just curious if anyone else has observed a more willingness by witnesses they know to openly discuss politics (out of the context of the "truth")?
i have noticed it within my own microcosms of jws i know.. have you observed this?.
i am sure with this last years political climate it's hard for anyone to resist chiming in.
I saw one JW I know posting regularly in political discussion, and only in the context, not about how jehalapeno will soon fix it all.
Also, my mom will discuss politics quite extensively without bringing in "the truth"
I have seems some that have sort of approached it humorously, or in person actually given strong opinions.
Just a few observations. I think many do have opinions but normally keep them down

in his book "the righteous mind" jonathan haidt proposes that religion served - and continues to serve an important role in bringing about cohesion within non-kin groups.. to put it very briefly haidt advocates a form of group selection but only insofar as it applies to humans.
our unique brains have made it possible for us to cooperate in groups in ways that are impossible for all non-human species.
despite their intelligence you will never see two chimps helping each other to carry the same log or one chimp pulling down a branch while the other removes the fruit.. his description is that humans are 90% chimp and 10% bee.
Religion is a social technology it served a greater purpose in our distant past. The technology still works today... not sure we need it now though.
I would love to hear more about this, I have always been of the mind that communities thrived more because of cooperation, and oxytocin was out community hormone (hive), but religion was a non-oxytocin systematic way of tapping into the strength of the group.

bohm, is it all untrue?
there is a lot of talk about the usa's new president, mr trump.
he seems to be like what they say about marmite, people either love him or hate him.
is there any middle ground?.
Free - Self fulfilling prophecy sort of thing?
If I can say something pro trump, that I actually heard from someone very liberal, he is very good at branding. This is why I don't by into most the outrage of the MSM, they are keeping him and everything (good and bad) top headline, and you think he doesn't know this? Come on.

Trump trolls the media, media takes the bait, everyone watches the show

It's not really either people "love him or hate him", there is a large center that is not pro trump. But, they are also not fanatical about hating him beyond logic. The result is they are deemed "trump supporters" by an element in the left for not HATING him enough. So that is a misconception perpetrated by this outraged noisy group. They are beyond logic. For instance, Steven Colbert is edging out Fallon in ratings, why? Colbert is taking a harder line on Trump. Another thing I find
So that is a misconception perpetrated by this outraged noisy element that is mad beyond logic. For instance, Steven Colbert is edging out Fallon in ratings, why? Colbert is taking a harder line on Trump. Another thing I find hilarious, George W. Bush has taken a hard line against Trump, the regressives are now lauding him as the greatest. This to me shows how far beyond reason people are.
The truth is there are a lot of centered folks, many liberal, who just choose not to act like the sky is falling everytime Trump farts or tweets. For this you are labeled a trump supporter.
1. Why do you think there is so much talk about him on social media/forums/news and other places?
It gets clicks and views, simple as that.
2. Have previous presidents caused such talk in the social media/forums/news and other places?
Nope, they weren't nearly the spectacle and social media isn't what it is today
3. Does all the banter irritate you?
A lot. People need to chill the f-ck out
