Was the straw that broke the camels back, the workload?
by jambon1 ini realise that there are many reasons for people leaving the org and some are very sensitive and difficult to discuss.
but i was wondering how many people, if they really think about it, were finally broken by the sheer workload as a jw.
someone replied to my thread yesterday (page 2), and discussed the average week for most jw`s.

I realise that there are many reasons for people leaving the org and some are very sensitive and difficult to discuss. But I was wondering how many people, if they really think about it, were finally broken by the sheer workload as a JW. Someone replied to my thread yesterday (page 2), and discussed the average week for most JW`s. It is very true. Basically, after long, tiring days at work it was highlighted how each night/weekend, in fact, ANY spare time was to be taken up by JW 'work' of somekind. And if you were'nt doing this you felt guilty!! In my own case, we had a massive workload thrust upon a small apointed body. The endless talk preperation, study, form filling (in a mag/lit dept), etc etc was exsasperating. Although I had many, many problems with the org doctrinaly, I think the workload just finished me off in the end. I was shattered. My family were suffering because of my lack of time and energy. This lead to frustration and a very unsettled household. Do you think they realise what they are doing to people? Do you really think it dawns on them that the brothers workloads are just about breaking individuals? Do they even care?

CFS,WHAT THAT?
Chronic fatigue syndrome. I think a few put this on so as to take a back seat, relinquish responsibilities etc. I do believe many are legitimately effected & they have my sympathy but I`ve personally know a few people who were putting it on mainly for the reasons above. BTW - I was chronically fatigued trying to live the JW lifestyle, who wouldnt be?

Are most JW`s deeply unhappy?
by jambon1 inits not until you are out of the religion that you notice how unhappy a lot of witnesses are.
through family i still have contact with quite a few and hear of stories of whats going on.
i am like a different person now i am out.

I am like a different person now I am out. Of course, JW`s would love nothing more than for you to be deeply depressed but I think when they see me in the street or hear about me, they are perplexed as to how I can possibly be so happy. Its not what they expect.
Meanwhile, you hear about more and more family break ups, ill health, and just general negativity from inside the org. I am taliking about the brothers/sisters who are telling these tales. I heard of one pioneer who said he wanted `out of the truth`!!
I can see it written over the face of family members on meeting nights/mornings - they are so tired and worn out, and simply would rather give the meeting a miss but they are stuck in this dilema about 'never missing a meeting'. The same goes for field service mornings - what a stress to control 2 kids, speak to people who dont want to be spoken to & do all of this when you are physically exhausted.
I drank heavily when I was a JW because I couldnt cope with the 'nothing is ever good enough' mentality. I was mentally, emotionally & physically wrecked trying to keep up. Add to this, serious doubts about various doctrines and I nearly had a breakdown.
But is this just regional to my area? Do you think there are lots of witnesses who are facing the same battles? Im not so sure, some congs seem very lively.
Anyone concur?

I believe that most witnesses are actually very unhealthy people.
Most are complaining of some malady or depression. This doesnt surprise me bacause when I was in I was deeply depressed having to live a life that I knew was wrong. This puts tremendous pressure on the mind & body.
Apart from a few who sail along unaffected, the JW lifestyle/mental outlook is negative, antisocial and ultimately depressing. For most, there is always the unique pressures that come with being a witness - unbelieving mates, family oposition, disfellowshiped sons/daughters etc etc etc.
In my old cong most people had bad health and no glint in their eye.
Im so glad Im out of it.

Overheard at Special Assembly Day
by under_believer inat our "special assembly day," they interviewed an elderly "sister" in her 70's.
she is the wife of a longtime circuit overseer who is of a similar age, but in very poor health.
a couple years ago he retired into our circuit and is being entirely supported by contributions from people in our circuit, living in one of those connected-to-the-kh apartment arrangements.

The bit about pioneering always got to me. They would sit and judge all us losers for not pioneering and yet be willing to take of our surplus when offered. Hmmmmm

If you could sit down and talk to a loved JW family member.....
by Apostate Kate inwhat do you think would work today to convince them that the wtbts is not the "only voice of god on earth," the only "true religion," the only correct understanding of the bible?
do you think telling them about the un, or the false dates, or the pedophile problem would work best?
would you try to shove the wizards curtain aside?

I have had a couple of big blow outs where I tried to expose the org for what it is. I used transplants/blood/failed prophecy/d/f policy. Because I felt so badly decieved myself I overreacted and it ended up in a fight. This brings no results whatsoever.
Now I just try and show that I live a good life. I try to show that most people in the world are also good, honest people who also have a level of integrity. I agree with the other post which mentioned trying to `win without a word`.
JW`s have the strangest look on their face when you inform them that you are happy and living a good life. You dont need to overdo/exagerate your happiness, just be humble and honest. They just cant understand it. If you said that you were miserable, depressed & utterly dejected, sad to say, they would be delighted. It goes with their mentality. We were all like this once.
By being a decent person (despite own personal weaknesses), you show that the crap you are fed about `the world being in wickedness` is nothing but an exagerated opinion. The more they see that you are not worthy of the death sentance at armageddon the more they will internally question what they believe.
Its sad for me to see loved ones in such a state of confusion about the twisted beliefs they have been taught but nevertheless it is a necessary process. I was there myself once, not too long ago.
Time & good living breaks down this thoroughly warped belief system. Unconditional love for all ensures your own happiness whatever JW relatives decide to do.
