Almost anything can be construed as selfishness. Mother Thersa was selfish because she got off on helping people. (as an obviously ignorant example). JW's go door to door to prove their faith, (so they don't die at armageddon..) I am having trouble convincing myself lately that I am doing any good sticking around. They will survive, and if my parents love me they will get over it. I could construe it anyway I want. Frankly.. (I know I have a MORAL obligation! tostand up for my beliefs, it is immoral to pretend to believe what is dangerous and wrong..) ((I like that one))

Stuck in the "Truth"
by IMustBreakAway ini notice from comments posted that many here who post (and untold scores who lurk) are still "in".
perhaps their social / family circles are too constricted for freedom of mind, and or, they are too afraid to rock the boat.
or too young to strike out on their own and are dependent on jw parents for support.

That last Watchtower study about those worthy of a Kingdom
by JimmyPage inin that last study about those worthy of a kingdom isn't it interesting that they say things like "how wonderful to have anointed still left on earth during the great tribulation with us.
they currently have nothing to do with the direction we get from the governing body.
in fact they have no greater insight than many of the great crowd.

Most of the people I speak to at the hall consider the "new annointed" to be a joke. Some of us joke that they are "the latter day saints". One benifit of claiming though that I can think of is getting to say kind of strange and off the wall stuff and most people just thinking you are crazy rather than apostate.. :-)

RE: to oompa. LOL. There are quite a few Orwellian similarities to "The truth". Not Orwellian in the much overused surveillance vein but in the doublespeak, doublethink "super plus not good" kind of way.

RE: to pickled.. Worst case? It's interesting, when i first started really mentally pulling away I convinced myself that it would hurt others if I left, and it wouldn't hurt me to stay. So by my own reckoning of what was "good and right" I couldn't hurt others on purpose if I could avoid it. Now the scales are starting to tip. Meetings are painful and I have stopped service all together. Others are starting to notice. I am probably just delaying the inevitable. Worst case really comes down to my mother and father crying, thinking they have lost their son, causing the whole family pain that I think I should be able to avoid causing them.

If I had money... I would buy an old factory in every major city in the US and convert it to loft space for young people trying to escape the religous clutches of their parents.. (mormons and amish also). I mean face it your 18 with little education and little prospects it is hard to get out. I think esp for the girls. Thanks for the words of advice. Wouldn't it be funny if WTBS found and erased all of us at once and it turned out that most JW's were faking for the sake of their freinds and family? Suddenly US participation dropped to null. Thats what I want to find, there are a few in my family that could be faking and I just don't know them well enough to tell. It would be a relife to set up a group and find that my father was only faking for the sake of his kids, and that us kids are only faking for his sake.

Atheist in U.S. poll 4% ------ Atheist on JWD 90 % ?
by caliber in( one recent post indicated this 90% figure) .
i don't wish to debate the pro's and con's of atheism, just help me understand your personal.
reasonings for this huge difference in figures.

I think Spook has a point. If you are taught all your life that you are the only one with truth and then find fault with it then suddenly no one has truth... = atheist.. When i decided that i didn't really believe I felt strongly atheist. But it was a reaction more than a rational thought. Now I am not so sure and have settled on "I don't know". Hopefully permanently.

Thanks for the map. Very interesting looking for people I might have known. And thanks for the workds of encouragement pickled. Though being honest with myself I should take some blame. I knew in my heart when i was baptized that i didn't really believe it. I knew when I got married that I didn't really believe it, and i knew everytime someone asked and I answered "YeS!" that i didn't really believe it. So some of the blame does come back to me. Though your right I shouldn't add guilt to a stack of feelings that is already depressing me. It is just so stupid. "No one truely believes in God until they have the freedom not to believe.." (Someone smarter than myself said that.)

You make a good point pickled. There is of course no guarantee that they wouldn't rat you out facing the fear of their own expulsion. I know I wouldn't but that doesn't mean that others wouldn't. I suppose it depends on their motives for still being in. And what kind of collateral you had on them. (IE ratting me out wont garnish you any favors with your JC since what I have on you is sure to get you expelled regardless...) I suppose ultimately I am just lonely. I have friends among the JW's and among my workmates, but don't feel like anyone really knows me. Honestly my own fault.

It would be interesting even just to do a google map.. With way points on the city where people are.. Also would really show the scope of how many are falling away.. It would really make me happy to see a map full of pinpoints all people who have left the truth..
