Know one likes to feel embarrassed. JWs keep members working away because they are so embarrassed to feel weak or doubtful or like they are "bad". It can work the other way too though. I started to feel embarrassed by the things I niavely accepted as a jw. Believing in Noah's flood became too embarrassing to admit to believing when I know for a fact its about as real as star wars. So it's good to throw these things out there. Once people start to breakthrough the fear emotion and dig you can learn to think for yourself again. -

Yep. You were taking them into the danger zone, rational thought.
That blank stare was their minds slamming on the brakes and going into reverse. Trying to get back to the purely emotional way of thinking.

OKAY, GAME OVER! The number one reason the New Testament amounts to bunk
by Terry infor me, the dead giveaway is this.
jesus wrote nothing.. stop and think about that.. if jesus were the authentic messiah, his ministry would not simply be local.. his instructions, his mission, the details of his teachings would be too precious to risk leaving it in the hands of "men unlettered (illiterate) and ordinary (blue-collar yokels).".
jesus, were he the one and only hope of mankind, would be absolutely certain to write down with great simplicity and specificity the exact owner's manual necessary to rescue mankind.. never happened!.

Advice needed
by Peony incan someone tell me the scriptural basis (according to jw's) for shunning disassociated ones.
only asking because i don't remember (probably wasn't that interested) i'm sure the shunning in the scriptures was just applied to disfellowshipped.
i've only been out 3 years but i seem to have forgotten any scriptures or reasoning!

I suggest checking out the insight book, in a nutshell its basically "well big J's people would have stoned you to death, so this is a nice gift from the big guy that we only emotionally torture you" . "if we could we'd still stone you but he says no for now" -

Making you feel afraid and alone is (when you have a doubt or a concern) is a very powerful tool that is only real in your mind. To empower yourself, you need to see that you can speak with critics of ANYTHING, agree or disagree, and form your own conclusions. Its a power that's been taken away from many of us, and having a safe forum to open that door will help tremendously.
Its also a great place to throw down on controversial issues if you can take the heat lol.

It is 5am and I still can't sleep. Contemplating life, doing research on religion, world history, science...
by Stepford Wife inmy husband is still asleep but he will get up in about an hour for work so i'm going to quickly tell you my inconclusive conclusion.
i don't know if i can believe in god anymore.
i have come to the simple conclusion that he is either dead or evil but he is definitely not loving.

I never slept better than when I came to terms with disbelief in God. Seeing the universe as an indifferent place (which used to seem like a terrifying thought) has been the most liberating.
I heard Imagine by John Lennon on the radio the other day, that song has a whole new meaning to me.
