I'd like to take the opportunity to share that it was a black gentleman who knocked on our door and offered my mother a Free Home Bible Study. She purchased a certain blue book from him.
As she tells it: "Well, I was raised Irish Catholic and I'll die Irish Catholic, but Vatican II says we can read the Bible now, and I've always wanted to know what the priests were keeping from us...
... But please, send someone else, you're not safe in this [predominantly white] neighborhood, and my husband wouldn't approve of you [any man] coming around while he's gone at work."
So the Kingdom Hall sent a Puerto Rican sister who "passed" for Italian, LOL!
Can I blame black men and Latinas for my Jehovah's Witness upbringing?

Can we blame our ancestors for our own shortcomings?
by undercover inin a recent thread about an nfl player being allowed to return to play after being convicted and serving time for a felony, it was suggested that maybe his ancestory played a part in his attitudes and actions.. those of you were playing along at home know the deal.... is it fair to lay blame on one's ancestors in how one acts in today's society?.
i think not.... my ancestor's came here from scotland, when their lands were taken from them back home.
they came here with nothing and had to start over in a land with next to nothing, eeking out an existance in the mountains of tn and nc, always struggling.

Have any of you considered that maybe HE is a watchtower hire?
Don't you think WT would like to see this board in division and chaos?
Have you never heard of a "plant"?
Cameo, the same thoughts have occurred to me.
Imagine if we each had a nickel for every time he/she/it deliberately derailed a topic into oblivion?

Satan- Perfect Scapegoat for Witnesses Ignoring Real Causes of Situations
by flipper inin a recent thread i started on music i couldn't help noticing how many had to throw their alleged " worldly music " out because parents, or elders told them their music brought them " under the influence of demons ", or listening to music was how " the demons got inside us ".
this superstitious belief that " satan " is to blame for each witnesses demise is really a passing of the buck of responsibility so it sidesteps real issues involved.. for example : check these familiar expressions out we all heard while we were jehovah's witnesses .. .
1. if a person was stumbled and said, " i don't want to go to meetings anymore.

Now you are trying (and failing) to put words in my mouth that clearly do not exist.
Do you even realize, JD, that this huffing and puffing on a public message board is an embarrassment to your person?
"You, you, you."
Please work out a counterpoint, or something or other, that is not re-directed to insulting my personal habits, which you so foolishly assume to know.
Otherwise, I urge you kindly once again: You and your ill-will and your horse can get out. You are trolling for trouble-making on a topic that obviously does not concern you.

JD, Where you are wrong: You make claims that show a due lack of understanding regarding the facts about nicotine addiction.
For one thing, it's not a responsibility issue so much as it's physical addiction issue.
Your "little sympathy" follows by natural course: Your opinion as a non-addict and you're entitled to it.
However, even giving wiggle-room to your personal attitude on the matter — and I must admit I hate smoking, too — it does not excuse your non-sense statements coated in arrogance.
~Sue
P.S.: I'm no mind-reader, but... Have you lost someone close to you, that makes this subject such a personal battle? I totally "get" that. -

John Doe,
I've been here long enough to appreciate that you're a keen young man, a hard worker with solid goals in life.
But you're not half as clever as you think yourself. So, I urge you:
You and the @#$%^ horse you rode in on — get off this topic!
Lacking even a shade of a clue, you embarrass yourself and make enemies.
"Put that in your pipe and smoke it."
