Monty followed the request of the Commission to please review the information on the website regarding the purpose of the hearing and to review his own notes and/or try to refresh his memory BEFORE taking the stand.
So far, aside from the victims, he seems to be the ONLY one who has followed the directions!

He left on principle due to disagreement with the WT. Ultimately disfellowshipped and JWs who were working for him had to find other employment.
Monty says that he personally was not uncomfortable about the 'shunning' but that it was more uncomfortable for the active JWs who felt they had to keep away from him as he was an apostate.

Monty does not seem to want to be here. And he admits that he has intentionally tried to distance himself from all things JW for the past 22 years.
He says that within his written statement that he could not recall names of many of people involved the cases in question. But upon reviewing the documents presented him from the commission, he, of course, remembered the people and the details have come back to him.

Sort of.
They (the active elders called upon to make testimony) didn't read ANYONE's statement so, technically, his response is honest.
However, recent WT directives dictate that no lover of Jehovah should listen, read or share reports from ANY person speaking negatively of the organization.

Edit to Add: I found a link to transcripts for Study 28. JW hearing is 'Study 29', so perhaps there is a delay for the Commission to post the transcripts after the entire hearing is completed???

deRooy states: [paraphrased] People in the congregation understand that they are entitled to go to the police in cases of incest and child sex abuse
Female Questioner: [paraphrased]: Where does that understanding come from?
deRooy [paraphrased]: Uhhh... It's know among the congregation.
Female Questioner: [paraphrased]: But *where* does that understanding come from? Where is it written?
Common sense *could* have been the answer. But JWs do not use their own common sense. They are trained (with fear of displeasing Jehovah and ultimate destruction at Armageddon) to look to and to trust the lead of the elders and WT dictates.

Female Questioner: What training do you have as to what scriptures to use when counselling [people such as BCG]?
DeRooy: [paraphrased] I think on what would be appropriate to the case... [yadda yadda yadda]
Female Questioner: But you haven't had any *specific* training on what to do in cases of sex abuse, have you?

What other sorts of matters would court consider. Aren't 'legal' matters the ONLY thing that courts of law consider???
