Last king of the north - Russia

from the 2005 cdrom there are plenty of references to russia being the king of the north.

this starts, as far as i found, at least as early as 1960. what is more difficult to locate are articles that imply that russia is the last kofn.

if anyone has any handy please paste them.

Yes, I've heard various definitions for the new KOTN. Russian Federation, China, Korea, Iraq, Iran, Canada (hehehe), and the current speculation is Islam. I'm not sure how Islam, a religion, fits but perhaps they mean the Islamic countries acting together will form some sort of empire or confederation and become the KOTN. Anyway just a few weeks ago a friend said she thought it was Iran.

Forget all these speculations....the new KOTN is definitely the United States plus allied countries. Between 1991 and 2001(9/11 !!), the KOTN has changed from Soviet Union to USA. Extreme military power and "Patriot Act Laws" gave the USA a structure typical for totalitaristic regimes - such as "kings of the north". Islam is a religion, but no world power in the sense of a "political imperium".

one of the key things i have noticed since leaving the witnesses and interacting with other faiths, is that they often mention the word "miracle!

" in that they will claim that their god had performed some sort of miracle in their life that brought about something amazing.

it is not always christians who say this either, as many of my "pagan" friends and myself have had spirit driven moments that were something that could not be displaced as "chance.

Quantum phenomena like EPR cannot be explained sufficiently by present physics. Do they come from demonic sources too? Ask the GB.

Just how hyped was 1975?

i was raised in the jws, but i'm still young (22) and all my life what i've been told is that the society never really promoted 1975 as the definitive year for the coming of armageddon.

what i was always told is that some overzealous witnesses took certain things out of context and developed a very extreme reaction - ie selling their houses, quitting their jobs, dropping out of school, etc.

Hi all.
I remember a lot of JW`s took out high loans or mortgages before (or in) 1975. They did not believe to have to pay back the money one day. Some brothers never got rid from paying and paying, and from poorness.
The mortgage and loan rates had been very high in those days. Compare those rates between 1970 and 1990 with the rates now in 2006. Its incredible and amazing...

Not absolutely necessary. Source of electricity can be hydropower, nuclear power, wind energy, solar energy and "free energy" (Gibbs energy, chemical reactions, and other, mostly unresearched possibilities).

Is there a God/supreme being/ or what?!

ok, so i was raised luthren, my dad was cathlioc and then i went dub for 5 years and since have been completely turned off religion.

the dub experience combined with world events and my personal ones have pretty much pushed all thoughts of a "almighty" out of my mind.

of course there are times that i think of religion or get into a "2am religion talk" and i wonder wtf is really going on.

See mathematics or logics. Is there a need for a "designer" who had DESIGNED the laws of mathematics or logics ?

I think, that this "infinite regress" is too trivial.

Witness Paranoia, and former Witness Paranoia

when i was a witness, i once had a elder tell me that he was positive the fbi was tracking witness activity.

even saying that he would not fill out anything that stated his religion on official, or even unofficial documents that were not from the society, as he felt this was a tool to track witnesses.

i remember once in a talk, it was mentioned that witnesses are not free from government tracking and that we should expect this.

looking at this chart i can't help but notice that pre-1984 the growth statistics were extremely erratic.

then, all of the sudden in 1984 the growth statistics calmed down and have ever since fallowed a much more stable trend.

it's almost a straight line after 1984.. so what happened?

Easy to grasp. Since 20 years, the CHART rules, and not the chance. They began to manipulate the things, so that the chart always shows small increases. A sort of "TIMING" began... Plainly said: since mid-eighties, the policy of the WTBS is targeting to keep a minimum increase even under worst cases.

How will it be after the WTBTS will have fallen ?

i sometimes imagine that the wt is destroyed (mental masturbation yeah) and all the people left without hope, sanity and joy.

this will be terrible in itself, if the wt falls suddently i fear a mass suicide.i recall myself thinking that id would rather die that not be in "the truth".

it will be a terrible shock for everybody.

The only way I can see the WTS even come close to reviving itself, is that all the crowed about "millions that will never die"---WILL die, and the musty, old, faulty and inaccurate teachings will be forbidden to be talked about and only "new light" will be on the plate.

Not necessary to "forbid"! Why should they forbid any quoting?. Decreasing the numbers of quotes in literature adaptively (yr by yr) is enough, und much more helpful. The JW`s forget more and more, they become old and forgetful (alz..), and finally they die. The next JW-generation does not remember "old light". In contrary, they will shun those who insist on "old light" (if they are living yet..)
