Phone Calll From My Brother -- He's Reinstated!

i got a phone call a couple of nights ago from my younger brother.

actually a message on my voice mail.

he called to let me know that last night he and his band would be practicing at his apartment and wanted me to come over because "we haven't hung out together in a long time" his own words to his disfellowshipped brother!

Boy, you are so right. Very happy to hear about your continued relationship with your brother. That is just great.

Your mentioning that there is hope for family members is really true. I thought I would probable never have a chance to have a relationship with my daughters, but in the last year my oldest has opened up and we talk at least once or twice a week.

I hope your right about a softening up within the ranks.......even if it doesn't reflect the attitude of the old geezers in Brooklyn.

Your post just topped off the fun we were having on Daves cussing thread! Iam smiling even more.

amac's point is a good one. I see little difference in the behaviours of tranced Voo-Doo dancers vs. Pentecostal holy rollers. Perhaps the only distinguishing difference is their motivation..one seeking a relationship with the benign Jesus/god the other with a contrasting darker side. Both equally releasing brain waves of artificial rapture.

in one post, i said:one possible reason that both native americans and blacks (then slaves) were treated so badly for so long is that both largely sided with the british in the war of independence.

i guess countries have some kind of giant collective consciousness that takes a while to change.. .

If my memory serves me right, African slavery was very alive in the Caribbean islands long before arriving on the shores of the US.

It came to America based upon Abaddon's reasons above and the new market created by the tabacco/cotton farmers of the south.

To much like 'mob frenzy' for my taste. Much like the ole 'tent preachers' who whipped their audiences into a trance like state of mind. Then are able to simply knock some poor soul to the ground with a touch to the forehead. Way to emotional entertainment for my taste.

If you are refering to Aztec's conclusion that chemicals are required, then my doubts about the validity/value of such prayer are magnified. Can't imagine any positive effects being in a mental stupor can bring when endeavoring to speak with the creator.

Of course a bottle of spirits can aid in enjoying other activities........when I feel like feeling incredible Tequila has worked for me........at least during the consumption.

I get what you are saying. The creator (God) may not be anything like what 'religions' have painted him to be. God's reasons for creating may be so different from man's conception.......that your question really provides a possibe answer. Nobody knows thats the dilema.

It may well be a placebo.

Public prayer, or praying for someone else imo is absudity. Iam a nascar fan, and watch every race 'religiously', I cringe every time some chaplan or preacher utters the assine request of God to 'keep the driver's safe' or to 'bless this event'...........to me its just a show, no substance, no meaning.

If it is a placebo, then it should be taken privately and with no pomp or ceremony.......it may not have the same effect on those adding their amen.

As to your question about toenails...........I prayed about it and god said take two LAMISIL tablets every day for the next 6 months.......If it doesn't work, try sugar pills.

The act of formulating thoughts and uttering them silently to god, can be cathartic and a source of energy.

If for no other reason, expressing appreciation for life, for good fortune, health, whatever in prayer can focus one's thoughts away from being totally self centered.

When you mind is only filled with 'me' it can be difficult to extend empathy to others. When you are your own personal 'god'.......it is to easy to dismiss anyone or anything that gets in your way. Whereas having the humility to seek guidance or help from 'outside', can open the mind to other possibilities, not to mention the relaxation of turning over your cares/burdens to someone else..........like LT said a contentment, often very elusive to those who do not pray.

Your right, my one sentence reply was to narrow in scope. My point actually was that Africans were being traded in around Cuba/Islands long before the, trade in human flesh, made its way to America.

Native Americans & Blacks shared a commonality, being to weak, to few, with no political or social influence, to make a difference. Put all that together, and it didn't matter who they supported.....it just didn't matter in the big picture.

Same was true during the Civil War, although some all black units distinguished themselves in battle wearing blue and grey.

Slavery was alive and well, well before the 1600's. Slaves a world wide commodity since the dawn of history.

christianity, in it's truest, fundamentalist form, promotes an unhealthy and non-productive victim mentality.

the christian feels helpless on his own -- condemned by sin and absolutely unworthy.

Ya better invite Dave along, I think he knows how to play this 'Christ like' thing to the hilt. When 'artists' (not to mention 'true believers') liken you to their personal saviour........well your damn good.

Dave is almost on a par with Lisa (LDH)......she is god, ya know.

Just stay away from the tequila, when them Christian girls get to dancing on the tables........on second thought l will meet you there.
