df parent is in hospital icu and surgeon wants to give blood.

parent is df for almost 20 and firmly refused blood for personal reasons (spiritual).. .

my concern is that parent is taking strong stand based on outdated jw gb hlc guidelines.

Thank you for your thoughtful responses. For a variety of reasons I don't want to address each response separately - out of respect for my parent.

20 years since DF'g with an aging guilt-laden, depressed person in pain and just out of surgery is complicated. Parent is mostly JW apologist but I softening the stance thru gentle and logical discussion.

Cofty's comments, I will share this with parent:

Is it worth trying to reason with parent that the prohibition on blood is based on a simple misunderstanding?, Did that w/ good success.

It was fine to eat unbled meat as long as the animal had not been killed - if it was found "already dead". Lev 11:38,39 Good to note.

Blood only had significance if a life had been taken therefore it does not apply to transusions. Excellent point. Must remember this.

My concern is that parent is taking strong stand based on outdated JW GB HLC guidelines. parent was not aware of "fractions" being allowed. Parent suffers from chronic pain and severe depression but lately has reengaged in life and has shown interest in doing fun but simple things. I do not believe that this parent is ready to die.

I am hospital with very limited internet access and hoping some of you can provide simple, non-emotional advice and encouragement for me to share with parent. Brief synopsis of increasing permissiveness of blood for jws can help.

Calm and thoughtful former elders, ministerial servants and HLC people i absolutely welcome your comments and if you are willing to talk to on phone please pm me.

Governing body member engaged... Again!

just found out that the australian governong body member known as geoffrey jackson got engaged to a sister about two weeks ago.

it really shocked me at first but then i remembered how other members of the gb have remarried in the past like daniel sidlik.

what made me say "woah" was hearing that the holy bride to be is really young!

i believe that if a non regular meeting attender shows up for at least the memorial "celebration", it's a sign, that possibly, the person is saveable.

not all hope is lost for them.. i heard that last year, the rumour was that i was going to show up and sit with my mother....(of course, that never happened).. so, if you attended or if your family member or wayward friend showed up, they might have a chance for everlasting (earthly) life, after all!.

my sister in law has been shunned by the family since she da'd herself at the age of 18 and moved out of the house.

i always insisted that my wife keep in contact with her and made sure she knew she had a soft place to land,with us, should she need it.

even at the risk of it getting us in hot water with the pioneer,elder,bethelite family members there was no way we were going to let her disappear into the wild blue yonder on her own.

it's a cut-and-paste of an ad for classmates.com.. what caught my eye is that the books they have in their ad are actually jw yearbooks!!

It *is* weird. It popped up on game I was playing and I did a double take. I used to have everyone one of those books - and then some. I think my 1975 book is still in my garage somewhere. And my '73 book was more worn than the one in the photo.

Finally Awake - feel free to report it to whomever you chose!

Wonder if a JW is contracting with classmates.com for their web presence...?
