Disassociate or "Fade"
by done4good ini know this has probably been discussed before, but i would like to take a poll of your thoughts as to what you personally would do, disassociate yourself or just fade over time.
i've been in the process of "fading" myself since november of last year, (last meeting in january, and never going back).
i have been considering making it official though by formal letter of da.

The point is simple. Why needlessly bring this amount of 'drama' into your life if it can be avoided? Fading out is really the only route to take if you want to go "on your own terms". Why? Because the message the fader sends, silently, gracefully and without theatrics, is the following: "I dont care about this organization. You never owned me. I dont owe you the PLEASURE of a letter. I am going to live my life by my rules. You are so insignificant to me that I will not take the time or effort to bother sending you a letter or formally giving you a "reason" for my departure. I dont need to give you a reason".
I think that Kid-A made a good point. In my opinion, fading is a much better decision especially for those of us who have several family members in the org.

stuff i think about...
by bluebeads in->is it fair/just/loving that innocent children be punished for their parent's wrongdoings etc...?
a passage from the new book released @ the dc p.131-2.
"(malachi 4:1) in that day of accounting, young children (boughs) will be dealt with justly according to jehovah's assessment of their parents (roots), who are responsible for minor children.

Michael Shermer who writes a monthly column in Scientific American Magazine made some very good points in his book: Why People Believe Weird Things.
He writes an entire chapter about the counter-arguments that anti-evolutionists try to come up with the dismiss all of the evolutionary evidence. One of those arguments is regarding the disagreement that occurrs within the scientific field.
Shermer writes: "Creationists have misunderstood, either naively or intentionally, the healthy scientific debate among evolutionists about the causal agents of organic change. They apparently take this normal exchange of ideas and the self-correcting nature of science as evidence that the field is coming apart at the seams and about the implode. Of the many things evolutionists argue and debate within the field, one thing they are certain of and all agree upon is that evolution has occurred."

Shawn10538,
Sorry my friend, but your list of instructions totally lost me. I have to admit that I don't have quite as many brain cells as many others do.
I would just like to agree with what ithinkisee wrote about Steven Hassan's book: Combatting Cult Mind Control. It is an excellent book, and I recommend it to everyone.

ITS NOT ABOUT THEOLOGY; ITS ABOUT YOUR PEER GROUP
by Terry ini never converted to becoming a jehovah's witness as an act of volition.
i gradually found myself absorbed into a group that "accepted" me.. being a part of something larger than myself was key.
i'd never been inside a functioning group.

Deep down inside, I questioned several beliefs for most of my life. But, unfortunately, I still am struggling with the deeply ingrained fear and phobias of Armageddon. Some days are better than others. I have been reading the book Combatting Cult Mind Control by Steven Hassan. The book makes so much sense, but I am still struggling with the 30+ years of indoctination. It is definately an emotional roller-coaster.
