  Thw Watchtower Dream

  in watching the recent protests in this country in regards to the issue of illegal/legal immigration, one gets to read the many stories of success from many of these immigrants that came over from south of the border.

  keeping politics aside, one can't but be astounded by the will and desire that many of them have to "make it" here in the usa.

  many of them have realized the "american dream".

  I sometimes think I should just let the karmic accumulations that my mother has built up for herself come due. And I am getting closer to that point. But blood is thicker than water sometimes (damn that linguering Christian guilt!!). I happen to have knowledge that a huge karmic bill is about to come due for her that could involve the authorities and even jail time. Something that even I will probably not be able to bail her out of. It does not originate with me but my sister. I refuse to get in the middle of it. I just wonder how supportive her congregation will be when they hear of her gargantuan need......

  not according to the watchtower!

  this is just another example of how the watchtower deceives members into believing that what "they" expect of jws is actually what the lord expects.

  after a few months of lurking i decided to register.. was raised a dub all my life .

  .got married at 19 (biggg mistake) because as you know "dating is only for marriage" (obviously not for trying to get to know someone better) and was married 11 months after i met my ex-husband.

  i felt a lot of pressure from both families to get married.

  i played a role in a convention drama when i was 14. it was a really poxy modern day drama.

  something about catching my bigger brother puffing on a cigarette lol.

  i had to practice the part for months in a dogey american accents.

  Yes, oddly enough, I had my first acting debut on a part at a CA. I was a youth who was "inwardly" debating on whether or not to move out of my parents' house (I came from, by that time, a single mother's home but this was ACTING! <John Lovitz reference>). I had to soliloquize in a silly manner about the pitfalls of moving out of the loving, spiritually nurturing environment of my witness household

  Another Newbie :)

  it's hard to know where to begin, so i'll just... begin.. i had my first encounter with jw in high school when my now ex-husband moved into our small town.

  (you're doing the math already, aren't ya?

  :) ) after finding out he was a jw, i did a little bit of reading into it, which he discouraged... told me that that stuff is "apostate" (i had no idea what that meant) and that he'd give me stuff to read.

  I too feel your pain. I watch my aging mother have nothing. No savings. No health insurance. No life insurance (I heard her once when I was young give a fine "witness" to an unsuspecting life insurance salesperson about her lack of need for insurance because this system of things would end before I was out of gradeschool--well, I'm now 36). She lives from meager paycheck to meager paycheck. Often, I must send money to simply keep her from starving or getting the electricity cut off.

  The only reason she has a house is because a worldly aunt took pity on her and gave it to her but she lacks even a sufficient salary to keep up repairs and so it is shifting off its foundation, at times, the bathroom is not fully functional.

  I watch sadly as my brother's brilliance is squealched as he chases this pipe dream of the new system. The boy who mastered any mathematics, wrote computer programs, fantasy stories now waits tables for a "living" trying to support his sickly wife and 2 sons (again, sans health insurance).

  I am glad for what it taught me, however--to value myself. Believe it or not. Since I've "left", I've had rabid "immigrant" mentality. I look around and constantly see opportunity everywhere I look. I liken it to winning to global lottery. I have set-backs in business at times, I look for the backdoor. I'm always working on a new art or business (or spiritual) project--sending out my "feelers" in all different directions and watching in wonder where they flourish; cutting out the tendrils that fail. I used to live in a weedy trailor park waiting helplessly for armageddon to come and wash me away--now I L-I-V-E.
