Letter of Disassociation

this is a six page tract [originally a letter] written by a prominent watch tower pilgrim as to the changes he saw within the society shortly after the death of pastor russell.. .

Hall sounds like one of us! Even so he reverts back to touting Russell's Studies in The Scriptures as the 'real truth'. His comments about studying the old watchtower's was comical, in light of the fact that most modern jw's view 'old watchtower's' as 'old light'........of course we understand why.

This fellow Hall seemed to really feel the changes made by Rutherford. Interesting that he zeroed in on Rutherford's illegal takeover.

First off Gumby I get 'twisted' enough around this place.....don't need no alkyhaaaal to do so. But Iam pretty sure Shell could stay right with us macho men, I know she likes to drink tequila!!!! Me and the worm juice are friends but if I embrace that friend to much, Iam liable to act like a raging bear. So I pick and choose the times, and places, very carefully when I drink the cactus juice. Wine and beer, lets have a party!!!!

Gumby, Ash, you said pretty much what I feel. What Shell seems to try and ignore, is the very basis for her belief in her lord, is tied irrevocably to the Bible. Without which, she or any other christian, would have no claim to fame.

So with that unarguable fact, it leaves those of us who have chosen to view the Bible's claim of divine authorship with a skeptical eye, pretty much out of any back and forth, trade verse for verse, so much the norm for those who believe.

Shell you make very impassioned arguments for your faith. Even so there comes a time when even you must admit that somewhere 'never the twain will meet'. I think the discussion is good for any still considering thier own stand on the bible and religion, but it seems that you have encountered at least 3 or 4 of us, who have pretty well made up our minds. Think?

Anyway it has been fun. I would be glad to 'get twisted' with any of you.

Thanks so much. It is obvious you have done some real homework on this history.

Loyalty seems to be the rallying cry of jw's for thier entire history. I know my folk were extremely loyal to the judge. Around 1940 the judge was acting irrational with lots of his close associates. My folks just up and left Bethel service, with just a few belongings and a home made travel trailer.

Whisper's of the judges erratic behaviour is all we ever heard. But from what I remember it was serious enough to make people pick up and leave.

For my dad to do so, was significant. He was the judges personal chuaeffer as well as body guard. Somewhere in our family records is a 'concealed weapon permit' issued to dad, to carry a 45 while drivng the judge around in his sixteen cylinder caddy. Mom his personal housekeeper on Staten Island. So they were indeed very aware of most if not all of the judges foibles.

Will your research be made available in a published format? If so I would look forward to obtaining a copy.

i wish i had more time to get on personal levels with you all but that's not going to happen now.

i didn't tell my family but, i am kind of worried about the war, something tells me it's not going to be another six day war.

I just wanted you to know, I read every word. It's late and I have a big day set up for tomorrow, so I have to get some sleep.

You are a real giver Shell, we may never agree on beliefs, but the world needs people like you who care. You truly seem to do just that.

Don't let that ole jw guilt play with your mind. You learned things here, that will forever alter your perspective, yet those nasty Watchtower mind implanted 'demons' may try and assault you.

Anyway, wherever you go, you probably wont be to far from a computer, so come back for a fix of jwcom when you need it.

If ever I considered anyone a hero, and believe me I have few, it is the guys/gals who put thier lives on line, like you.

Thanks for your response. Here was my comment regarding James Pentons estimate:

On page 42 of Penton's Apocalypse Delayed under the subtitle of The New Covenant Schism he states in part:

"Consequently, several hundreds out of a total perhaps of 10,000 Bible Students seceeded."

This was in 1909 and the circumstance surrounded a dispute regarding the interpretation of the ransom sacrifice and to whom it applied.

Apparently what makes it so hard to define actual number's, is the almost unstructured manner the congregations were adminstered before Rutherford started his dictatorship.

edited to add: In 1927 Rutherford addressed a convention in Ontario Canada with over 15,000 in attendance.

Also RR you mentioned that the 'Dawn's' were instrumental in getting WBBR going. Since my father was the radio station engineer at that time. He was involved from the very start, putting up the broadcast tower and building the facility.

I wonder about this, because both mom and dad may well have come to Bethel as 'Dawns' but I never heard a thing about it.

If possible, do you have any comments or figures relating to the discussion under Artful's '1919 Bible Students'?

I would like to know what you thought about the estimates made by James Penton vs the wtbs on the number of active Bible Students 1914-1920's.

Amen brother Gumby.

What is unfortunate is that defender's of 'the faith'. Will try and minimize or subvert the obvious. For one to 'believe' in Christ Jesus (arisen) you must have unreserved confidence that the bible is what it claims to be. Words and messages supplied from god himself.

No amount of backpeddeling or excuses for what it say's, can change that fact.

So 'believer's' must resort to all sorts of backhanded justification for a good deal of what it (the bible) declares.

British Balmpots Rule The World!!!

this morning i received a telephone call from a company asking me to drive 500 odd miles for them on a delivery run taking me pretty darn close to englishman's home, upon arriving at his doorstep, he instantly nagged me to make a post, despite my adversity towards doing so, 1 cor 15: 33 an all that, however, thought rather than upsetting his somewhat peculiar nature, that i'd take him up on the offer and wish you all the best.

so, to those that know me, may i wish you all the best and my hopes that 2003 be one hec of a good year for the lot of you.

life this end is excellent as usual, though in these winter months not spending as much time as i would like down upon the banks of the helford river.
