If you want to get rid of your suits and do a good turn the Men's Warehouse is doing a clothing drive this month:
Thank you, Mrs Jones, that's a fabulous solution.
I'd also like to add, from past experience volunteering at a homeless shelter for battered women, that residents need ladies' business clothes for job interviews and going forward.
Many are traditional homemakers with small children in tow. They are rebuilding a *new* home away from their abusers, and becoming self-supporting for the first time in their lives.
Even for an entry-level position, it's a booster to have a classic, yet still stylish, ladies' business wardrobe to choose from. Good quality "costume" jewelry, too. Every little bit helps our sisters succeed.

Hands down, the best book about the JW's/WTS is "Crisis of Conscience," by Raymond Franz, former member of the Governing Body.

Can anyone be sure they are exJWs, or active JWs disparaging him and his case?

BOTR:
I want to be a feminist and Cinderella at the same time.
Oh, honey, don't we all! Maybe that's why I'm 15 years into a committed relationship with no ring on my finger… but totally thrived as a bridal consultant?
I watched some of the Gypsy Wedding videos and still cannot get over how they padded little girls' dresses with fake "boobs" in them to mimic a mature woman, yet the brides themselves are little more than teenagers. It's sick. They will all grow up soon enough, once the forced finery and flash is over. Sad.

Wow. Where were these people, when I took a career break to work in the bridal industry? Could have made a fortune selling lavish wedding paraphernalia and all the new-home accoutrements to them!
But I have seen it, with *some* "fringe" types, all trying to out-do each other buying the most outrageous gifts, ca-ching ca-ching for me. And all paid in full with cash on the barrelhead, because they have bottomless coffers of unreported, untaxed income to blow.
With all these "Bridezilla" shows… I'll let you in on something: It's not the bride. It's not even her parents. It's the mother of the groom, who is the greediest, grabbiest person in the U.S. bridal world. Loved the couples, feared the mother-of-the-grooms' underhanded manipulations, and always will.
Scary b*tches. But my clients truly were the couples, and my loyalties were to them and their needs/wishes and special day. A joy to assist people with a major milestone, and rewarding to actually get paid for it! Their kind referrals drove my boat for a much-needed year out of the rat race.

So I was waltzing around Tar-zhay this afternoon, passing the back-to-school section (already!), when I overheard a little girl's voice:
"Look, Mommy, it says 2012. A lot of people say the world is going to end in 2012."
"Yes, honey, but that's silly talk. It's just another year."
And in her sweet little Jersey-girl accent, I hear: "Ah, I know, Ma. They're awla' buncha' LIARS!"
I couldn't help myself. I just had to turn the corner and get a look at this wise child.
Eight, maybe 9 years old. I gave her the biggest smile I could muster and a nodding wink. So important to acknowledge little ones who can cut through adults' doomsday B.S.
Buncha' liars! She made my day.

Abusive Families Drawn Like Moths to a Flame or Does WTS Help Develop Abusive Attitude?
by OnTheWayOut inso many ex-jw's are stepping forward here and other places and relaying information about their upbringing in the jw's being an abusive one.. we have the two types of abuse- physical and sexual.
i thought i would give a chance to everyone to ponder on what's up with the high levels within watchtower congregations.
i know the subject has been covered before, but some fresh voices and some new readers might want to know that they are not the freak, not the problem in their family, not alone, able to relate to others.. as far as physical abuse goes, i consider the attitude of wts that is passed on- beat the littlest of children in order to keep them quiet during meetings.

I'd also like to add that NEGLECT can be a form of abuse, too.
Like not obtaining necessary medical/dental care for children or adults, because Thee End is coming SOON and we'll all be made perfect anyway. Why bother?
So a lot of Witnesses let themselves "go," never dreaming they'd need "worldly" healthcare benefits because no one was supposed to live this long. Many rely on snake-oil remedies doled out by other ignorant witch-doctor Witnesses because they were trained to reject "worldly," educated physicians. Not just blood, but doctors in general. And aluminum pans supposedly make you crazy!
Yet all sorts of maladies like depression and chronic fatigue lift and drift away, the farther you space yourself from Jehovah's Happy Miserable People.
More NEGLECT: Elders kept on a treadmill, so busy with Theocratic activities that their wives' and children's basic needs go unmet. This is why so many Witness ladies are forced to step up and "wear the pants" in the family: They are virtually single mothers anyway.
To be fair, how many Sisters were so busy pioneering, or greasing the congregation gossip mill, that they didn't give a damn about their kids' school grades? Those of us who were raised in it know how homework was blown off for meeting nights. Nobody cared about my A's but me, and my teachers. And a good share of them treated me like crap for being a "troublemaker" Witness kid who not only handed in homework late, but refused to participate in holidays or salute the flag. My mother cared more about her Kingdom Hall Social Club than our scholastic achievements that flew by the way.
(Of course, later she took credit for my success in the corporate world, but that's because all Witness parents are so smart it just rubs off on us kids. Or such self-discipline was beaten into us early for our own good. Or whatever excuse I was expected to be totally self-sufficient by age 17.)
How many children of elders had their dads throw a ball around with them, or take them fishing on weekends? How many Witness mothers cared to attend recitals, for us few fortunate enough to have dance or music lessons?
Too few. The Watchtower talks out of both sides of its filthy lying mouth: Do the barest scripturally minimum for your families, but TAKE CARE OF US FIRST!
