Mr. Shakita,
I printed your James the Just article.
Read it a couple of times. Great stuff. Learned more in 15 minutes from you than the last six months at the hall.
Thanks,

as a devout jehovah's witness, mrs. merle is prohibited from celebrating her birthday.
but a week from tomorrow, relatives and friends will flock to the camoset village country living mobile home park in johnstown to attend a super bowl party that just happens to feature ice cream and cake.. "that's why we're calling it a super bowl party," explained her son bob merle, 73, who lives just five trailers down the road.
"we don't celebrate birthdays, but we have to celebrate 100 years," said mrs. mechem, 78.
Didn't the WTS just get through celebrating the 50th BIRTHDAY of the UN?
Oh, sorry, I forgot. That was them. Stupid me.

To all,
This newbie has been straining to get in the fray.
I guess I was actually afraid of the consequences of joining the site. 45 years at the borg are hard to deal with.

On the other end,
my son and daughter in law just had a little girl at a birthing center late in 2005.
The nurses brought in a cake with one candle in it and took a picture of the new father, mother and baby and gave them a copy.
When her ex-witness brother living with a worldly woman that is studying saw the picture he called her and chewed her out for celebrating birthdays, and "stumbling" his girlfriends efforts to study and accept the teachings of the WT on birthdays.
It's just beyond words.
Go for it Grandma.

the wts is currently growing at about 1.3 % which is similar to the global propulation growth rate.
if all the jw kids stayed as jws then the religion could grow as quickly as it is now without any door knocking.. if in 2005 1.2 billion hours witnessing resulted in the religion only growing at the rate it should be naturally it suggests a lot a kids are leaving, or doorknocking is not having very good results.. of about 100 people born into the wts that i can remember in my congregations in australia about 3/4 of them have left.
is that the same in your congregation?
I have heard from CO's that we are losing half.
Seems dannyhazzard is more correct. Probably 70-80% leave and some of those drift back.

some of you might remember my situation....i have daed myself a while ago, and my father is the only jw in the family.
since i am very close to him and the family, he has read everything related to shunning, he even asked elders and even them are not sure.
so he wrote a big long letter to bethel to have an answer.
Loruhamah
where did you get that cool name?

Garybuss,
You hit the nail on the head when you said that "in the last 11 years the central hope for being a witness was lost!
Damn Right. THEY disconnected the 'generation' from their 'absolute date' of 1914, and they expected no one to notice. The day I read that in 1995 (I was an elder (PO)) I had a sh-- fit. I had promised myself that when they buried 1914 I would leave. They were too sneaky to be upfront about it, they had to disconnect the generation. Guess how? Yep, you know! They quoted a damn theologian to do it. As if they have respect for any theologians. But it served their corrupt little purposes.
RE: your comment about the GB. I read on the net a few days ago that 6 or 7 of the GB now were not even born in 1935, and further, several were brought in as 'given ones' and then later started partaking. Would I have ever enjoyed being a fly on the wall in the room when the brothers asked them, "ahem, ahem, have you ever given any thought to partaking. You seem so, so, mature......."
What a racket.
Lastly, in the 80's and early 90's my wife would occasionally say, "being a witness is such a good way of life, I think I would be one even if they were wrong."
She lied. She is so mad over the UN and the doctrinal changes of the 90's that she blazed the trail for the whole family to leave. She has convince me that it is a cult, was a cult and will continue to be a cult.
How blessed we are by Jehovah and His Loving Son Jesus Christ to have been able to remove the hypocritical organization that presumed themselves into the position of being our mediator for so many years. How nice and refreshing it is to throw off the yoke of captivity to Babylon the Great in the form of the WT.
May the wild beast enjoy his feast!
Again, thanks for the welcome.

ive been watching my number of posts climb towards 2,000 in recent days.. it seemed a good time to contemplate what ive learned in the two years, seven months and five days (according to my profile) since i joined the interactive fray although i lurked here for more than a year while i was a jw elder.
during that time, i read every single post starting with the first page and caught up.
of course, its impossible to read every one now, its so big, but it's been quite an education.
Willyloman,
Eloquently said.
Personally looking forward to that feeling of freedom (not the freedom to do wrong), and I know its coming.

Garybuss,
Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking for about 5 months, decided to "take my stand" and come out of the shadows.
I think it is safe to say that a lot of witnesses are voting with their bodies. In the congregation that I went to until last June our attendance was about 80 out of about 120, generally. When you try to discuss issues with anyone they seem to always take the WT side of issues.
I have a 30 year old son that is an MS in Texas and although he thinks the WT is actually run by an apostate evil slave class, that we need to wait on Jehovah to fix the problem and not try to fix it ourselves.
An elder friend of mine also in Texas, when I complained about the numerous articles re: UN, told me, don't let it bother me, I don't read any of that shit.
Most others that are aware of our stand just can't see the issue. A couple of elders have spoken with me a few times and I always ask them, "Why can't you see that the WT has sinned grieviously?" and they just think it is no big deal to get a library card. (As if that is true!)
Fortunately, my immediate family, wife, son and his wife, and grown two daughters and one of their mates has come to the same conclusion that I have, in fact they may have led the way somewhat. The WT is not God's representatives and does not have HIS interests at heart. The question that I am struggling with is, did they ever have Jehovah's favor? More and more I think not. Can't really say for sure yet how I feel about that. Working on it though.
I have enjoyed your posts a lot. Several times I wanted to send you a "Way to Go!" message, but was still fighting the ghosts.
Hope to hear more from you and look forward to your pithy comments.

I was an elder for 30 years and never once was party to any kind of judicial meeting that required family members to stop talking to one another. There is just too much family "business" that needs to transpire. Tell him to quit asking about it and lay low. How about taking personal responsiblilty for his actions. Why make the WT be responsible for family decisions?
The WT is simply trying to micro-manage everyone's life and they will if you let them. Your dad needs to think about the 10 year plus association that the WT had with the UN. Now that is a clear, scripturally provable violation of association, and they are not in the least inclined to admit an error.
They bind up heavy loads for others that they themselves are unwilling to carry.
Get out of the cult, try to associate at least some in an upbuilding way to encourage him to break the hypnotic spell that they have on him.
This is my first post, hope it is not inflammatory or offensive, that would be a bad way to start.
