Not sure if you are a full in witnesses or not guy, but let me just say this, if you believe in the desert god JEHOVAH!!!!! and you were hanging out on this site... pretty sure the big guy is gonna smite you like so many ancient Israelites who accidentally touched the ark, or looked at the ark, or did something else silly, maybe they were presumptuous who knows. The point is just by being here wether you agree or not, you are one of us now
Pray to the great desert God YHWH or Jehovah or El... whoever he is today, that he will make your smiting quick and painless and not strike you with hemorrhoids first like the poor philistines!

I'm a father first!
by FatherFirst inhi guys, this is my first post; i thought i should introduce myself.
i was raised and spent most of my life a jw before i was disassociated, because i refused to stop seeing a non witness girl.
i must say their decision to cut me off from my family and friends although initially traumatic ended up being the biggest blessing in disguise of my life.

Awesome post! I especially am on board with you with this statement:
It allowed me to shed the indoctrinated fear of looking at both sides of the argument. After doing my own extensive research I was able to eventually wake up to the inconsistencies, misleadings, misquotations, undue influence, even my own ingrained judging attitude towards anyone who wasn't involved with the organization of my birth, whose policies are alone responsible for destroying families (not the shunned ones personal decisions in life) which we all are entitled to.
I am still a witness, but because I eve expressed a desire to be able to question the organization my entire family has taken it upon themselves to disassociate me. But its so hard to explain to anyone "in" how sad, judgmental and miserable they are in the cult. They think they are on top of the world and you really aren't youre in a prison.
Welcome

Just like the benevolent loving father figure everyone wants to believe he is. *puke* Stories like this from the Bible and the Koran create dangerous ideas and thinking in people. Worshipping someone who would have asshole actions entitles you as a listen, obey and be blessed type to be the same way... or better as voltaire said it:
Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. - Voltaire

Please help me figure out my dreams
by Socrateswannabe inhi everyone, this may be the stupidest post ever.
i am stumped for an answer and would love to hear your opinions, though.
every week or two for the last couple of years, i have a dream--or at least that's what i'm calling it--that consists of me waking up or thinking that i've waked up, and seeing the ceiling of my darkened bedroom filled with algebraic equations.

So I was laying on my bed and I saw on a box a little orange hard cover book. The bible gods word or man's. It has my name in it and the release date when I got it at a convention when I was 10 (1989).
I studied the book probably when I was 14 which led up to my eventual baptism. Out of curiosity I picked it up and flipped through it. Looking at just one chapter I noticed they actually included some great criticism about the OT. still not much. And the answer to the criticism?... "it's speculative and tentative" what the hell! How did I ever buy this crap. Part of me wants to go through this book and respond to each chapter with real damming evidence that isn't subject to "speculation". Their are volumes on info on how the bible is a crock and they devote a few paragraphs in one chapter to one critic of the OT. Idiotic.
Anyone interested in a project like this? I would love the shred this book with evidence not stupidity like they use.

What are the Witnesses Afraid Of ?
by Sour Grapes inif the witnesses have the truth and have been going to meetings for many years and every week they learn how to be effective in the ministry and learn about the bible on sundays and every week have a family worship night, why are they afraid to talk to anyone who doesn't agree with them or question their beliefs?
if they have the truth then nothing can refute it.
the truth is the truth.

It's like I told my wife. God and Jesus continued speaking with Satan. Also Satan for sometime was allowed around the angels. Thomas Doubted. Peter denied. Whole first century congregations had different ideas. The stupid modern day idea of not talking to someone who disagrees from an "in" status to out isn't even in their BS book
Further more. If you say don't talk to critics who once were believers. You have something to hide. Now I imagine a witness rebutted to that would be "eve and satan. She was deceived!" Ok. Then 1. why did god allow the greatest "apostate" to talk to her in the first place. And 2. Why didn't he say don't speak to the talking snake instead of don't eat from the tree? God didn't protect or warn eve about "apostasy". In the end the truth should have nothing to hide. Jw.org has plenty to hide.

Same thing I have always said, the truth should stand on its own whatever it is, it shouldn't be a house of cards that can be threatened by the slightest breeze.

A lie has many variations, the truth none. - African Proverb
