I'm glad your parents aren't shunning you. From your avatar I see you are over 92 yrs. old. Your parents must be wonderful people.
did my mother move to florida without so much as a phone call or a letter letting me know?
i found out from my ''worldly'' aunt, 4 months after she had already left.
she's back in town for the week.

One thing I don't believe has been mentioned is the power given the individuals doing the shunning.
I personally know of families (like mine) with petty differences and rivalries who have seized on a disfellowshipping an opportunity to settle old scores with family members who get DF'd. They go way BEYOND what the WT describes as shunning. They decide they are now free from all bounds of common decency in dealing with that sibling (or whatever) who they never liked anyway. Example: When you're JW mother/father passes away you conspire with the rest of the family JW's to NOT inform your DF'd brother or (?) in another city what has happened. Let them find out months later by accident or maybe when they call you in panic asking why they haven't been able to reach their elderly parent on the phone. "That's because he/she died last May!"..Click. I'm talkin' some MEAN SHIT here folks. But THEY are in good standing and you are the stuff on the bottom of their shoe.
would you approve of your significant other going (and enjoying) a strip club?.
as an aside, do you know of any active dubs who go to strip clubs?.
i know of and has seen several enjoying the festivities.
In this state they are very liberal with the stripping laws. It's totally nude and the clubs are on every corner like McDonalds.
I asked my wife of 41 yrs. if she would mind if I went into one and had a beer.
She said "Hell yes, I'd mind" So that was that.
1 peter 3: 14-15-16. read all three verses to frame the context of vs. 15 " ...be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.
hey, i'm no fred franz but this scripture seems pretty easy to understand.
peter starts this letter by reminding everyone of all the fantastic things that this new born faith was promising, the return of christ, redemption for all, etc.

Hey, I'm no Fred Franz but this scripture seems pretty easy to understand. Peter starts this letter by reminding everyone of all the fantastic things that this new born faith was promising, the return of Christ, redemption for all, etc. The above verses make perfect sense...
v14-"A lot of people are going to ridicule you and your strange ideas, they may even persecute you. What should you do?? Don't fret, be calm and unafraid v15-YOU MUST HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING IN YOUR OWN HEART SO YOU CAN LISTEN TO THEIR QUESTIONS AND TRY TO EXPLAIN YOUR BELIEF, ALL IN A SPIRIT OF HUMILITY AND RESPECT. v16- If you have done this to the best of your ability and they still treat you badly, you will shame them by your reasoning in peace and good faith."
Obviously Peter was referring to hostile, adversarial opponents to the faith. People who made no bones about their opposition to the new belief. He was not talking about people who were just asking nice questions during a free home Bible study.
So, isn't it revealing that the WTS doctrines are so weak they have to counsel JWs to NOT EVEN LISTEN to those who question their faith. (I picture a five year old with his hands over his ears while he chants, 'blahblahblahblah'.) And if they write down their questions on a piece of paper and hand it to you then you must not even open it. Tear it up and throw it in the garbage.
Remember 1 Peter 3:15 the next time you answer to door on Saturday AM.
i've gotten into at least one argument at every one i've gone to.
last summer, i started laughing when a sister on the stage told us how "proud" she was that she only had two complete place settings in her house.
if more than one person came to visit she related that she had to wash a cup so that the other one could drink.
My first assembly was at Cedar Point Ohio and I was about 3 mos. old.
When I was 14, I remember one boring afternoon session sitting on those metal folding chairs in a non-air conditioned county fairgrounds building. I was was next to my buddy, Wayne. I don't know who had found it but one of us came across the account of Aholah and Aholibah, the whores, in Ezekiel 23. This chapter could be used as a script for a porn film. (If you've never read it (King James is best) you will be surprised at the explicit sexual content.) We both had out bibles opened and would point out passages to one another and pass notes back and forth. The cool thing was that anyone observing would think we must be really good, theocratic boys to be so engrossed in the bible.
As soon as I was old enough I volunteered for food service, etc. Me and my buddies knew that this was the perfect escape from wearing a tie and sitting through endless hours of talks. We also worked with cute girls and got free food.
jws aren't supposed to breakdown in their emotions for it could be a sign that you put too much emphasis on the temporary.
just focus on the ressurection, for heaven' sake!
don't mourn like the world that does not have hope!
I have attended a lot of JW funerals, a few non-denominational and two or three non-witness religious services.
It was always a disappointment to attend a JW funeral for a close friend or relative. The WTSociety had once prepared a funeral talk outline that everyone seemed to use for years and years. It was like, 5 min.:"blah, blah blah blah, (insert full name and birthdate here) and blah, blah blah (insert spouse and family names here) . And then the transition line "Mary/John, had faith in the coming resurrection of those who were faithful to Jehovah..." and away it went. Any further mention of the individual was dropped for the balance of the talk on WT doctrine. This was the treatment given my 92 year old Grandfather. He had been a witness for 60 years. Present at the service were his children, grandchildren, great and great, great. He had lived an interesting life and was known for his wonderful, whimsical sense of humor. His full name was mispronounced and nothing of a personal nature was ever mentioned. It was right out of the can. It was cold.
i just discovered that my daughter is having a birthday party for me at her new house tomorrow at 7:00 pm.
it is supposed to be a secret but i found out from an e-mail.
it should be fun.
Happy B Day and many more!!
if you had to write down just a few sentances about why you left the truth, what would you say?.......
jambon;.
wholeheartedly embraced it for a few years after love bombing etc then saw widespread hypocrisy.
As has been well put by others, it wasn't "The Truth" that I left. But I understand what you're asking.
Here's my 'few sentences'. I hope I can explain it clearly.
1. 3rd generation JW, high school drop out, married in late teens, elder with four kids at 30, 5 yrs on judicial committees with a 'heavy caseload'! *
2. Due to *circumstances, over a span of about 2 or 3 years in the late 70's, early 80's, "I SAW BEHIND THE CURTAIN" and once I had done this, I could no longer set out front with the audience and enjoy the show.
3. The last stage was a building anger and contempt for an organization I no longer could respect, culminating in my giving them the bird and getting disfellowshiped.
i am unclear on this.
it seems for most religions leave this question up to the parents.
but how do people justify it?
If YHWH (or evolution) decided that mens penises needed a turtle neck sweater who's to say Him/it nay?
Circumcision was started by the old test. writers of 'law'. I think of them as the original Islamic "IMMAMS" of today who have the power to make their followers blow themselves up and riot over cartoons, etc. What fun is it to have a hammer if you don't crack somebody over the head with it occasionally so they don't forget who's the bosshog?
By the way, I am a gentile but my penis is kosher.
my wife got this by email.
it passed through many channels getting to her, literally hundreds of others received it.
it is unreal!subject: fw: daniel advancement of the stone... interesting.
More ironic, I think, than the silly "looking for signs and portents" in the WT illustrations is the fact that the book "Your Will Be Done on Earth" (light green as I remember) was a verse by verse interpretation of the book of Daniel that clearly conjectured (of course it was called The Truth at the time) that Russia, King of the North and the US, King of the South would eventually use their terrible (nuclear)weapons on each other and that the resulting world chaos would segue into Armageddon. I clearly remember how superior all us JW's felt to be "on the inside track" of world events.
Time and real world events of course has led the WTB&TS to have completely abandoned their original teaching. What's new? They are masters at getting out of the corners they have painted themselves into. Like the generation of 1914 fiasco.
