The fruits of religion

i just had a thought.
the government should do what they did with the tobacco industry and prescription drug industry and force the watchtower corporation (also mormons and scientologists, etc) to print warnings on its misleading literature and pamphlets.
they can have all their paradise panda petting, fruit eating, khaki pleated pants wearing bullshit propaganda on the front.
Warning: Joining cults is harmful to your mental and social health. It can lead to: shunning, depression, loss of life, loss of friends, loss of family, uncontrollable fear, rampant guilt, shame, protection of pedophiles. Consult a mental health professional before trying this cult.
Maybe that would be better lol

WARNING: This group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leaders and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law. Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished. Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s). The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel (for example, members must get permission to date, change jobs, marry—or leaders prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, whether or not to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth). The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members (for example, the leader is considered the Messiah, a special being, an avatar—or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity). The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society. The leaders are not accountable to any authorities (unlike, for example, teachers, military commanders or ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream religious denominations). The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members' participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group (for example, lying to family or friends, or collecting money for bogus charities). The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt in order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion. Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group. The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members. The group is preoccupied with making money. Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities. Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members. The most loyal members feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave (or even consider leaving) the group. Join at your own risk.
our family and friends blame us for the fact that they shun us.
imagine an abusive husband who threatened his wife that if she leaves him he will hunt her down and kill her.
eventually she finds the courage to leave and he carries out his threat.
i believe all our worst nightmare are believing money will make our life's complete.
i am not talking about money providing life's comforts, but i am mortified that contentment and happiness always requires " more money"..ummm i need a window cleaner, a flashy car and a 50inch t.v screen to be happy.
money...well in my opinion we need money integrity to be happy, but it seems such a waste of life to search for the making of money more than ....well what i mean "hey" most of us have more money than most, and would the making or having more money really make you happier?.
Happiness works like this.
It is something internal. You should be able to know yourself, be yourself, and be grateful and appreciative. This has nothing to do with people or things. its good to know your passions and purpose. Purpose is not necessarily some higher calling, but knowing what you like, what you are good at, and pursuing it.
Now money. Money, like people can enhance your happiness if you have the first part I mentioned above taken care of. There are a lot of miserable people pursuing money, but they have no passion and purpose. Lottery winners that think money will answer all their problems are suddenly filthy rich and buy a bunch of crap and realize its not making them happy, they have no purpose or passion. When people look to another person to make them happy, or money, its short lived.
In my mind its very simple to understand, sometimes harder to execute, but that is the reality. You have to learn how to be happy rich or poor. You have to have purpose in your life. I personally know filthy rich people on both sides, happy and not happy. Money has nothing to do it, its more what you expect of the money. If you expect it to make you happy that aint gonna happen.
This is very enlightening, give it a watch.

one thing i like to do to test a theory is to take things to extremes or to their logical conclusion to see if the premises still hold.
very often, a claim that seems to make sense at a superficial level falls apart when you start to stretch it a little.. so let's play a game.. suppose the 2nd amendment is valid, that some "well regulated militia" really is necessary to hold the government to account.. obviously when this was drafted the government had access to the weapons of it's day which would be muskets!
so muskets all round.
And cops are trained to shoot.
That's why it always makes me laugh yo hear people say (when a cop shoots someone) "can't they just shoot the weapon out of their hand? Or shoot their leg?"
People have no idea

Personally if I was being charged by a wild Boar or Cougar, I would rather have a shot gun than pistol
That is a true statemen . i agree. This fellow I speak of was tracking a deer in a field he had a hunting rifle in his hands. He just happened to turn around to see a rooster tail of dust coming at him. Threw the rifle grabbed his semi auto glock, emptied it on the mountain lion.
But you are correct that in a dynamic combatative situation its hard to hit anything with a pistol. Out of all the bullets fired by cops only 16% hit target. Movies make it seem so easy. Its not.

I ran a bunch of brown bears with nothing more than a small flashlight. Bears are big chickens unless their kids are involved. (I was slightly intoxicated )
Cougar or mountain lion that's a different situation. I know personally at least one person who had to put one down charging him with his handgun.

I want to protect myself and my family and everyone from the nitwits too, laws need to be changed, but I am not delusional enough to think that a ban is going to stop the real big bad guys. I know it wont actually.
next solution?

Gun ownership in america is a demand
Someone is going to meet it
Happens everyday
Whether its "Gun industry" or "Black Market"
My problem with basically everything you say Fink is it is oversimplified and is not a real solution.
You ban guns. You have stopped a fair amount of foolish people from owning guns and potentially misusing them. Ok.
Your gang bangers and mass shooters ARE STILL GOING TO GET GUNS. Might it be harder? maybe harder for someone like you, but a criminal will always find away, its the same with selling sex, selling drugs and selling guns. Its as simple as knowing where to look and having money. So there are problems that will be solved by banning guns and saying you shouldn't have this one, and you shouldn't have that one, and this one is too deadly, and on and on... minor problems. It doesn't change the path of the criminal. It doesn't make guns not exist. The deranged person is going to find a deadly weapon and use it. Wether its a banned gun or van full of fertilizer. You really have not solved the problem you keep referring to.
You are going to stop some nitwit from shooting himself in the foot, or from their kid shooting them from the backseat, you may stop some marginal negligent idiots. You are not stopping the big fish.
