So poor, they
"didn't have a pot to piss in"
... Nor a window to throw it out of.
something i found on facebook..... a bit of interesting history reading .... enjoy ...they used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery.......if you had to do this to survive you were "piss poor".
but worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot......they "didn't have a pot to piss in" & were the lowest of the low.
the next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be.
So poor, they

so the recent topic about film franchises got me thinking.
sure, we all love the big budget, mainstream releases that are so successful they spawn never-ending (it sometimes seems) sequels.
we could watch marvel and star-wars movies for the rest of our lives (and we might just ...).. but y'know what i love?

Not exactly time travel, but the protagonist changes multiple future realities with his dreams. It’s got cheap sets, no-name actors, the cheesiest 70s music score ever, mind control, a mad scientist AND aliens.
The Lathe of Heaven is a 1980 film adaptation of the 1971 science fiction novel The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin. It was produced in 1979 as part of New York City public television station WNET's Experimental TV Lab project.
In Portland, Oregon, in the near future, George Orr is charged with misuse of prescription medications. He volunteers for psychiatric care to avoid prosecution, and is assigned to the care of licensed oneirologist William Haber. Orr has known since age 17 that his dreams change reality, and tries to prevent himself from dreaming because he fears their effects.
Haber initially considers Orr's fear as a delusional symptom of neurosis or psychosis. He puts Orr into a hypnotic trance, and encourages him to have an "effective dream" to record his brain function.
When he realizes Orr is telling the truth, Haber begins to use Orr's "effective dreams" to first create a prestigious, well-funded institute run by himself, then to attempt to solve various social problems.
Only after numerous failed attempts to "make the world right", Haber admits to Orr he believes in Orr's power. Having analyzed Orr's supremely complex dreaming brainwaves, Haber begins creating a machine that will similarly enhance his own and allow him to remake reality directly.
Orr turns to lawyer Heather LeLache for help in getting out of his government-mandated treatments with Haber. LeLache doubts Orr's sanity, but agrees to help him, eventually becoming an ally.

Dear Mr. Putin - Jehovah's Witnesses Write Russia
By Tom Harley
In early 2017, Jehovah’s Witnesses were invited just once to write Vladimir Putin. Within two months, up to 49 million letters had been sent. They weren’t all to Putin – other officials were identified – but his was the most visible name. Trouble was not averted, yet Russia came to know of one nation on earth where every citizen cares deeply about every other.
On the surface, the letter-writing campaign was a failure. Opposition which would ultimately lead to a Supreme Court ban of the religious organization continued unabated. It has only intensified since. Two and only two groups of children were recognized by authorities as at risk of “destructive psychological influence” - children of ISIS members and children of Jehovah’s Witnesses. At present, the stripping of parental rights for members of the two groups is an unused tool, but it is a tool that has been approved for use.
Witnesses around the world felt and feel the heat on their Russian brothers and sisters as though it were on them. They longed to do something and here was something tangible they could do. By taking part in letter-writing, they fortified their Russian counterparts, who are now in the eye of the storm.

Suffern's transit-oriented revival attracts investors
The recent $11 million sale of a 48-unit apartment complex on Chestnut Street shows investors' optimism about Suffern's future, said Paul Adler, chief strategy officer of the Rand Commercial real estate firm.
"We've got an unprecedented price in Rockland County," said Adler, as he spoke about the deal during the 2018 annual commercial real estate forum. "Suffern is in the vanguard of making TOD happen."
The sale was one of the most expensive real estate transactions in Rockland in 2017; the top was the $30 million sale of the former Novartis campus, also in Suffern.
In 2013, the three-story complex, then called Suffern Commons, was sold for $9.2 million to Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, a religious organization that supports members of Jehovah's Witness. Watchtower used the complex as temporary housing for members while building a new headquarters in nearby Warwick in Orange County.
The massive headquarters project has been completed, and the religious organization put the apartment complex up for sale last year. Ethel 1 Suffern LLC, whose address is in care of Moses & Singer, a Manhattan law firm, scooped up the property for $11 million in an auction-style bidding process.
The new owner spruced up the property and started leasing in December. The complex includes three styles of two-bedroom apartments, currently offering one month of free rent. Rent starts at $2,100 a month.
Rick Weisman, a Rand Commercial real estate agent who manages the apartment complex, now called Chestnut Manor, declined to reveal who's behind Ethel 1 Suffern LLC. But he said the owner is an investor who has multiple investment properties.

Eye on Real Estate: Florida Panthers' Owner is Turning 124 Columbia Heights into an Apartment Building

It will make quite a splash. That's a literal statement, not marketing hype.
Vincent Viola plans to build an indoor swimming pool at his Brooklyn Heights Watchtower residential redevelopment project.
An application for a permit to excavate a pool in the cellar of 124 Columbia Heights popped up recently in city Buildings Department records.
Viola, a billionaire who owns the Florida Panthers hockey team, bought the dormitory building from the Jehovah's Witnesses for $105 million in 2016, city Finance Department records indicate.
The 10-story property, which is located within the boundaries of the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, faces the famous Promenade. The building has views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the skyscrapers of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.
The religious organization sold 124 Columbia Heights to Viola during its multi-year campaign to liquidate its enormous Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO real estate portfolio.
The property sell-off is now in its final phase. It was prompted by the Watchtower's decision to relocate its world headquarters from nearby 25-30 Columbia Heights to the town of Warwick in upstate New York.
Last summer Viola received the city Landmarks Preservation Commission's approval to put an elevator bulkhead on the roof of 124 Columbia Heights. The elevator will be used to move cars in and out of a parking garage that's being constructed inside the rebuilding.
He's remodeling 124 Columbia Heights so there will be 101 apartments, Buildings Department records indicate. When the Jehovah's Witnesses owned it, there were 237 dorms in it.
