More than half of UK population is non-religious
by bemused inthe british humanist association web-site has reported on the results of the british social attitudes survey, which is a major annual survey, the latest report covering the year 2013:.
https://humanism.org.uk/campaigns/religion-and-belief-some-surveys-and-statistics/the-british-social-attitudes-survey/.
for the first time, those people saying they are not members of any religious group are in the majority in the uk, up by three percentage points from 47.7% to 50.6% in just one year.

If I can ask an honest question. Which part leads to that mad dash to the gun store? The shooting? Or everyone saying ban guns immediately afterwards?
Honest question which is the strongest catalyst?

I feel this is interesting yes they both contain the same rubish no doubt. I really don't think it is as simple as saying they are exactly the same however.
For one thing christians, despite a small band of red state radicals in america (our problem), has become of religion of apathy. Islam is growing, why? the amount of people who subscribe to the idea of jihad against non believers is more than the population of the united states, why? I am not going to say one of two evils is better or worse but consider somethings from an exegesis point of view.
The difference is not just quantitative, but quality. The political violence of the Koran is eternal and universal. Totally open ended. The political violence of the Bible was set particular historical (or faux historical in most of the bibles case) time and place. With the quran the violence remains a constant threat to all non-Islamic cultures, now and into the future.
The bible said things like commit genocide by killing this group or that group, ie midianites, yes awful and hateful. The quran's message of genocide is to infidels, that is very much more open ended, so when they quote their scripture about anyone who kills an innocent man has killed all mankind, what qualifies as innocent to them? If your not Muslim you aren't innocent.
Think about this too, the bible contradicts itself by having some of gods good guys lie to get out of trouble, still the general message in the bible is "lying is a sin". The quran through Kitman & Taqiya actually make lying a doctrine and good! These subtleties in teaching must have some affect on the adherent no? Am I wrong?
The nature of the desert god they all worship makes it all bad. But they are not literally the same book.

Very Sad ... Another Terrorist Attack here in the USA ... and not enough guns to defend us
by RubaDub inif only there were more people with guns perhaps some lives would have been saved.. it's a sad state of affairs here in the us when enough people aren't armed when there is an attack.. if someone simply had a gun or was wearing a suicide vest to take the perpetrators out, other lives could have been saved.. rub a dub .

Considering the most nationalistic and xenophobic country on this planet is the USofA, that's a bit ironic, if it's true.
So what is your point Talesin? Because you feel because there are some people in America afraid of outsiders that gives you the right to act that way towards the whole country? Seems hypocritical. How do you quantify that America is the most nationalistic xenophobic country? Because of media portrayal of the right wing and deep south patriots?
And my whole point is someone like Neil degass Tyson posted facts and figures for gun violence on his twitter to get his point across. He didn't make a mockery of an act of terrorism like this post does. I find the Op very insensitive.

The reality is if it even were possible to ban guns altogether in America this will equate to less gun deaths. In the case of terrorism and deranged rampage killers would it relate to less deaths in general? No one could say. There is no guarantee. It could be less deaths the same or more. Why more? Think of two of the most deadly attacks in America Oklahoma City 168 dead rental van and fertilizer, 9/11 2977 dead because of box cutters. Taking guns doesn't remove the nut jobs or their blood lust. Just a tool. Consider Paris as well, all their gun laws did little to stop them from coming over the boarder. If guns were banned in California does anyone realize how close San Bernardino is to mexico? They could have got them either way. Gun availability in America which is already in the 100's of thousands is an open Pandora's box. California is one of the leaders in America for gun restrictions. Contray to what was said here they don't come in cereal boxes. Please respect those who died at the hand of terrorists. Paris is attacked and everyone changes their pictures to French flags. America is attacked and everyone starts complaining about the country attacked. Get the priorities straight. -

Lot of xenophobic attitudes towards Americans on this board. Saying every American is a gun nut makes you some kind of anti-gun hero, say Islam is a religion of violence and you are a racist. I get the sarcasm but I think it's distasteful and disrespectful to those who died. They were celebrating one moment and murdered the next. It's a tragedy. -

I wish they'd stop with this "self radicalized" nonsense.
I find this very frustrating as well, even Obama is trying to tout it as "mixed motive". I think Paris was considered terrorism pretty damn quick. This however is taking painstaking days to get there and still everyone seems to be holding their breath it will somehow just be a disgruntled worker.
Its an interesting point, when does it become 'Terrorism"? If they were not funded and deployed directly by a group like ISIS does that somehow absolve it from being terrorism? I don't think so. Whatever the religion or political cause, once it is a large network involving a single ideology the act is terrorism in my book.
