds and wash windows.

Global Warming - it's happening right now, how will you respond?
by truthseeker inthis is really worrying.... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11951694/.
whatever the causes, whether you think it's global warming or just another cycle, millions of people will be affected and so will the animal kingdom.
how will you respond if the worst happens, and the sea starts lapping at your front door?

I'm worried about this like I'm worried about the fact that our sun is going to burn out in 4 billion years. This is just too convenient for the wacko environmentalists "Sky is Falling" politics (religion is a good way to describe it).
Don't forget that we now have a worldwide, bloated media industry that is starving for "content" and a huge percentage of the population that gets their hard info. from Hollywood movies.
If you really want to worry about something real, how about radical Islam and North Korea getting their hands on nuclear weapons.
When I was a kid we practiced curling up under our desks to prepare for an atomic bomb attack. Now that was upsetting.

Hey, don't knock it, the scarey shit still works.
I personally know someone who had washed their hands of the org. and then went back to it when the first Gulf War began. Of course, his change of heart only lasted a few months, then he came back to the real world.

Does anyone know if Ray Franz reads or participates in this site?
It seems to me he has always been very careful (for his own reasons) not to align himself with any particular XJW group or site. Still, it would be good to have a post from him occasionally, his perspective on various issues would obviously be very interesting to many of us.
Anyway, if you read this Ray, I wish you the best and hope you and yours are doing well.

WT FEB. 15 Barf quote on "Increasing Light"
by stillAwitness in"accepting a change when it comes and adapting to it can be difficult," admits one longtime elder.
what has helped him accept the many refinements he has witnessed in the 48 years that he has been a kingdom proclaimer?
he ansewrs: "having the right attitude is the key.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I don't read the Wacktower anymore and depend on you sharp eyed people out there to keep me current.
This is a jaw-dropper. That a 48 yr veteran elder could make such a statement is amazing, but the fact that the WT quoted it as an example of a good attitude is beyond the pale. This is truly the stuff of a Kool-Aid cult.
1. Peter was speaking directly to Jesus H. Christ, not the Watchtower Society nor even any first century governing body of apostles. The context was that Jesus had just told his disciples that they must drink his blood and eat his flesh and most of the group were grossed out and walked away.
2. The Watchtower is thus saying that whatever comes out of their mouths is the same as if being proclaimed by JC himself.
3. They refer to their flip-flops as "refinements". These refinements fall into two main categories - A. Backing off on their past 'light' because time and circumstances have rendered that light completely false (i.e. generation of 1914, Kings of the North & South, etc.) B. "Refinements" to get them out of a spot that left them vulnerable to law$uits.
Meanwhile they allow their faithful followers in Malawi to suffer hardships while they pragmatically "refine" their position in Mexico.

Theodore Jaracz
by TheListener inif as many here suggest tj is the boss and with schroeder's death has the capability of getting a 2/3 vote on key issues that come before the gb then....... what issues is he likely to press?.
perhaps someone here who is friends with ray franz could find out what issues or changes tj was particularly interested in that haven't occurred.. for example, was tj in favor of adding or taking away one meeting a week?
is he happy with the current theocratic ministry school arrangement?

Wasn't Schroeder pretty much in a semi-vegetative state for the past few years?
No, I believe he did eat fish and chicken fairly regularly.

Is wanting to be God like wanting to climb back into your mother?
by DavidChristopher inis the goal the beginning or the end?.
was our rebellion nessesary like a mama bird kicking the babies out so they will learn to fly?.
does god want us to be ambitious and intelligent?.

Until you get past the whole concept of "GOD" you will remain in the K through 3 grades of awareness. You will keep trying to make GOD fit into what you see, learn about and experience in real life. This will lead to the well known condition of being either a perpetual "seeker of spiritual wisdom" like new agers, new Buddhists, etc. or a gullible "consumer of pat, prepackaged answers", like JW's, Catholics, Muslims, ad nauseum...
The human arc of life from birth 'til death is no different than any other form of life, animal or vegetable -- birth, reproduction, death. All the stuff that happens during this cycle makes up our individual journeys. Enjoy it. This is it. If "you can't handle the truth" by all means jump into one of the above dilusions and knock yourself out. I couldn't give a shit less.

Elder™ sighting at work
by Scully infor background info: two elders came to visit this afternoon.
so i'm at work tonight and just before the coffee shop closes, i run downstairs to get something to drink to tide me over the next several hours.
as i approach the kiosque, i see a familiar face approaching from the opposite direction.

"Elders count on us being meek and submissive and somewhat in awe of their "position." When you don't exhibit those characteristics, they are thrown outside their comfort zone and become confused."
As he often does, 'olman said it best.
I would only add my observation that when someone is DF'd and it becomes known that their personal life has since gone in the toilet they are so pleased and comforted they eagerly share the bad news with each other. Kind of like the way a huge tsunami or earthquake disaster cheers them up. But if someone has been DF'd and has given them the 'bird' and is now obviously thriving in either a personal, financial, or spiritual way (i.e. appears happy and content) they are flumoxed and don't want to talk about or encounter that person. this is the type of person that the WTS reallty wants shunned.
