watch this. I don't believe most are concious to it. But unaware. Products of an existing system. Like disfellowshipping. Most jw would never consider it emotional manipulation outright but also not hesitate using it for just that.

do you think this is a conscious ploy?
if it is it would mean that the leaders of my religion (i am still an active jw) set out consciously to control people.

Interesting. Witnesses are great though at practicing things that aren't policy but just loaded language or not even spoken of. Dress and grooming = no beards. I think this is awesome. I just wonder if they will remove it from the book but still be practiced full force at congregation level as it always have. Thanks for the post. Interesting stuff. -

Garden gnome was an illustration to show the sensativity of possibly possessing an idol. Like maybe when I was younger if I wanted to put a poster of a basketball player on my wall. Some jw's would say bad bad bad. Idol worship. When I didn't bow to it. Or really worship. Respecting someone's talent and wanting to emulate their jump shot us not idolatry. But the point is lost. If some did want to bow down to a garden gnomome I sat go for it! Because there is know guy in the sky worrying about it. Do I think idols are silly? Yep! Do I think having one deserves Goss wrath? Nope. And the fact that one minute he is killing people for worshipping him through a golden calf then commanding then to do it through a golden box with angels on it. You be the judge
And yes wife is still in. Using her as an example of what you everyday witness would think.

There is more evidence to support evolution than christ. Volumes! as in your genetic code. And as most religious people you say "turning to atheism". No one turns to atheism, or looks to atheism for answers! It doesn't work that way, but you are so brainwashed by religion its the only way you can understand it.
Atheism is religion like abstinence is a sexual position. Does that help to understand?
No one is turning to it, or looking to it to answer all their questions. Its just a coming to terms with things that are facts and things that are not, that is all! Religion is the answer to the question nobody asked.
If christ knocks on my door tomorrow, and I am 100% sure its him, we can have a chat. Until then he is about as real to me as batman. Context doesn't matter, the NWT and most bibles have had the various languages and story telling massaged into a semi cohesive manner that still contradicts itself. The truth is the over the centuries "the bible" was made up of much larger libraries of books, its been created dude to suit political and national agendas all along.
Talk to me about context of the book of the dead that belonged to the Egyptians, because the oh so wonderful 10 commandments were in it first. Or many of the proverbs also came from Egypt, or how the book of Esther is actually the retelling of a pagan story. Or how most the NT was probably written by paul and others, supposedly 100 years after Jesus was gone. This could go on for days, how about how many different versions there were of the book of Daniel? There were a few, they chose the one I think with the least amount of fantastic stories in it.

According to you.
If I put a false idol in my house, lets say of Buddha, but I am not worshipping it, or bowing down to it, my wife would freak out, the congregation would banish me and so on.
What about putting pictures of angels around my house?
What about good luck charms?
The bottom line is this, pagan and monotheistic practices can't help but be interwoven into the bible. The bible has contradictions. Think about it, why put an image of an angel on it at all??? Why make an image of a snake??? It makes no sense

They'd never make this book today, it tells on them way too much. With all the access we have to independent research, if they put such specific criticisms in a publication now it would open flood gates of TTATT.

Is that how it is treated though? Even today? How many people bow down to a cross?
What about moses and the copper snake? Which was later torn down when they were once again purging pagan worship?
And maybe they weren't bowing down to the ark, but was it not an item of worship???

Its an interesting thing when we talk about context or even interpretation. Our minds adapt to make the reality that exists in our mind (ie; blue dress, white dress). Reality is pieced together in our mind. Colors don't exist except how our brains interpret light reflecting off our world around us and the colors are plugged in, in our mind to make what we see as reality. There are many more examples with speech, hearing, site, and so on that our mind bridges gaps and adapts to give us our reality.
When I read Duet 5:8, 9... I see it saying don't make a carved image *period*. also don't bow down to one. Another person will see them run together. Don't make a carved image to bow down too.
A super intelligent God, would never give us the dribble of the bible that needs to be interpreted and so easily misunderstood because he would know how our minds constantly fill in gaps to give us a reality our mind is already looking for. He would have to know how we work and understand that if you give the world a bible you are going to have millions (hyperbole) different denominations.
