Anyone here any good at fixing TVs?
by ballistic insorry for the completely non-jw related topic, but.... my sony trinitron tv had a number of thin blue horizontal lines appear towards the top of the screen.
i did some research and these appear to be "fly back lines" caused by the retrace showing as the gun moves back up the screen.. rather than call an engineer, i decided to buy another tv on ebay.
get it home, plug it in and this one has exactly the same problem except red lines instead of blue.. i'm just wondering what are the chances of this happening???

My friend has been on the look out since then hoping to see the JW somewhere around.
lol
I hated the slapping sounds of the kids getting hit all the time by their parents, for not sitting still for 2 hours. Once there was a talk about it and I was relieved as I thought they were going to tell them off for going overboard.
The elder began his talk with the slant of going against hitting, but then he did a turnaround halfway though by using the scripture about disciplining with the rod and said how its okay to hit your child and should be encouraged for their benefit.
I'm not sure but I think its against the law (uk) to hit your child if it leaves a mark?
My friend would hit her 5 year old very often and I think it taught him that if you are cross with someone then you hit them. He was a very angry and violent little boy, always getting into trouble at school for randomly punching the other kids. Once he punched me very hard in the stomach, I was so mad I almost throttled him. (more violence!).
My friend attracted a lot of attention. During the meeting, if she got annoyed with her child, she would shoot straight up from her seat and point to the back of the hall with a fierce look on her face. Her son would be beetroot red and cower on his chair. She would continue to stand there pointing until he moved. It was so embarrasing!
When he reluctantly got up from his chair, she would snatch him by his arm and drag him outside, he would be screaming by this point. After a while he would come back in, all sweaty and stressed with a tear stained face. He really seemed to go through a lot.
One of the worst things was even when he was off school due to illness, he still got dragged out on the field service. :(

I love doing the laundry so I would like to run a launderette but I would get really narked if I saw someone putting darks in with lights or a load of mixed fabrics. I would have to service wash everything or ban them from using my machines. I would also like to run a small bookshop. I imagine it would be very peaceful and I could just read all day.

'the society' this and 'the society' that.
Weak in the truth. Strong in the truth.

Sisters, did you feel inferior to Brothers?
by JH inhaving less privileges than brothers, did you feel inferior or simply different?.
would you have prefered to be treated equally to brothers, but with all the responsibilities that go with it?.
-
Moomin
I remember the sisters would say that Satan chose Eve to tempt first, as he knew what power a woman holds over her husband and that she will be able to talk him into eating the fruit. I think that made them feel better.

Do you consider yourself a spiritual person?
by hambeak insince most of us on this board have left the org for one reason or another, do you still feel a sense of spirituality to the great spirit?.
if so how?
if not why?.
-
Moomin
Hi Hambeak, I'm trying to keep reading and learning from the bible. I try to live according to the ways Jesus spoke of but I fail miserably every day. I would be embarrassed to refer to myself as a spiritual person as I know there's no way my behaviour reflects that.
How would you describe a spiritual person? I'm not really sure myself.

"i enjoyed your talk Brother"
by fleaman uk ini was musing about being a jw the other day.im not scarred by it like many,i dont hate anyone in my old cong..theres a couple of idiotic elders of course, but in the main my biggest thing when i think of my past life is the farsical nonsense of it all!.
meeting attendance, knocking on doors...oh dear.. one of the stupidest things was being required to do talks.i mean, come on who really used to listen to that drivel..i mean really listen?.
i was an ok speaker, nothing briliant, competent ..even gave a pub talk once when all the elders were on a jolly up at elders school.. it occurred to me how robotic bros and sis were when it came to giving praise!no matter how crap the talk was,one would always get a "i really enjoyed your talk brother".every time.without fail.i know they were being nice,i used to say it all the time too.my dad once said it to me and i asked him what he liked most about it?he admitted he didnt remember what it was even about.i dont remember in 30 years man and boy ever enjoying a talk.. yep,its a nonsense religion alright.full of braindead robots.. did anyone actually pay close attention and really enjoy the "food"from the platform?

I found that even if I tried to listen intently, I still wouldn't remember anything about it afterwards. A lot of the talks seemed to be just a load of talk about nothing.
