A troubling visit with a satisfying end.
by Bonsai inso, i've been out for 2 years now.
just picked up and walked away from the wacky religion that tried to control every part of my life through fear and guilt.
i've been wondering as the months go by what would happen when an elder finally showed up at my door and pressed the issue as to why i ceased all activity and then tried to reactivate me.

Loose ends undermine their power
You're all in? Great
You're all out? Great
Limbo? This leaves loose ends, someone has walked away without consequences, we can't have them appearing stable and happy this way, lets pressure them!!
This is partly why I choose the fade, I feel its a constant kick in their balls, and when they act this way it is slowly opening my wife's eyes to the high pressure religion this is.

History of DF - Question
by thedepressedsoul infrom reading crisis of a conscience and members here, i have gathered that df was originally a means to cleanse bethel and stop apostates from spreading their own thinking inside the organization.
.
when did it also branch over to sinners that were struggling with an issue that relapsed on multiple occasions?

The disfellowshipping practice did not become official policy of Jehovah’s Witnesses until the early 1950's. However, in 1947, just a few short years before the introduction of this policy, there was an article published in the Awake! magazine that criticized the Catholic Church for their practice of excommunication.
In the early 1980's, in an effort to squash any form of dissent, the policy of extreme shunning of disfellowshipped members of the congregation was extended to include those who have disassociated themselves of their own accord from Jehovah’s Witnesses. Now, they were to be shunned, as well.
Since at least the early 1980's there exists no civil way to leave the organization. -

It can be a bumpy ride, just listen to those with experience, take a deep breath and make educated choices as you go forward and there is glorious freedom on the other side! Welcome! -

I think there is going to be a domino effect
- more and more people waking up
- WT publishes more articles/talks about loyalty, information control etc
- more people get suspicious and uncomfortable
- more people wake up

Proclaimers Book claims anyone can leave the org
by Sanchy inwas going through proclaimers book and found this little nugget on page 232. there is so much wrong with this paragraph that my head almost exploded when i read it.. however, i was thinking, perhaps those like me that are trying to fade away without "trouble", can use this in the case that an elder should start questioning with intent of escalating matters.

They don't equate disfellowshipping with infringing on your freedom to leave.
That makes sense, but in the cult mind control you can make anything mean what you want.
Sure you got disfellowshipped...
It's f-cked up, but that is how they all think

Any thought behind your " Avatar"
by The Rebel ini think that's the correct phrase?
anyway when i first came here, that little picture that "the rebel" hides behind, was a self portrait of a very sad man, who simply had too much knowledge.
now i feel after 7 months here, i should repaint that " avetor" give some happiness to the eyes, and a contented smile to the lips.. in short my " avetor" was a self portrait of a man with too much knowledge.

Are Witnesses really "Bible Students"?
by stuckinarut2 inwe were always told that as witnesses we were "sincere bible students".... carefully examining the scriptures.. yes, we were indeed taught much about the content of the bible, it's history, prophecies etc..... but it was always from one perspective....that of the society.
when the society changed its interpretations, we had to do the same..... so were we really "bible students", or "society students"?.
just a thought.....

They are watchtower students
Witnesses have an eisegesis approach to the bible which makes their understanding an absolute joke.
On the other hand exegesis is an attempt to determine the historical context within which a particular verse exists – the so-called "Sitz im Leben" or life setting.
they ignore everything but what they want to get out of the text, 2+2=5 if you will.
