Far and away the best video I have seen explaining cults
by jwfacts inthis 5 minute ted video perfectly explains what a cult it.
it does not mention jws, but perfectly aligns with them.
it is put in a manner that would make some understand why jws are considered a cult.

Two different families are pictured in this thread. The one by Freelikeabird is not the same family as in the OP.
Which is the JW family?
And WELCOME, Freelikeabird! Nice to have you join us.

Is there any evidence that the WTS stated the 20th century would be the last?
by TTWSYF ini know that other early dates are well documented leading up to 1975. it did seemed that the wts learned to stop setting dates, but i seem to recall talk about the 20th century will certainly be the last according to god's perfect timing.
i can't recall specifically where i heard such blatant rhetoric though.. anyone?
bueller?

See the article about 1975 on jwfacts.com for quotes, photos and recordings about the WTS proclamations regarding 1975.

I don't recall the WTS *ever* saying time would end.
They did very strongly imply that 'the end of this wicked system of things' would end in 1975.
JWs have long believed that the earth itself would continue on indefinitely and life on earth would never end. Just the wicked people would be destroyed, but not the earth or dates and time.

We do sound like a cult
by notalone in"we do sound like a cult..." so in the last few conversations i have had with my still deeply in friend she has mentioned this a couple times when lamenting things that don't seem right.
she has a relative that left and is telling everyone jw's are a cult.
she is very defensive and deeply disturbed by this accusation.

JWs have been trained on how to respond/react to the suggestion that they are a 'Cult'.
After being out for many years, I was still defending them against this label.
Then, on a late night radio talk show, I heard the host refer to Jehovah's Witnesses as a very high-control group. It struck me as odd labeling, but it fit. The more I thought about it, the more it fit.
Cult is a trigger word for JW's. I think using the phrase 'high-control group' is a good way to avoid the JW trained defense response when you want someone to start realizing they are in a cult.
From 'high-control group' to 'cult' is a very short step.

Southern California USA Congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses On High Alert
by JW GoneBad incircuit overseers, elders, ministerial servants, pioneers and rank & file are stressed out over an ex-jw (kevin) who has visited nearly 20 congregations (orange county) and has high-jacked the opening prayers and done some effective witnessing before he is escorted to the back door.
and everything is caught on video!.
kevin is also visiting numerous jw cart locations from the los angeles area to orange county and giving a most effective wiitness at each location and they're all on video.

I shudder when I see things like this. But I was curious and watched a few videos. There may be some effect to some in the Halls. Time will tell.
Still, it is extremely disrespectful to take over a meeting. That alone makes ex-JWs seem unstable.
I *do* think the idea of setting up a spot adjacent to JW carts could be effective.
He covered a LOT of ground. Even up to Ventura, 3rd Street Promenade in SantaMonica and down to SanDiego.
The man DOES get around...!

Very nice. Congrats on making a difference.
Reminds me of a quote:
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.
