Creepy Talks

do any of you remeber any talks that were creepy in nature.for example i remember a talk where a brother said "when the end comes your friends and family will be against you" now if that is not crazy i don't know what is.i remember alot of talks regarding bible prophecy and the end times.all of this did not help reinforce the sense of fear since it was 2007-2008 and the united states was going through a recession.this just proved to be fuel for their talks.give good experiences of any talks that you have had that proved to be either weird or very creepy..

Two popular 'Out Talks' that my dad used to give were already mentioned in this thread: 'A Godly View of Sex and Marriage' and 'Deliver Us From the Wicked One'.

Deliver Us from the Wicked One was about demons. I almost always went with him when he gave that talk. The other one... Not so much.

I wish I could remember the subject of the talk at the last regular meeting I attended. The talk that I got up and walked out of. I'm not sure if the subject matter itself was creepy of just the delivery style of the speaker. Regardless, I was creeped out and could not sit in my seat and participate anymore. I can see the speaker's face but cannot remember his name.

Sometimes it is enough to

(a) suggest her feeling are normal and not something that FS can 'fix'

(b) tell her about the website so she can file it in her mind for when something upsets her about the WTS/Congo

(c) know that single available and desiring marriage Brothers are slim pickings!

I don't personally recall the org itself using this as a reason to not go to university. However, I *have* heard individual JWs reference this and other sordid news reports to emphasize the 'college is bad' belief.

Additionally, around 1985 I was in service with a young elder's wife. Householder refused to speak to us on basis of JW failure to participate in military. Her son was killed in war and she somehow felt betrayed (??) by JWs. (Or jealous or that if there would have been better support...)

As we were leaving the doorstep, the young elder's wife said: "Well you can be absolutely *sure* that it wasn't one of Jehovah's witnesses that killed your son."

*sigh* crazy times.

I think this was a valid question but the mis-spelling may have caused many to just skip over it. (Maybe message a moderator and ask them to edit the spelling.)

I thought about it alot yesterday and remember this coming up so frequently in conversations about 'the end' (which was a daily topic in a new-JW family back then.)

i will volunteer to coordinate this.. if you would like a card sent to you or send a card, pm me your mailing address and a name the post office will deliver to.. what do you think the cut off date should be for sending the exchange lists out to everyone?.

do you want it pm'd or e-mailed (if emailed send your email address with your snail mail.. i know that cards going overseas can take longer.. .

LOL Sooo far from it this year. But all that under-acheiving left me lots of time to send the cards.

Now that that's done, back to job-searching.

New Beginnings!!!!

well things have changed big time for me.

on the 3rd of dec. finally, i have left my work at bethel and moved almost 500 kilometres away to a new life.. some of you were aware of my work in a european branch, and have kept my confidence.

for this i am eternally grateful...you know who you are.. the huge weight that has been taken off my shoulders is both a comfort and a relief.. when i settle into my new home properly, i intend to write some memoirs of life at the branch, hoping that others will find it of interest.. for now my future is for the first time uncertain and that makes it very very exciting, but i am no longer under the control of others yay!!.

I was 9 and a half when my parents began studying in January 1970 and they were baptized 6 months later. Armageddon was coming in 5 years and the WTS was inspired by Jehovah.

WT literature, written 6 months or so before publication was prophetic as current events seems to coincide with what was happening the week we presented the mags in service.

There was a photo in the orange book "From Paradise Lost, to Paradise Regained" that was strangely similar to a popular photo taken at the scene of the Kent State Massacre. The girl kneeling next to her slain friend... Her arms are extended up towards the sky.

For years my parents used that photo as partial evidence of the WTS inspiration and insight and proof of Jehovah's direction.
