Well I think it's safe to say in the new age of terrorism shootings gun free zones are very vulnerable. I think this must be something contemplated by those who carry out these attacks.

Hey I just had an idea. In order to buy a gun you have to verify your religion. If your Christian or Muslim you don't get one because clearly you suffer from dillusions and mental illness lol.
If you worship the desert god there is a good chance you will shoot someone.

Jonathon is right. You ban drugs you create a giant second market. Supply and demand. The demand won't go away so someone is going to supply. America isn't Australia, I can't tell you all the reasons why, populations size difference i don't know but supply chain won't disappear with making something illegal. It just makes criminals rich. -

Mass shootings are often by high powered automatic weapons,
False. Keep the facts straight please.
Most mass shooting weapon of choice is semi-auto handguns. Automatic weapons are a no no pretty much everywhere and as stated before assault weapons have been rarely used in rampage shootings.
They were present in this one because it was almost certainty a terrorist attack.

Its fair to add that the media's sensationalism ads multiple problems
- Its created legendary fame status to these monsters that is almost always referred to by rampage killers.
- It beats this stuff to death creating a climate of mass fear, then what happens? Media fear mongering = gun sales, guns sales = more guns in America.
These are just 2 of the things I feel the media is guilty of. If it bleeds it leads.

I don't think America accepts it, they ignore it, how?
Step 1. A mass shooting happens
Step 2. Gun nuts put on the gloves and get ready for the inevitable attack on their precious rights
Step 3. The anti-gun nuts put on their gloves
Step 4. everyone starts swinging and talking about guns, for against whatever, while much deeper and disturbing issues go ignored in the dust of a gun debate. Nothing is accomplished because every ones fight response went up
When this happens and the first words out of the presidents mouth make it an issue of an anti gun agenda the bottom falls out of the discussion. Because you have two sides fighting. There is no honest discussion that says there is to much access to firearms AND... there is more to the story that gets dropped.
Can anyone admit that is the truth? Honestly most gun owners and even NRA members are in favor of the same things with regard to strict gun laws (not the NRA itself for some reason). But in the same way that moderate muslim sanitize jihadism gun owners should be honest and open and not sanitize gun crime. And anti gun folks should be realistic. American rampage shootings are not only a gun issue. People respect honesty more, and its seems dishonest to ignore the rest of the problem.

I am still waiting for just some type of solution other than gun control. All the other side comments seem to be made in order to avoid this answer.
I suggest watching some serious documentaries on this type of thing, they never say that gun control is the answer and these are unbiased people in favor of gun control. In mass shooting gun control is part of the problem it is not the problem. If you offer a solution it could include stricter gun regulations, but that is not a solution to make mass shootings go away either.
My first step towards a solution is stop looking at it through such a narrow view. Start there, then if you really want your gun control to have an impact you cannot ignore the individuals who perpetrate these things and what they have in common and what brings them to this point. Suicide + rampage shooting to fame.
I think to say that you do have an answer is short sited. Kind of like the witnesses that put the solutions to problems in the context of "this will fix it". Its a super complex problem and I would not be so arrogant to admit to have the ultimate answer to something so complicated. I just know gun control is small band-aid on a big wound. Its something, but its not going to stop it.
What are there 400 million guns in america? Those aren't gonna disappear for a very very long time and mexico has a steady supply of illegal knock offs coming in daily.

I think what little_Socrates is getting at is not to be armed to act as a vigilante and actively engage a terrorist, but if escape is impossible whether you are armed or not would you choose:
- Lay face down on the ground and wait to be executed? or
- Die on your feet (again with or without a gun, in that case preferably with a gun)
I really don't imagine most people who have gone through the steps to legal carry would be a brazen cowboy running to certain death or putting others at further risk. But I as a gun owner think about the way some in Paris were executed, with no discredit to them, honestly if I'm gonna die, its not gonna be face down on the ground. If there was no way out, and I had a handgun, assault rifles or not, I don't want to make it easy for them. I'm history anyway and there is no way out.
The guy that got the hell out and was armed I would have done the same. I'm not a cop, I'm not a soldier. With no way out though id use whatever I had at my disposal.

Again more semiauto handguns have been used in spree shootings since 1984 than rifles, shotguns, and revolvers put together. and assault rifles are a subset of rifles so its a really small number. Not defending assault rifles per say but know the facts, not that many people are killed with assault rifles. That's media illusion. -

Are we as American's even aware of how big this problem is? Do we just not care? According to this article if we weren't allowed to talk about gun control because of a mass shooting, we would never talk about it. 1,052 mass shootings in the US in the last 1,066 days. That's 4 or more people shot per instance.
It needs to be talked about, but the discussion can't stop at gun control, that is everyone's answer and the reality is the problem of mass/rampage shootings is far more complicated than just gun control.
A better question is why the steep increase in incidents and fatalities? Its not that all of the sudden there is a steep increase in gun ownership. The guns may be easy to access, but really gun access only gets stricter over time while the phenomenon of mass shootings increases every damn day. Lets look at it without any bias. Guns are not causing these people to suddenly lose their minds and copy other psychos. The problem to access to guns is not in itself causing the phenomenon.
