My shunning mother called me....accidently

this was such a sad exhange and just shows how unnatural this bogus rule by the wbts is.. i see my moms name on the caller id and i immediately pick up.

(keep in mind we live 2 blocks apart).

my mom says julia?, and i say no mom its me, you must have dialed the wrong number.. mom: oh, i'm sorry, how are you?

I love you, and oh I am planning on a garage sale in a couple of months, if you want to put stuff in let me know. I call you then because thats business.

My first comment is this: I'm so sorry, I can't even imagine what it's like to be shunned by family.

My second comment: Is it by chance possible to start a small business with your mom? Perhaps a small ebay business selling her favorite crafts, hobby products, etc?

I don't think it would take much of a loophole to get your mom back in your life and in doing so it may get her to realize what an utter shame the shunning policy is.

Who cares if the small business didn't make any money or even failed in 6 months. By then, your mom would be accustomed to the contact and not want to give it up.

Excellent article. It's well thought out.

I'm amazed that your father wants you to just let it go. That is the type of person he wants you to be?

You are following the narrow and difficult path that the bible talks about. It will be hard, but in this process I do believe that if you continue presenting yourself in a calm,

and logical manner, then maybe, just maybe you will spark something inside an elder or two that has read your letter and discussed this issue with you.

You may lose a lot in this process, but you will sleep well at night knowing you did the right thing and knowing that you may have helped someone else see the light.

How many hours do your work a week?

just curious.

i work between 50-to 65 hours a week, sometimes 70. in fact i don't of anyone in the company i work for that works less then 48. does anyone here work a "normal" 40 hour week?

does it even exist anymore?.

I have my own business, so I'm working 80 hours a week. It's really getting to me so I'll be shutting down my main business and getting a normal job that will be easier on me.

i was visiting my mom recently in modesto, california and was walking into a walmart (hey!

Yeah, I think this is becoming more common. One of the last congos I attended was Buena Park, CA which was about 3 years ago, had started doing this at the local malls.

There was such a hoopla about it. There were the usual comments about Jehovah showing us a new form of witnessing and that it was very successful. In reality, the only

people that would approach the watchtower stand were very old and bored senior citizens that were more curious than anything else. There was no success ofcourse,, no conversions,

no baptisms. Just a big waste of time,, or maybe the 'brothers' viewed it as an easy way to get their 'time' in.

No Trespassing Signs at KHs?

i drove by a local kingdom hall today and noticed that they had put up 3 large "private property/no trespassing" signs and 2 "this area under security surveillance" signs.

i haven't heard any reports of vandalism or break-ins so i'm curious as to why they would put up signs like that.

why bother going door to door if the general public isn't allowed to enter the kh?

I've seen it at a quite a few kingdumb halls located in large cities, especially the bad neighborhoods. Never saw it at the rural kh's though.

Help ... Any handy men/women out there

my microwave is not heating up food.

it activates and everything seems to work, but it does not heat anything up.

i have taken out the panel underneath to see if anything is leaking or wires hanging out or exposed and nothing.

Gregor is correct.

Microwaves, like other small appliances are not worth the repair bill costs. It's much better to replace it unless it has a factory warranty that is still in effect.

It's the same reason you no longer see TV repair business, VCR repair, lawn mower repair. etc. etc. The labor and parts necessary for the repairs are often times equal to or greater

than the cost of a replacement unit.

Believe it or not, but once in a great while I come across a tv or vcr repair business,, sometimes lawnmower repair too, but there are very few out there, and I'm amazed they are able

to stay in business,, unless maybe it's just a 'front business' for something else.
