A few years back a bunch of brothers in the cong. I was in would do all night field service. They would drive all over the county, through 4 or 5 different cities hitting all the bus stops, all night laundromats, convenience stores, gas stations, etc. Anyone out walking, waiting or working was fair game for their nocturnal religious peddling. Anyone else done or heard of this? I think there was a stop put to this by the old-fashioned types in the cong.

What happens AFTER baptism?
by onlycurious inmy friend is getting baptised sometime in april.
i have lots of questions.. first of all, she willing inquired about some christian books i have and is currently reading them.
both have to do with purity but i am sure she would notice some theological differences when she reads them.

Now to answer the posted question "What happens after baptism".
As you arise out of the water a vision of a white dove appears to you and God's voice is heard saying
"RUN....RUN...FAST AND FAR....GET OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE AND DO NOT LOOK BACK OR I WILL SMITE THEE AND TURN THEE INTO A PILLAR OF SODIUM CHLORIDE"

I don't want to hijack this thread but I have to take issue with this.
themonster123 wrote:
Witnesses have at one of their weekly meetings the bible reading where they literally go over the entire bible (only 3 chapters a week though) and the congregation gives their comments on what they thought of those 3 or 4 assigned chapters....So, it's not like Witnesses ALWAYS have Watchtower aids to study the Bible
This is misleading. Yes 3 - 4 chapters of the bible are covered each week but the comments the speaker and congregants give are definately taken directly from Watchtower aids. It's not like congregants are raising their hands and saying "well I think the scripture is saying such and such" oh nononono. Anyone who has studied the assigned chapters before hand has studied them along with Watchtower aids and their comments reflect the Watchtowers spin on the scriptures.

Funny thing, I read this article when it was published (I was still a JW then). I'm sure I scoffed at the "apostate" quotes at the time. I followed the story of Robert Bryant story pretty closely and I know deep down I felt a lot of pity for him, although I would never excuse him killing his family. Having seen my father shunned by his daughter, it really hit close with me.
I knew Dan Duron's ex-wife and kids, grew up in the same area and congregation (I think Dan Duron was one of the elders that df'd my dad!!). I always heard rumors about him and how evil he was. I've never met him but I'm sure he is nothing like the loving bro's and sis' portrayed him as (especially his ex). I recently met newboy at a ex-jw meetup and he too is a very nice and generous person (thanks again for the Heineken Keith). It makes me sad to think how judgmental I was and JW’s are when it comes to those who have left the “truth”.

New Ex-JW's: Smoking isn't worth it!
by AlmostAtheist init seems that many jw's take up smoking as soon as they leave the watchtower.
the reason is obvious -- they weren't allowed to!
lighting up is like giving the finger to the watchtower.

Totally agree AlmostAtheist. I started smoking as soon as I realized it wasn't the truth. I had smoked in High School then gave it up to get baptized. It was my way of giving the one finger salute to the WT. Now I'm hooked (again) and wish I hadn't started. It just isn't worth it. Although I wouldn't advise getting a hooker (STD's aren't any better than cigs), there are much better ways to give those WT jerks an F-U than killing yourself with carcinogens. I've managed to cut back a lot, even quiting for days.... oh yes DAYS at a time. I must admit though I still like smoking socially....... it makes me look sooooo cool!

Disrespect
by DJK ini logged into this site today and the first topic i had opened was one by misanthropic regarding strange things we eat.
i was appauled by the comment made by the first person to comment.
i have a good deal of respect for men and twice that for the female gender.

DJK, there is a link to the thread in this thread (by jgnat) and now here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/129755/1.ashx .
I didn't find faded-out's comment disrespectful and it appears neither did Misanthropic. Faded-out has now apologized twice for the comment (I don't think he needed to in the first place but...). I'm curious as to why you're so concerned with it. The comment wasn't directed to you, wasn't offensive to the person it was directed to. Was apologized for TWICE. You think maybe it's time to drop the entire (non-)issue? ~LL06 -

Show me the money
by onacruse inmany accusations are made, freely and (imho) frivolously tossed about, regarding the monetary motivations for various and sundry wts policy/publication decisions.
i have myself made many such statements.. however, if i was pressed to provide evidence for any of these accusations, i would be embarrassingly empty-handed.. interpolations, insinuations, circumstantial evidence, et.
al., aside: what irrefutable evidence is there that the wts has ever made a change simply and solely because of financial considerations?.

What about the Tacoma Dom Parking scandal? They had manadatory "donations" for a parking pass even though under contract from the city they were not supposed to charge for parking.

SirNose586, Everyone on the board deserves a thank you. Just by posting, informing, humoring, arguing, etc. You have all helped me see the truth about "the truth" and cope with my ever changing life.
Outaservice, I forgot my profile said I was from 'Nam. I'm actually in the US but I'm still far away on the west coast. ~LL06 -

I've been a member on this board one year today. I've grown from a confused JW, filled with feelings of inadequacy, to an Ex-JW excited for my future of freedom from the grip of the WBTS. I don’t post a lot, don’t know many of you personally and still kind of feel like an outsider since I’m not well known by a lot of you but I do love this board and the people on it. I visit here every day, hours at a time sometimes. I plan on staying here so that I can hopefully help a fraction as much as you all have helped me. I want to make new friends here and nurture the ones I have made because I can see just how wonderful you all are.
I noticed today (not sure why it took me this long but…..) how warm, caring, helpful and understanding the people on this board are and I feel the need and desire to thank all of you for not only helping me find my way into my new life but for helping so many others in need. This board is living breathing proof that apostates are nothing like JW’s portray them to be. In fact you are the opposite, you are real people, real friends who really care regardless of a persons beliefs.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you!
