I have seen a resolution be questioned and even opposed, twice, I think. But it was just one or two people in opposition. The majority won.

who would have thought that enough people would raise their hands when the resolution was put before the congregation tonight?
based on the pledges that the publishers put on those little pieces of paper, the congregation is promising the wts that they will send $1,000/month to support the society's building funds.. there is a traditional monthly shortfall of about $100 with the basic monthly bills usually around $1,000.
i didn't raise my hand.

i am going to throw down the gaunlet.
those who know the truth but stay in anyways are complicit in actions of the jehovah witness organization.
while i am sympathetic to the very difficult choices that they have to make, their unwillingness to confront the jw enables the organization.. some of you may remember my story.
"Complicit" is the exact word I used when I told myself that I could no longer sit in my chair in the Hall I had attended for many years. "Complicit" is the concept that gave me the courage to get up and leave in the middle of a Public Talk one Sunday when I decided that I could not sit silently in my seat and listen to what I was hearing from the platform while knowing several things that were dramatically wrong in just my hall.
At the time, I felt there was no way to express my concerns about mistreatment/disregard of children and women and the general lack of love and appreciation of congregation members without being brought under judicial inquiry for speaking against the organization.
To remain silently seated was to be complicit with the actions of the leaders and the congregation members. My conscience would not let stay put. I was a 'walk-away believer', though. So my leaving honestly and sincerely an act of loyalty to Jehovah.
I up and left. They never came looking for me. My family never asked 'why'.
A few have invited me back over the past 20 years. I (mostly) politely decline.
Others feel a need to stay - for a variety of reasons. I kind of get it. They have to do what they feel is right for themselves and their family - even if I think the better decision is to leave and find unconditional friends. You, unfortunately, inherited a cultic mess. Good luck with that! If I were you, I'd probably be inclined to laugh and tell them that I think they are ALL f'in nuts and the shunning is the most *UN*-christian thing I've ever seen. And tell them that until they get rid of that non-christian behaviour, I don't even want to waste my precious time listening to anything remotely religious that they have to say.
Please keep in touch here and let us know how things progress. But yes, I agree that 'complicit' is what JWs are - especially the ones who have woken up.

i occasionally pop through here to catch up on the latest, but this time i'm going to pop my own post on here.. some of you internet oldsters may even remember this.
my first experience on the internet regarding discussions about jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower took place on a now-obscure usenet group, before i eventually stumbled across hourglass2.. during those days, there was a poster who went by the name "prominent bethelite," an otherwise anonymous individual whom i remember most for an extensive, exhaustive compilation of date-oriented remarks, predictions, and expectations by the watchtower organization down through the decades of its history.. it became known as "the list" and it's definitely lengthy... but a fascination look at the abundance of errant statements made through the watchtower's history.. if you're curious, it's been available for a long time on hourglass2's site, and can be seen using the link provided below.. the list, compiled by prominent bethelite (1999).
that's about it for this stop through here.

according yearbook - 1994 official name wts in poland was:.
*** yb94 p. 247 poland ***.
imagine their joy when, 40 years later, on may 12, 1989, the director of the office for religious affairs approved the charter of the straznicatowarzystwo biblijne i traktatowe, zarejestrowany zwiazek wyznania swiadkow jehowy w polsce (watchtower bible and tract society, registered religious association of jehovahs witnesses in poland)!
Marking - This could be very important; precedent-setting.
So much for not having a clergy class. Unless it benefits the WTS, I guess...

Here are links to the threads started by the JWN poster who was in that courtroom at that time. She provides a little commentary and background, too.

Yup.

I had forgotten about him. One of his maids, 'Sol', was a JW. She attended my cong and I used to give her a ride home on Sunday's. Steve or his wife would drop her off before the Sunday meeting.

Lois Lane wrote: "... remember when the rumor started that the Nelson Family (TV show family, son Ricky Nelson also singer , performer) were studying with JW's? ..."
I can answer this one.
I don't know if he actually 'studied' - in the formal sense - but I do know for a fact that Ricky Nelson had a family "friend" who was a JW and I know he was witnessed to. But don't know that it was necessarily a (serious) study. The JW friend was PH1L V0LK was part of Ricky Nelson's Stone Canyon Band and back in the 1960's, Phil had been of Paul Revere and the Raiders.

EDIT TO ADD: You can read Phil's own words about the RickyNelson connection/history here: http://www.philfangvolk.com/rickynelson.html
tried to get into jw.net twice but a popup informed me that the official website of jw's is jw.org.
this was about 2 hours back.
anybody with a similar experience?.
I did not know it was a real site. I thought people were just shortening the address for this site (JWN).
Who owns jw.net?

my husband is actually asking me questions about the governing body saying they are the mouthpiece of jehovah and the whole jesus invisible rulership in 1914 etc.
i am looking up stuff now to show him but if you have any proof, qotes, etc.
to help me wake up my husband please send to me now asap!.
After he clearly explains how and why 1914 is so important (remember, it might take him a few weeks to learn it himself), give yourself a couple of days to read thru these threads and other info on JW Facts:
