Respectfully, I think you are misinformed. Certainly no one missed the grim and sad results of this action. Japan surrendered in a matter of days.

Do you think a nuclear weapon will be used in war or terrorism in our time?
by free2beme inwith all those nukes out there, and all the countries that have them or are making them.
do you think it is something we should expect, that in our lifetime a nuclear weapon will be used in war or an act of terrorism?
i personally think it is possible, and i think it would be the middle east that would see this happening.

I don't see what Armageddon, God or Jesus has to do with a nuclear strike.
As usual, Robdar and I are in complete agreement on this. If some of you out there are still playing the old "the Bible said..." game and trying to use it to predict todays world events then you might as well get back to Jehoobers organization. They do it much better than you and they've got a huge infrastucture already in place to sell it.
free2b. If you are interested in a very interesting period of post WWII history I encourage you to read David McCulloughs biography "TRUMAN". It comes through quite clearly that Pres. Truman never second guessed himself about the A Bomb decision. Regrets? maybe, but in the context of wishing the whole situation had never happened. The Japanese were defeated but had turned into a nation ready for virtual suicide. The Bomb(s) stopped it cold.

Proplog, No argument here. I think I said the same thing a couple of posts back. If you have a finer point re. the US use of 2 A-bombs at the end of WWII I failed to catch it. Frankly, I think it is irrelevant. You're damned right there are those who would use a nuke at the drop of a hat if they could. And not in any military war scenario, but rather a non-military terrorist attack, i.e., the same people who recruit suicide bombers to kill a bus load of high school kids. The terrorists decision would be based on nothing more than the fact that they hate non-muslims, esp. us. Nope, it's not a pretty picture and that's why I am all for a pro-active defense of our country. We have tied up a lot of terrorists and their resources several thousand miles away from our shores since 9/11 and 5 yrs later our military loses are still short of the civilian loses we suffered in a three hour period on that infamous date. To me it's real simple, it's us or them. Collateral damage is the real world, not some neat, tidy Armageddon that zaps the wordly sinner without singeing the hair of the JW standing next to him.

Robdar, baby! You crack me up! I want my Mommy and my Teddy bear! LOL I didn't say I had not indulged in name calling. It's another pitfall that the internet makes too easy and since I can recall apologizing to a couple of folks here in the past for it I am going to make a sincere effort to avoid it. If you catch me at it again please bring it to my attention. (I've been doing pretty good in cutting back on the F word in my regular conversation, you'd be proud of me) You called me a Horses ass? Hey, I resemble that remark!
You have a great 4th too.

Even President Truman had second thoughts on what he did, and even regrets.
This is just flat not true. Another example of someone making use of that old internet chat room luxury of saying whatever you like with absolutly no accountability for its truthfulness or accuracy. Just as Robdar, the Brilliant One, told you, feel free to say whatever you want to say, (though I don't see how my reply could be taken as an order to be silent) take her example and lash out at anyone (especially a male) who disagrees with you and don't forget the name calling, the liberal substitute for an argument.

Did you have a Witness approved car?
by free2beme inwhen i was a witness, i was told that a responsible witness purchased a car that was able to be used in field service.
as an example, it would have four doors to allow easy entry for a car group of 4 to 6 people.
it was something that was not to showy, meaning it was not a lexus or something that would make it seem that witnesses were materialistic, especially when working a poor part of the community.

An elder in our cong had a big 4 door Caddy for service and a pumpkin orange Corvette with chrome wheels for his personal car. The other elders didn't know what to say. But they did mumble a lot.

You know, basically what we did in WW2.
Free2B. If this was a stab at some kind of subtle, cheap shot, anti US statement about use of the A bomb in WWII, keep in mind there are a lot of us out here with an honest perspective, in historical context, of that event who consider your view as nothing more than feel good psuedo intellectual horsepucky.

Just thought this would be of interest to share.
by meatloaf inwhy have such a large family?
when we are out together we get questions like is this a school group?, are they all yours?, are you catholic or mormon?, dont you know what causes this?
these questions give us many opportunities to share with others the hope that is in us, that children are a gift from god.

What a beautiful family! We only had five but enjoyed them all!

free2b. Yes, Israel has nukes. But your implying that they would use them if they were losing a conventional war. (The mistake their enemies made in the 6 day war is that they were not a cohesive, functioning coalition and their military leaders were a bunch of cronies with no real military experience. Nothing's changed. That's why they resort to terrorism). Israel showed great restraint in the Gulf war when Saddam was lobbing huge missiles into their country, any one of which could have contained nerve gas. They stayed completely out of that conflict because the US didn't want to lose Saudi cooperation to clean it up themselves. I see the real worry as N. Korea, Iran and Pakistan. If they even twitch like they are going to use a nuke their countries will be turned into a puddle of glass, innocents and all.
