good question tr. I have often wondered if i could ever be hypnotized, because it is hard to believe somebody could "talk" me into a sleep. I'd like to try some day.

Hi flowerpetal,
Welcome to the board. My name is d0rkyd00d. It's good to see some actual Jehovah's Witnesses here, because I honestly don't think i see enough here to have a good discussion board. Glad you can join us and bring in some viewpoints from the "other side".
I must agree with Tina on the point that field service is mandatory. Here is my illustration. Say you have a job that you love doing. It really doesn't matter whether you love it or not, you still HAVE to do it in order to get a paycheck. Kinda the same thing. You may LOVE going out in field service, but you still HAVE to do it to remain in good standing. If you suddenly stopped, you would probably receive a shepherding call, which usually is a checkup on the spiritually weak.
I had something else to say that was really good.....hold on...let me think....
Oh yes. I remember now. I really have no qualms with the Jehovah's Witnesses going out in field service except for one simple fact that doesn't follow the Bible at all. When Jesus went door to door, what did he teach about? His father? The answer is yes. When you go door to door, what do you preach about? The watchtower. You may argue that the watchtower is God's word, but it is simply an interpretation of God's word. If accuracy and sticking to the Bible was the REAL concern, then why wouldn't you just study the bible, no watchtower needed? You aren't totally incomptetant, and you don't need a magazine's help to reach the truth using the Bible. You can find it on your own. I remember, i got baptized at the age of 10. How did i know the bible so well at 10? i didn't. i never even read the bible. You don't need to know the bible to be a jehovah's witness. You need to know how the JW's interpret the bible. I mean, You get to keep the green book OPEN during the entire thing, with the answers listed under the questions. LOL. How much bible study is really needed?
Once again, welcome to the board flower, and hope to see you posting more in the future.

Eminem and censorship
by Uni girl inwhen my son came home from the meeting, he told me that they were told not to listen to eminem because (in his words) he's bad.. i can not stomach the kind of censorship that is put upon people...aren't these things a personal choice or at least a parents choice.
by censoring everything they make a child go behind their parents back and close the line of communcation which could result in some real harm.
i listened to eminem with my son and whilst some of the things are very offensive it was quite clear to me that although he was talking in the first person, he was actually expressing what he thought societal problems were,(no one think bob marley actually son the sheriff do they??).

Similar story to yours Casper, and welcome to the board. One circuit overseer told our congregation that we shouldn't say things like, tell Jesus that i love him in our prayers or something like that. I do it all the time. Oh well..

If you ask me, which not many people do[8>], i would rather see parents talk to there kids about it. Kids are going to find out about violence, porn, sex, drugs, and everything else from somewhere, most likely school, tv, or movies. It's the parents' responsibility to make sure their kids UNDERSTAND these things, and make sure they know all aspects of these subjects. If their kids aren't exposed to these things and don't discuss them with their parents, they will certainly make wrong decisions when faced with them. I'd rather my kids know about the stuff and be well informed to make a right decision about them. Of course, i don't have kids, so maybe i'm taking the wrong stance on this.

Hey JanH, i just wanted to say that i really admire your posts and the way you think. Keep them coming.
I'd just like to protest on behalf of Marshall Mathers, a.k.a. eminem. What makes him worse than, say, Edgar Allen Poe? both are tortured souls, expressing themselves in a way they feel is most relieving. For everybody who doesn't know, Mr. Mathers did NOT have a great family life growing up, which can account for many things. Many pornstars didn't have very good childhoods either, which accounts for there behavior. How can you blame Eminem for the way he is after growing up the way he did?

Just a question out of curiosity, no sarcasm involved. What rights do gay people fight for? is it acceptance? Just wondering.

if your teenage years were spent at the bottom of a bong, it doesn't sound like you left THAT great of friends to join the religion. It probably did you some good.

I've always thought of music like movies. Many rappers talk a lot about killing people and the like. Many movies feature people killing each other. In both situations, you know nobody is actually being hurt or killed. So when you censor the music, you can also edit the movies. edit the school's sex ed program. and edit schools, making sure nobody cusses.....
