I used to have a Hyundai and the experience was great.
Good gas mileage, low cost maintenance, and very dependable.
don't know anything about kia

Did John Denver hate Jehovah's Witnesses?
by free2beme inmy mother once told me a story of how john denver supposedly hated jehovah's witnesses more then life itself.
my legend, these are two examples i heard while in the witnesses .... 1. at a john denver concert, he once asked all jehovah's witnesses in the audience to leave.. 2. johnny carson once asked him if he did this, and when he said he did, johnny carson asked him to leave the show in rehearsal and re-booked someone else.. ... awhile back i started looking on the internet for information on this and could not see any proof of this and wondered if anyone ever heard this before or was it just something that was in our area.
i have a feeling it is something others heard of.

I made a proposition to my dad - the ex-elder
by divejunkie inmy dad is visiting us this month...so we get to talking .
every chance i get i drop a "little" bomb about the wts - nothing big to cause an argument but powerful enough to make him think and not have an answer.
anyway, he is the ultimate "pack rat".

He is going to give me a list of titles and years. I'll let you know what he has.
About encouraging him to read them, I did. But he gave me the line of "it's logical that there are going to be some things that we no longer believe to be accurate, but it's becasue Jehovah's light is provided gradually, blah, blah, blah..." He isn't going to admit aloud anything. I think he doesn't want to read them because he knows that he'll find evidence of the WT bullshit.
To a certain degree, I understand him. It's hard for an individual who has lived most of his life believing vehemently in something to even consider the possibility of all being a load of crap. Especially at the end of his years... -

The reason why I don't get them is that it would drive me insane to have those boxes and boxes of books around the house. Growing up with a "pack rat", I'm the ultimate minimalist.
The real reason behind the suggestion is not so much the money issue, that is what I told him. But the fact that I know that some people are looking for some of these books to find the fiascos some of them have been, the innacuracies, etc. -

Every chance I get I drop a "little" bomb about the WTS - nothing big to cause an argument but powerful enough to make him think and not have an answer.
Anyway, he is the ultimate "pack rat". He won't ever throw anything away. Therefore there is an entire closet in my parents' house exclusively for WT literature. I mean he has EVERYTHING! He has books from the Russell era! He's 70 and has been a witness for 45. So early in his JW career he got some interesting "classics".
We were joking around and I told him that he needed to go to "Pack Rats Anonymous" and ask him: "Do you still have the "book closet"? He says "Of course!" I'm telling him get rid of that stuff, you can have everything on disc, and open some useful space in the house. That is when he mentions the Russell books.
So I go and tell him there are book collectors that would pay good $$ for those. Surprisingly, he seems open to the idea. So I tell him to send me a list of the titles and I'll post them on Ebay. He says he'll do it. We'll see.
But to me it's incredible that he would even consider it!!! I'll let you know what turns out... -

arwen's disassociation letter June 8, 2006
by arwen injune 8, 2006. .
dear .
there are many things that i could say....many true accounts that i could attest to of unjust acts done to people and inexcusable sufferings caused by many in the congregations of jehovah's witness to others, at times by myself as well sadly, but there is nothing anyone can do now to make up for the wrongs that have been done to those that have been hurt....leave it in jehovah's hands that is what i have been told by those in charge., this has always been the answer....so i will do just that knowing that he will repay those who have treated others so badly and that continue to do so.

I don't know if you've done it before, but could you post the UN letter too? I'm very curious.
Congratulations on your courage and determination. -

Are there still things that were witness no-no's that you refrain from?
by AK - Jeff infor me, after decades as a witness there are quite a few i suppose.
this thread was inspired by min's thread about sex and our attitudes now as opposed to when we were witnesses.. one thing that i have never done - and it might seem somewhat trivial to many - i have never, not once, in my entire life uttered the f word.
i always found it to be utterly vulgar - and i still do.

I've never smoked.
In truth, it's not becaue of JW's beliefs - but rather because I find it totally disgusting and stupid.
