  Sexual or spiritual pleasure?

  i always wondered in my life is it better to gratify sexual excitation or divert it away from its goals of gratification and use it to develop culture or expand awareness (knowledge) in areas of interest?

  or is it too frustrating to do that?

  or is there no value in the belief that denied physical pleasure takes the form of a deeper, more sustained and profitable in the long term spiritual pleasure?

  If you consider the celibacy required of thousands of priests you have a pretty good picture of the sex vs spirituality trade off. Some are spiritualy enriched by the lifestyle but others develop perverse and harmful outlets for their sexual energy.

  the watchtower society plans to sell its brooklyn real estate and move to hit walkhill patterson headquarters in 2010?

  I remember when the Society wanted to purchase the Squibb building. They read a letter to all the congs about how good it would be if they didn't have to borrow money to do the deal. We could send donations earmarked for the Squibb fund. Within a few weeks they bought it with cash on the barrel head. they sent out a letter talking about how Jehovah provides a way to keep the good new of the Kingdom going strong. Can you imagine the money$$$?

  Someone here once said the WTB&TS had assets of over $300 billion?? Can that be right? Anybody have any good idea??

  What's your favourite movie of all time?

  we had a weekend away a couple of weeks ago.

  i took a few classic dvd's along in case the weather turned sour.. so i watched ghost with demi moore, that pottery scene has to be one of my favourite ever..........gives me goosebumps!

  but it's not my favourite movie of all time/ i'm embarrassed to admit it, but ok i will, cause i'm with friends!

  Jehovah's Witness Hall Vandalized

  in aspen, colorado a kingdom hall has been the target of vandals twice recently.

  a hate message was spray painted on the building.

  "vandals strike school, worship hall" at.

  True Story

  Early '80's. There was an intense young man in our cong., late 20's with a wife and two children who, after 3 or 4 years as a Great Crowd JW, started taking the emblems at the memorial. Of course, no one challenged him nor did he say much about it. We began to notice a shift in his personality and he took on a kind of goofy, 'I am all wise" grin. It was shortly after his second memorial as an "annointed" that he went completely, certifiably bonkers. He was arrested after a night of driving all over town throwing molotov cocktails (they didn't do much damage. They were made from beer cans full of gasoline with paper towels stuffed in the top) at churches in our community. Some of the churches were occupied at the time. The local, politically correct newspaper never mentioned his connection with JW's. He ended up in Atascadero State Hospital for the criminally insane.

  I think it was Hugh Hefner who once said "One must deny the body in order to realize true spirituality" That was just before he said "Who gives a shit about spirituality?"

  Franz and a "New" Witness Organization?

  this strikes me as typical "apostate phobia propaganda" - but a "witness" just told me that ray franz started a "new order of jehovah's witnesses" after he was disfellowshipped.. is there any truth to this?

  When BR&CI was formed at a small gathering in Alabama in '83, Ray declined to be a part of the Board of Directors. I clearly recall that we understood why. He did NOT want to give any impression he was forming a "Reformed Jehovah's Witnesses" group. This was when Crises of Conscience had only been out a short time and was taking the XJW's and disillusioned JW's by storm. Ray's humble and kind manner is perfectly reflected in both his books. Don't forget, he had left a comfortable, prestigous life as one of the GB, world travel, etc. Now ('81) he was supporting he and his wife with a very humble menial job. He could have ducked the Brooklyn inquisition if he wanted too. If you knew him you knew why he chose the title of his book.

  Remember, too, Ray was the man behind the only JW publication many of us have ever held onto, "Aid to Bible Understanding".
