Yes economics is the thing, combined with a stupid cultural hatred of women. The correspondent mentioned that even middle class educated couples were aborting female fetuses. That might be because a wealthier class or caste might require a higher dowry.

Actually dowries were made illegal but the law is not enforced.

The witnesses supposition of an inability of women to speak directly to the congregation (unless wearing a headscarf) is another one of those stupid cultural devaluations of women which really put me off the WTBTS

That is one of the most shocking articles I have ever seen -

Initially I had thought that femicide had been caused largely by the one child policy in China, but the fact that it is so rampant in India shows that that policy exacerbates, but is not the only source of the problem

Doesn't the fact that female unborn humans are being aborted and not males make you question the humanity fo the process of abortion itself?

The logic of unwanted children equating to the children being of no value is fundamentally wrong. Abortion is in fact nothing different than infanticide, or more accurately in this case, femicide.

i thought i would open up a thread on firearms and shooting.

personally i was raised around firearms as my dad was not a jw.

some of my earliest memories are of my dad teaching me how to put a round in a fleas ass at 200 meters.

There was a time when hunting took real skill and was a bit of a contest. Not any more. We can fish out the whole of the sea and leave nothing. Track them with helicopters or even satelites. Sonar and the like. The fish don't stand a chance. So I don't eat fish.

What about chickens? They don't have much of a sporting chance in their cages, six to the cubic foot. The dead stuck in there with the living. Not my idea of lunch.

Why do we waste space on golf courses, and lawns, when we could grow food trees, wild crops, edible weeds everywhere. Carnivorism is actually very rare, omonivores are far more common, so I think that everyone should grow vegetables everywhere possible. Then when economic, climatic, ecological armageddon (the real type not the theological one) comes, we'll have something to eat.

HELP PROSECUTE THE PERPS...

this post is inspired by a prior thread re 'what to do when you hear about a predator'... .

for those who may not know, i am a civil attorney whose practice is limited to sexual molestation litigation.. at present, my firm represents a number of abuse survivors who were molested by those in authority in various jw congregations.

these cases are pending.. in the course of investigating the factual background related to the clients i represent, i have stumbled across a great number of reports of abuse within the context of jw congregations.

Wow Danny, that's awesome and news to me (and I'm in my last year of a law degree). Makes sense though. I hope it applies in Australia.

I've seen witnesses instilled with a belief that they are demon possessed, and calilng out uselessly to Jehovah - The Deaf - to remove them, all to no avail. This is why I called Judaism, Christianity and Islam cults of devilry in my dissassociation letter.

In my opinion the insidious infliction of these doctrines (including by the WTBTS) especially on children is another form of serious mental harm.

I've already denied the father, and the son, then undenied him as a man (the fear crept in) but denied him as Christ.

I suppose that the concept of Christ, i.e. salvation by the murder of one Jesus and the eating of his flesh and drinking of his blood, is not salvation at all but would be racked with the pains and guilt of what had been done. It all makes me wonder what kind of trips these guys must have had (the ones who wrote this stuff) - I suppose they were right into fasting and the like.

It's amazing how much fear this Christian religion puts into us. Reading Wheless was like a blast of fresh air. It's also like reading something from an early dissident. As Wheless notes in his later work Forgery in Christianity - no doubt through the centuries such criticisms have been suppressed by book burning and exorcisms, burning at the stake, and that old favourite trial by ordeal.

The same idea prevails with temporal punishment of everlasting hell, or at least in WT theology being cut off from the resurrection which everybody else (of the WTBTS) is in our collective hallucination supposed to be enjoying.

I think Wheless is far too radical for me at this stage, it's like two steps forward and one step back, since the old irrational fears creep back in. I'm still in Deprograming 101 and Wheless work is a treatise.

Safer to take your chance with armed hooligans in public I think.

I only got to run from the cops once on a motorbike, I was two weeks too young to get my licence. Always ready for a challenge they got reinforcements and took me out head on. A shortened leg gives me a healthy respect for earthly authority.
