Has your name or reputation been maligned by the Witness gossip-mill?
by stuckinarut2 inas we all know, witnesses routinely share in gossiping, slandering or maligning the name and reputation of those who are "spiritually weak" or ones who "fade" or "stop associating".. they feel it is ok to speak badly of such ones who "have left jehovah's organization".. of course, some of the worst perpetrators of this are elders and their wives, who insidiously plant negative stories in the minds of all they interact with in the congregation.
they may never have actual facts, but since when do facts matter to witnesses?
however through such conduct they manage to separate people from one another, or cause rifts amongst former friends.. this sort of conduct is plainly inappropriate.. but what scriptures could be used if the opportunity arose to confront such ones about the way they have behaved?.

One thing I forgot that was very important if the treatment by my family started it, this was what ended it.
For my wife, seeing Geoffery Jackson get schooled on the bible by a "worldly lawyer" may have been the absolute last straw for her. She cried when she saw that.

Wonderful! What were the major influencing factors. Could be of help to others.
- When I woke up we fought horribly, but once my family turned on me it started then. She say the "unchristian-like" actions
- Just trying to be a loving husband and friend through it all, and still being supportive helped I think
- I would not attack "The Truth", rather do exercises in critical thinking
- I would watch things like "The Path", several cult documentaries on Netflix, often I think they would make her uncomfortable and she would seem uninterested, but actually was curious
- Hearing a first-hand experience from a sister in the hall about the elders discouraging reporting to the police
- Then she began to acknowledge the child abuse news stories
- then Leah Remini's series really helped tremendously, then she gave herself full license to research critics of Watchtower including reading COC. I am sure there was other things, but these are highlights that come to mind.
Did the stupidity of the loyalty assembly have anything to do with it
We didn't go, but recently I showed her Lloyd's summary on YouTube
Anyone can wake up and I think a lot of witnesses are secretly losing faith in the Watchtower, but the cult model is the glue that keeps it together. People need help in finding their humanity, seeing me, someone she views daily as a good person, being demonized in such a hateful way because of my personal belief was the beginning of the end. it still took some time, but like I tell others, there is nothing you can show someone about this organization that will wake them up, they first have to give themselves the permission to look at it like what if its not the one true religion, then everything will come together.

Rank & File Reaction to Leah Remini Series
by freemindfade inwife and i have watched the whole series and just finished episode 7 last night.
personally, i am seeing a great deal more subtle and day to day similarities to watchtower than the obvious ones i already knew existed, ie shunning.
very eye opening and heartbreaking, even more so than going clear in my mind.

but for every person who has appeared on the show, it is the single most damaging aspect of the cult.
Yep, for many JW/Scientology-similarity apologists the fact that Miscavige actually physically hit people makes Scientology much worse. To that I would say if you asked all those people he hit which were more painful and left worse scars I have no doubt they would all say the physical pain and humiliation of the physical altercation was nothing compared to the deep emotional and psychological pain of being demonised as a criminal and shunned by all your loved ones.

To me, the most powerful similarities are the subtle ones. Like members are generally well intentioned and want the best for mankind, and feel it's up to them and their group. That there are some good things gained by being in (the cult). Especially early on. It's the way they keep themselves in that makes the biggest case. Often the impression of a cult member is a suicidal anti-social zombie, but Leah has shown that many like herself were sincere, not looking to perpetuate the negative aspects of cult life. I think this makes it more palatable as similar.

Has anyone experienced any first-hand reaction from active ("in") witnesses who are watching or aware of the series? Do they deny similarities? Do they acknowledge but deflect that it changes anything about "The Truth"? Or do they become Scientology apologists in order to avoid CD? What have you seen or heard? I am very curious.

A Believer, using your randomly googled link strategy try to explain to me how the Sumerian story of the same flood (footnote/spoiler, bible plagiarized the flood story from the Epic of Gilgamesh) was recorded before what would be the actual date of the biblical flood?
let me guess... historians are wrong?
