by Ariell indid it ever bother you when the watchtower published magazines praising doctors, nurses, policeman, etc., but yet discouraged witnesses from having these jobs either because they took up too much time or because they involved violence.
i'm talking front page-cover stories here.
of course they did it to draw outsiders in, but the hypocrisy of these people, it baffles me sometimes.

You have hit on a very valid point.
It is just another indication that the jw teaching's are duplicitous to say the least. They on the one hand encourage the r & f to respect/obey 'ceasars law', yet in the next breath demand non-compliance. All predicated on THEIR interpretation of what God wants.
They can vasilate, back and forth, change their understanding from year to year, yet literaly destroy someone's life if at any time they have the audacity to disagree with their conclusions. They have set up a system that allows them a way out, for any ridiculous stand they take. It is so blatant it sometimes is pathetic. Yet jw's are quick to make appology.
Which allows them to call the police, utilize the justice system, claim social benefits, without even a moments consideration or appreciation for those that provide such services.
Look at how they milk the judicial system with their own in-house attorney's. They even use the contributions of the world wide brotherhood, to fund the college education of these staff attorney's. But hey let an individual member express the desire to become an attorney........guess what.......he/she is considered weak, because he should be devoting himself to 'the ministry'. Damn their hypocrital selves!

This is a prime example of why it is not always a good idea to 'get together'. True friendships come about by real life contact, the presumption that being an ex-jw is reason enough to seek out personal contact, is a receipe for this very senario.

I have only one suggestion....download and intently listen to the recording of the talk 'Listening to the Voice of Strangers' recently posted here.
Listen to the brother's voice, his tone and inflections, the underlying fear, anxiety this organization keeps its adherants living with.
I remember giving talks like that. I remember squelching my own revulsion for the words assigned for me to say. Always reminding myself that IT COMES FROM JEHOVAH/ORG, so I must do it with conviction to help the brother's.
In fact the real wake up call came one Sunday while delivering the public talk. My 'assigned subject' my 'assigned outline' was on Jesus's Sermon on the Mount. As I basicaly recited the societies interpretation of what Jesus meant by his words.......it became crystal clear to me that Jesus words had no such meaning or application. It was a huge leap, a blatant attempt to assign his words as applying to jw's. It was the begining of the end for me.
What happens on this tiny little board, involving people we do not really know, for good or bad, has little to do with the reality of returning to a religion. Any religion.
If you can listen to that talk......all the way through........and visualize yourself sitting in that KH again, without the slightest hint of revulsion, then perhaps you will make it back.
But remember after the first blush of honey dripping well wishers, that will swarm around your return. That within a very short period of time, you will be right smack dab back into the midst of backstabing, bickering, gossip, and ill will, that any forced close association of human beings seems to generate.
Just like you have experience on these boards.
I hope you really listen to that talk.......that is what your heading back to.
Whatever you decide.......I wish the best to you.

Are these the "crucial" years for the Watchtower ? Is time running out ?
by run dont walk inor can they keep it going another 100 years.. maybe i'm being a little too hopeful, but i think the next 10 years are do or die for the watchtower.. is was different back in the 20's 30's 40's 50's and 60's, they could get away with changing doctrine and "new light" and new ideas.. but today, people are different and more independent, and question things a lot more.. the "annoited class" is almost gone, regardless of the bs figures they give, .
1914 is all but dead, .
literature is not available like it used to be, .

I think I'm about to become a victim of an "intervention"
by cruzanheart ini just got a phone call from someone i used to know, oh, about 25 years ago.
she and her cousin and i hung out together as single pioneers -- they got married, i got married, we lost touch.
well, turns out she now goes to the same congregation as one of the witnesses who works at my law firm -- the same one who, months ago when i started telling people i was no longer one of jehovah's witnesses, told me i could believe what i want but "don't make trouble for the rest of us" -- and evidently the two ladies got to talking and my co-worker gave her my phone number at home.

At first impression my reaction was, why even get your law firm involved since you and the ex-jw's know each other anyway. Note; Iam assuming that phone numbers are published in Texas just like here in California (one has to make a special request for an unlisted number).
Then after reading your memo to the HR person I changed my mind. This nefarious affair has backfired on the witnesses. Now everyone in upper management at your firm, has very solid evidence that jw's are in fact not as trustworthy as they would like to have people think.
So your stand has shown them up to be just what they hate to be labeled as, fanatical cult members. Iam afraid when they get wind of what has been bantered around management offices, the realization that THEY have brought 'reproach on Jehovah and his organization'.......ain't it grand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see so much bashing of Bush, the military, on this site that it really disheartens me.
Having come from the jw background of reaping the benefits (freedoms) insured by the military/soldiers of past conflicts....it puzzels me how so many here can be so calous and cold towards such sacrifices.
It just makes me happy to see someone stand up for the troops.

Witness sayings

there were sayings used over and over again to control my behaviour.
the biblical on bad associations spoil useful habits and another on just because everyone else does it doesnt mean you have to do it to, would you jump off a cliff just because other people do what were the sayings that bugged you?
