Have we become what we despise so much?

the majority of members who tend to join this forum have been hurt possibly even traumatized sometimes to the point of wanting to end their lives.

upon joining the forum, new members are welcomed with open arms, welcome messages start pouring in, "likes" are freely given, a false sense of security is promoted where a member is free to speak his mind without having to worry about the wt gestapo.

again, similar to how potential converts are welcomed and "love bombed" upon entering a kh for the first time.

I think people are way to sensitive. Let me break down the three things that get people emotional and hot on here.

Religion/God
Politics and political issues
Debating for the sake of debating

let take the first two together,

Religion/god and politics/political issues

Nothing incites more argument and division in people than religion and politics. So to be surprised that people would get worked up and hurt your feelings when discussing these two things is silly. Here is the problem in the context of the JW religion.

As a witness your religious and political opinions were given to you. You could not discuss politics, and there was one correct religion, the one you were in. You aren't there anymore, people can make their own opinions and debate them from a variety of angles.

Now political/world event issues get heated, so what. What is the big deal. I can have a 180 degree different opinion than someone else and still take them out for coffee, agree on many things, laugh etc. GROW UP! Put your big boy pants on.

Religion... many theists feel attacked on here, and I think this comes in varying degrees. Respecting someones religion is not something I subscribe too. I will welcome you, if you were in my neighborhood we could even hang out. Don't expect me to not make fun of your religion. Being embarrassed by the actions of your religion and belief system is a major reason people come to their senses and leave! But if you simply express "I believe in god" I imagine you will be met with questions and challenges, if you say "I believe in god because.." you will be challenged, and the "because" will attract ridicule. The truth should stand to ridicule and scrutiny. And religious ideas do not deserve respect, they aren't people, they are ideas. Many of us left to become atheists, some took a scenic route and tried some other religions, even ones not that different than JWs, and still arrived at atheism. No one is here to convert theists to atheists, most of the time they want to destroy imprisoning ideologies that are suppressing and harming mankind.

Theists think the atheists that were once JW are harsh? Go have a debate with an atheist that came out of any other religion or always has bee. They may disrespect your ideas the same but probably more!

Debating for the sake of debating...

The debate black hole, you will see atheists, agnostic, irreligious folks seemingly turn on each other into a semantic nose dive. These can be fun, they can also get heated, sometimes go nowhere. But I feel these are a great exercise for pushing your own ability to research, and understand. Generally I think this may look ugly and violent, but I do believe less feelings are hurt. It may seem like it, but its just logical exercise. Stop taking it so personal.

lastly, its the internet people, its a discussion board you have chosen to join. It is not your life, and you just can't control everything in this world. Learn to live with the indifference. or go somewhere else, but the internet is not the end all. Someone here can call you names etc... its just someone on the internet at the end of the day, stop giving it so much impact on your life. Ive called people assholes I've been called an asshole, I really don't care because at the end of the day its just a GD discussion board! lol

I'd rather debate, disagree, and sometimes argue with people here who have different views than mine, no matter how frustrating it can be, then be back in the mind control, behavior control, opinion control of a cult. Just my two cents.

Witnesses sold a lie. A lot of lies. The real world can be quite indifferent and unintentionally cruel or kind, not because of god and satan playing chess. People need to find their way through the indifferent reality and find purpose, personality and passion that is all theirs.

New definition of lying

"saying something false to someone who is entitled to know the truth.".

keep in mind the bible is a book of MANY books. it is a bible of books. written over 2000 years with a 600 year break in the middle, with 40 writers, who lived over thousands of years. The oldest thing we have is a COPY of isaiah found in the dead sea scrolls, that is 600 years before christ.

If you are in anyway sincere, you have a lot more research to do about this book and its origins. There are literally libraries of information the JW's ignore.

The first 5 books were a retelling and plagiarism of much earlier foundation myths, the original flood story was recorded LONG before the biblical flood was even timed to take place.

Books like Job are allegories that were never intended to be taken as real stories about real people...

A book like Esther is the retelling of an older pagan story. Do some research on it...

Much of the proverbs and the ten commandments were lifted from earlier Egyptian writing including the book of the dead...

There were three versions of Daniel...

Most of the OT was written far later than thought when it was "found" by the King.

The book of Jude in the NT refers to an apocryphal book (book of enoch).

This just goes on and on the further you dig

The bible was a vast library of "holy" writings and stories before it was the bible that some people slapped together, its not the whole story by far and its total and complete bunk!

Mark you are the poster child for religions like the witnesses. Without the crutch of reward for good and punishment for bad or a book of stone age laws apparently you would be devoid of moral decency.

I chose to be around people (religious atheist or whatever) who are good for the sake of being good and don't need to be told. You are a joke to the thinking people here and you are an embarrassment to your jehovahs witnesses cult/family/friends.

"Last days" is not just a bible theme. But sitting in your cult meetings that's is all you are fed. Even in the bible references to the end in books such as zephenia are not talking about Armageddon even though witness sat they do. No, if you read context and research secular history as a second source you will see they were referring not to some future cataclysmic event. And the practice of "last days" is known as escatology a big word you won't here at the king-dumb-hall. Lots of other religions have been preaching the end waaaaaaaaay before you're beloved witnesses. Even before Christians. Last days is another human manifestation of their fear and mythology I'm afraid. Now you can vomit all over this with upper case letters and nonsensical ranting.

None of us ever read the bible... we just assumed what it said, oh and then we assumed all its origins and contruct too. Most of the time we were worshipping satan, having abortions, starting wars, participating in gay orgies, eating puppies, bowing to molech, we just want to be bad! Then we want to say how wrong the witnesses are even though they are right and we don't want anyone else to know how inspired and accurate this book you speak of, the bible? actually is. You're on to us you rascal!
