james, you would find Einstein's famous essay, "Why Socialism?" an interesting read.

How do you keep your hopes up while in this doomed existence?
by sabastious incoming from aguest's thread where she showed us the article that describes a "brain drain" that has been occuring for centuries do to "mutations" i can't help but be a little fed up with how much negativity comes from the land of science.
sure, facts are facts and they do not set out to sound good or bad, but instead of identifying the problems of doom, like our brains are devolving, why not focus on the solutions to those problems?
where are the hopes and dreams that our culture so desperately holds onto which actually provides the drive to progress towards them.

Bible Character Cards on jw.org??
by Scully ini'm not joking.

i'm lmao that these are so similar to hockey cards or baseball cards that my siblings and i used to get in trouble for collecting when we were kids.

We had these when I was a kid, only they were very nicely done (gold edging, in a little box, etc.), which means they were not produced directly by the WTS. They must have been approved by the WTS (or we wouldn't have had them), but not necessarily promoted by them. As I recall there were exactly 100 characters.
If the WTS wants to provide something for children (in return for Sparlock), why not make a quality product, not this cheesy cut-n-fold crap?

My country is sick
by sabastious inthis is a melancholy day for me.
over the past few years i have been studying american politics and have enjoyed learning perspectives from different ideologies.
i personally lean towards conservative values when it comes to creating legislature, however i am socially liberal.

Thank you for the response, ohiocowboy.
While I agree and support your desire for specific rights, and sooner rather than later, I must point out that those are not issues that can or will be addressed at the federal level, and certainly not by the decree of the president. Your argument is at the state level.
However, President Obama has created a legislative environment that makes your goals much more viable in the forseeable future. We all can celebrate that in our lifetimes we have moved gay rights from the closet to the national stage. We have presidents Clinton and Obama to thank for that.
Most gay people are happy about the incredible amount of progress achieved over a relatively short period.....................

He ain't done crap for the Gay demographic.
I repeat, Ohio cowboy, 'cause I am genuinely curious:
Really? What more would you suggest the federal government do on behalf of the gay demographic?

I have been studying American politics
What's presented to me through the TV screen and the internet can be a captivating experience, but it's largely just smoke and mirrors
Keep studying, but not by means of the TV. Books are better - you get a bigger picture, not just sound bites. You sound like someone who has escaped from one bubble into another bubble.

Can longtime posters on JWN be elitist? Kind of like elders in the hall?
by trujw injust wondering.
i feel a little smugness from long time posters.
i got out as a kid 20 years ago and since i am a newbie here it feels like we are shown a little less respect.
