Just remember not to blur the lines of wanting to believe something and REALLY believing it. I'd kinda like to believe in aliens, but I don't go around telling people I do, because I can't, I have no proof. That's a profound thing about this icon from the xfiles, notice it says "want to believe". Its ok to search and wonder about things, but belief is very valuable and should be hard to come by. Don't give it away unless its worth it.

Charles Darwin was not an Atheist
by LAWHFol inpersonally i have the same viewpoint of darwin, when he said : " the safest conclusion seems to me to be that the whole subject is beyond the scope of man's intellect".
i'm not trying to convince anyone about the existence or non existence of god.. rather, i encourage everyone to keep seeking.
keep searching for the truth that makes the most sense to them.. darwin is the grand father of evolution, and his findings and life work, did not make of him an atheist.

My response to my "In" family when interrogated about "what I believe". It used to make me anxious because i want to tell the truth about what I don't believe in, but not give them ammo to spew witness rhetoric at me. So now when asked my response is simple.
I believe what I know to be true.

That's what its all about. The ability to say "I don't know" and keep searching. That's what leads us to understanding, and away from superstition.

"If I wasn't born a JW, I would never have become one."
by OneEyedJoe ini've seen it mentioned by a few on the forum that at some point there was a realization that had they not been born a jw, they never would've converted no matter how many times the jws tried to study with them.
this was my experience too, and i'm wondering how universal it is for those that were born-in but eventually left.
i think i started having this thought (more specifically that if i were not born a jw, i would surely have become an atheist by now) in my late teens.

You I always felt guilty about having to chance to survive Armageddon, as I knew I would never have converted if not born in.
Jwfacts this us exactly explains feeling I went through as well. I alway felt I was sneaking by. Then I would think the big aj must know this and I'll die anyway. Hell of a way to grow up.

Evolution a Fact - Agreed but So What?
by LAWHFol inin many debates between believers and non believers (nb), the nb uses evolution as some sort of proof to support the non existence of god.. i agree that evolution is a fact, however i feel that evolution is proof of some sort of benevolent original cause.. if i were to create an a.i.
, i would program into it the ability to self-refactor and evolve.. i would also randomly inject viruses into the program (evil) where the a.i.
would be forced to stretch its current capabilities & modify it's operating functions in order to get through the random virus, and continue living.. with a steady flow of different viruses, the a.i.

Doesn't seem that way to me. Only presenting on the evolution discussion. The fact that those speaking on evolution tend to also be atheists doesn't mean they are attacking your god when laying out evolution facts.
As this is what you think you hear sounds like your own rationality is knocking at the door asking for you to let it in.

Satanic Temple’s Seven Tenets - Makes 10 Commandments Sound Facile
by cofty inthe so-called 10 commandments are a post-biblical construct.... there is an elohist list at exodus 20 and a yahwist one at exodus 34 that contains such gems as "you shall not cook a kid in its mother’s milk.".
any intelligent adult could create a more useful list of ethical precepts before the end of a coffee break.. it is interesting to compare the satanic temple's seven tenets.
i think you might agree that it makes yahweh's rules look like they were written by a bronze age power-hungry, misogynistic priest.

Drugs....why?
by Tigger inim new here, so go easy with me!
just wanted to know if any one has any idea's or personal experience in regard to drug and alcohol abuse in former jw's.
all the one's i know have just lost the plot when it comes drugs and alcohol, especially drug use.

In my personal experience drugs would only be recreational, and alcohol I love to drink and enjoy far more as and EXJW but don't get drunk or overdo it like I did as a witness.
When I have voices in my head, I eat... thats my emotion crutch lol

For me, I think it depends on whether or not I was born into a religious household. Like if I were born Baptist and really believed, I might listen to the JW's when the came knocking and perhaps would have converted.
Very true statement, its hard to say (because of the butterfly effect) what path your life would have taken in any other situation.
Still this was a huge light bulb moment for me waking up when I realized that if witnesses came to my door, I'd slam it in their face. And if felt amazing to say that to my wife, a relief in fact "if I wasn't a witness and they came to my door, I'd never so much as speak to them, so why am I witness now???" it was a big moment of clarity.
For me even before I woke up fully I began to have a deep resentment for the damage religion obviously cause mankind (something the witnesses even acknowledge). But!! and that's a big but... I happened to be born into the one true religion that had the answer to the problems cause by every other religion that was under satan's control. Once that cult vale started lifting, the witnesses were becoming more and more just another religion, which is what they are.
So I really believe I would not have been a religious person, not saying I wouldn't have any spiritual, metaphysics type ideals or curiosities, but institutional religion would be repellent to me. Even as an in witness I found the bible repellent! I just assumed I had weak faith.

A sincere message to those from the organisation monitoring my posts....
by stuckinarut2 inso, i know there are some from my congregation or from bethel who monitor my posts..... maybe you're looking for something to catch me out?.
just a question: rather than trying to find fault with me, have you stopped and looked into the issues or facts about the organisation that caused me to come to a place like this forum??.
facts are there for anyone to find nowadays....one just has to be willing to pull their head out of the sand.....

I remember years ago, before i woke up hearing an elder friend of mine saying word for word "this particular change has the apostates buzzing on the internet" at that time I knew he visited apostate sites, and at this point in my life I can imagine he frequented this one and probably still does.
