  I absolutely had to write my disfellowship letter in order to assert absolute control over my life. It's a statement, that having considered all the things I have been told over the years by the witnesses as truth, I reject the theory that all scripture (literally writing) is inspired of God (Yahweh who murders people) and beneficial (not for me). TO be sure, there has been much useful thought gone into a lot of problems by intelligent people in the religious organisations, but to me it's like trying to reform nazism from within.

  What I liked about quoting Wheless book to witnesses, is that they can't claim he has an anti-witness bent, because of course at that time (1926) the Bible Students did not really know about the importance of the holy name Yahweh (Jehovah) which cannot be pronounced in any case.

  I wish you the best of luck also Dave, since luck does appear to exist (a drunk driver crossed to the wrong side of the road the other day and cleaned my wife and I up, writing off our car. LUCKILY we were in a 60km/h zone and not an 80km/h zone or the accident would have been twice as bad and someone might have been seriously hurt).

  Apart from JW's, do others still feel 1914 was a turning point in history?

  the watchtower claims that hisorians say 1914 was when the world changed forever.

  as a jw the year 1914 is repeated so endlessly that it seems it must have been the turning point in history and hence the beginning of the last days.

  but i have never really heard anyone else ever mention that year, apart from the odd history lesson on ww1.. do people in general ever think of or discuss 1914 as being a year of any significance?.

  Who was Barfour? Do you mean Lord Balfour of the famous Balfour declaration of the Zionist movement, of which pastor Charles Taze Russell was at least one energetic mover. The Zionist movement of course constituted each and every Jewish person to be out of place in their homelands, i.e. England, Germany, England and thereby contributed to anti-semitism.

  Sorry slimboyfat you can't just make a statement of other's who'm you think viewed 1914 as some turning point, I think the question means The seminal point in history since the alleged first arrival of the "Christ". You have to back it up with references, even quotes please.

  because i love running and i am going to start training for the durango double.

  it's in colorado (durango) on october 6 + 7. .

  it is a 50k (~30 mi) trail run on saturday followed by a road marathon (26 mi) on sunday...

  Jesus Perfect Man

  I just this morning faxed my disassociation letter to the WTBTS and posted it on another thread today. But I had to make the point that I don't just reject the WTBTS, but the whole of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Of course there are intelligent people within those movements over the aeons who have contributed something to humanity - but those additions to humanity have to be taken for their own value, not because they are in scripture or dogma.

  There are many things in the bible attributed to Jesus which are great and useful and there are other things attributed to him which have proved fatal to later generations. On that basis I reject the perfection of the composite fictional and contradictory character in the Bible as my saviour.

  As for the three times thing, it's strange but whenever I have a dip in the ocean in winter, I always make a point of going under three times, even though I'm not a christian, have not been baptised, and will not.
