After World War II drew to a close in the mid-20th century, a new conflict began. Known as the Cold War, this battle pitted the world’s two great powers–the democratic, capitalist United States and the communist Soviet Union–against each other. Beginning in the late 1950s, space would become another dramatic arena for this competition, as each side sought to prove the superiority of its technology, its military firepower and–by extension–its political-economic system....
By landing on the moon, the United States effectively “won” the space race that had begun with Sputnik’s launch in 1957. For their part, the Soviets made four failed attempts to launch a lunar landing craft between 1969 and 1972, including a spectacular launch-pad explosion in July 1969. From beginning to end, the American public’s attention was captivated by the space race, and the various developments by the Soviet and U.S. space programs were heavily covered in the national media. This frenzy of interest was further encouraged by the new medium of television. Astronauts came to be seen as the ultimate American heroes, and earth-bound men and women seemed to enjoy living vicariously through them. Soviets, in turn, were pictured as the ultimate villains, with their massive, relentless efforts to surpass America and prove the power of the communist system.
With the conclusion of the space race, U.S. government interest in lunar missions waned after the early 1970s. In 1975, the joint Apollo-Soyuz mission sent three U.S. astronauts into space aboard an Apollo spacecraft that docked in orbit with a Soviet-made Soyuz vehicle. When the commanders of the two crafts officially greeted each other, their “handshake in space” served to symbolize the gradual improvement of U.S.-Soviet relations in the late Cold War-era.

Flying the Plane By Committee
by freemindfade in"in god's view, men and women are equal.
but even people who fly airplanes realize you can't fly an airplanes by committee there has to be a pilot and a co-pilot.

I agree, just trying to show how absurd their thinking is.
like if they really believe this why is their a 7 person committee running the org?

It was a distraction from everything, it was the high point of a tumultuous decade. Even though I was not there, I think it would be naive to say it didn't do some reuniting and morale boosting for 'Merica. -

Ok... interesting... so why are they flying the jw.borg machine by committee? Why not just make TM3 the pilot? Or Lett? so they can fly it into the side of a mountain.

In the moon landing there were huge implications, this is really where conspiracy begins, usually someone has a hinky feeling about the driving force behind something and they say something stinks. Especially those who have ever been involved in anything where you would do anything to win. Or anything to see your agenda through.
this is an interesting read for anyone who has the time

But again just because someone has a bad feeling, or the because science gets in bed with politics/business doesn't mean it was all a lie. I moon landing was a big deal, thats why I jokingly call it the technological jesus. From a PR standpoint, all these things we talk about as conspiracy theories, in the moment little lies may have happened, of facts got fudged or who knows what, its not an indication of a bigger conspiracy, probably just over zeal.

NU LIGHT JWs not only spokespersons for GAWD so says Governing Body Jackson

If I showed this to my wife she would say "he's right," and start to do mental gymnastics as to how JW's don't believe that.
When the GB's ass is on the line they aren't
When you want to leave the org they are
When a jw is knocking on your door they are
and on and on and on, the only time they aren't it seems is to save their own ass.
But I believe any witness that heard him say this would say of course, because so much of the bible and this wacky religion is a paradox, whatever suits the situation thats what they go with.

Geoffrey Jackson: "That would be presumptuous of us"...
by Calebs Airplane inwithin the first few minutes, mr. stewart asked geoffrey jackson if the members of the governing body consider themselves to be god's spokesperson on earth.. his response: "that would be presumptuous of us" (implying that they don't consider themselves to be god's sole channel of communication).. to me, that was the worst lie of about 26 lies he's told during this hearing.
however, mr. stewart missed an opportunity to call out mr. jackson on this bold-faced lie.
he should have asked him to explain why the watchtower magazine teaches otherwise.

Our progress technologically is important. I have to agree with Viv it's not a waste of money.
The problem is that often for the great minds to get the backing to undertake monuments things it takes a some alterior motive of those holding the money and power to get it done so it may make progress appear selfishly driven sometimes. But really sometimes you just gotta play along to get what you want. Why do you think Von Braun and so many great German scientist were SS?
The goals of the science and politics sometimes get mired together when really it's just a whorsih relationship. Like religion and politics :)
At least science accomplishes something
