How do you feel about Common Core education?
by nonjwspouse inespecially if you are a teacher, how did you learn about it to begin with?
was there a common core rep doing a slick presentation?.
how do those of you with kids on school feel about, among others, things such as the deemphasis on the great works of literature ?.

Throughout this thread, NJWS, your posts have typically been along these lines:
As I said once before it is an intiativ to take the school controlsaway from the states, and centeraliz it in the federal governemt. Does this not scare you? Who else in history have wanted to centeralize education in order to help control the public?
Your writing is nearly indecipherable. You have used the word "slick" six times in describing Common Core presentations, which indicates a lack of original thinking and a parroting of RW talking points. These are not the expressions of someone with a higher education. And I do not buy the "worn-off letters on your computer" excuse. Horsefeathers. This is beyond the occasional typo.

You clearly are an educated individual.
Perhaps, and I say this with a great deal of objectivity. I had always held those with MBA's in awe - until I worked with one - and she was one of the most ignorant people with whom I've ever had to work. Whenever I needed (the most basic) info from her, in order to do my job, she would say, "I'm confused." And she was. I had to spell it out like I was talking to a child.
To be sure, an "accredited MBA" means you've never had to set foot in a classroom - it's on-line.

Leave it to the states, eh? How do you propose to address the huge regional inequities in education that has lead to?
(The shame of the south and much of the mid-west.)

Did you suffer humiliating childhood experiences as a JW?
by yadda yadda 2 inin john cedar's (jwsurvey.org) latest excellent article on his blog about a us teacher that got reprimanded for trying to force a jw boy to salute the american flag, he relates a similar childhood experience where he was terribly humiliated at school in view of his classmates.. this reminded me of a similar humiliating experience i suffered at school, when i was 11 years old.
during our school's end of year 'prom night' (not actually called that in the country i live) which was in the style of a disco night, my unbalanced jw mother came to pick me up early and stormed right into the hall and grabbed my arm and pulled me out in front of all my friends right in the middle of the dancing.
on the way out she gave the teachers a lecture about the music being far too loud and how unwholesome the whole thing was for children of my age.

Field service in my neighborhood was so painful. Truly traumatic for a young, overly self-conscious child. In 7th grade my worst nightmare was realized - the boy I had a crush on came to the door with his dad. I wanted nothing more than for the earth to swallow me up. Somehow I survived. But, I'll tell you, those experiences did not build character - they tore it down. Because I was required to stand up for principles that I did not understand nor believe in.

My take-away from this thread:
Right-wing fear-mongerers (such as Glenn Beck) do a poor job of preparing their constituents to participate in a fact-based debate.

Announcement: Schools for Couples and Single Brothers replaced by School for 'everyone'
by dropoffyourkeylee ini know this was noted earlier:.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/266186/3/the-big-announcement-this-week#.uoaoe_yo5dg.
but it was officially announced today that the school for couples and the school for single brothers were being combined with the new twist that single sisters would be allowed also.

But single sisters (over 25 yrs old) outnumber, single brothers. what? 8 to 1, I would guess?
Same as in a retirement community. Highly competitive.

Interesting to see your recent activity-
"They shun any one who questions anything and make lists of people
they can talk about and then take pleasure and derive a sense of superiority
from abandoning their life long friends and relatives."
Looks like you've been been victimized. But only with your permission.

I hate being ugly!
by Space Madness ini finally came to the realization that i am ugly.
i'm 28 years old and never had a girlfriend.
women pay me absolutely no attention when i'm in public.

Drugs such as LSD, marijuanna, mushrooms, and x has helped me come to terms with my life.
Really? It now sounds as if complaining that you're ugly is an just an excuse to do drugs. Why not create a life you don't want to escape from?
