Hello all,
This missive is directed mostly at the Texas denizens who frequent this board. I used to live there and since I left many moons ago, have not had decent BBQ. I just booked my flight to Austin for the end of July. I will be in the Austin and San Antonio area then I will be coming up to Joe Pool for the 'fest on Saturday. Before I leave Texas again, I want to go to the best BBQ place I can, and hopefully get some shipped back to Denver on dry ice. I am looking for opinions on where I can find such a place in any one of those 3 areas. I remember Homesteads in Arlington, but I thought I'd just take a pole to make sure I am spending my money and calories optimally
Thank you in advance,
~Brigid

Hey Pole,
I've always wondered, are those hand puppets your holding (and why), or from your collection of stuffed animals? Your avatar is just one of those that I always wonder about when I see it.

not feeling like there life's been affected that negatively by their involvement with jw's?.
i ask because while i do believe being raised a jehovahs witness has probably done me some considerable emotional damage, i still can't imagaine it hurt me anymore (and in a lot of cases i'm sure it did far less damage) than the average non jw upbringing.
i had no debilitating diseases, no broken family, kind and loving parents etc...you get my point though?.
Dear Keepitsane,
Welcome!! I always appreciate a balanced view. It seems to come from some of the younger people. Please just know that everyone has their stories colored by their own perspectives. There have been true horrors committed by JWs while condoned and tacitly encouraged from the society. Please also understand that the "Society" has mellowed out---alot!! If I thought I had it bad growing up in the 70's and 80's, it was probably worse in the 40's and 50's. If you came of age in the 90's, it was probably better than the 70's and 80's.
Anyway, glad you made it through with minimal scar tissue. I do not personally regret my upbringing as a JW, it gave me some good stuff (although probably not in the way that would spin any sort of positive light on the Society), it was very integral to my personal evolution and I like the person I am today--if I had had a fluffy bunny upbringing and good relationship with "God", I'm sure I would not have come as far as I have in my own path.
Love and Light,
~Brigid
wow.. so, you know i'm an active witness, very active.
hah.
and i'm not laughing at y'all, but wow, i can't believe how extensive this is.
How refreshing your experience is one so positive! You add validity to a little theory that I have: That the WTS will drastically change as we all knew it or die out. I believe it will change and evolve, allowing people more freedom of thought, expression, etc. It (while we're using operating systems as analogies) is simply too smart and cunning an "organism" to not change with the evolving human spirit.
You are definitely an example of one who has moved away from the fundamental teachings. Good for you!
Hope you stick around. I like free-spirited, open-minded cheerful souls. As long as they don't keep harping on how gloriously happy they are all the time as if they are a small child whistling past the graveyard, that is.
Enjoy and welcome, welcome, welcome!!
Love and Light,
~Brigid

uh-oh, did someone bring up astrology? A Sag in the house, have we????
*sigh* now ya know, I just gotta jump all over this:
Sagittarius and Love
The primary motivation ruling force for Sagittarius is the "need to understand." For Sagittarius, life is a grand, marvelous adventure to be experienced and lived to it's fullest. With Sagittarius, options and possibilities are endless - and Sagittarius is always headed for the distant broad horizon. In the throes of heartfelt love, Sagittarius will want his or her partner to share in this great adventure called life. One of the biggest mistakes a love partner can make is the attempt to cage Sagittarius in, either physically or emotionally.
Ruled by the planet Jupiter, one need only look to mythology to understand that attempts to cage the free spirit of Sagittarius are fruitless and end up being a big, big, big mistake. Zeus, the Greek equivalent of the Roman god, Jupiter, was the all-powerful, chief Olympian god. Zeus was married to the goddess Hera (Juno to the Romans). Mythology is full of the many, many, many, many sexual escapades of Zeus "planting his seed" with mortal women. His jealous wife Hera, was always just one step behind him. Hera excelled in nagging Zeus and bringing torments down upon the mortal women Zeus had been with.
Sagittarius will often end up unconsciously choosing to marry a practical Hera type (male or female) in order to help Sagittarius keep "one foot on the ground." Unfortunately, Zeus marrying Hera is a double-edged sword and a "Catch 22." It sets up Sagittarius and his or her lover into compulsively playing out the archetypal myth of Zeus and Hera in their day to day lives.
The living out of the Zeus and Hera myth might be done in a lliteral and/or a figurative fashion. Fortunately, most Sagittarians don't feel the need to live out the myth of Zeus and Hera and/or "plant his or her seed" in a literal way. For all of you Heras out there (male and female) - it's important to remember that Sagittarius always needs something to believe in and a distant goal to reach for (realistic or not). Unconsciously playing the archetypal role of jealous Hera, and dashing the hopes and dreams (his or her seeds) of Sagittarius, is not a wise thing for a lover to do. The more Hera plays his or her part by criticizing and restraining (and keeping one of Zeus' feet on the ground), the more discontented your Sagittarius lover will become and the more your Sagittarius lover will need freedom. That, in turn, will cause you (playing the part of Hera) to pull, criticize, and restrain even harder. Can you see the endless cycle you're caught up in?
