  The worst films you watched

  we often talk about the best films that we have seen but what about the opposite, what were some films that really disappointed you either at the cinema or at home watching them from a dvd (or vhs though that got outdated now)?

  one film i found very boring was the "horse whisperer".

  Gee, and I really liked Medicine Man.

  One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time was Grudge. But I sat through it waiting for it to get better, because I thought there had to be more to it than there was.

  I guess I can't really be a good judge because if I can't get into a movie within 15 to 20 minutes, I won't usually waste my time. (When I saw Grudge I was with my then-estranged, now-divorced husband...my time was going to be wasted either way.)

  George of the Jungle; Raising Arizona; most recently Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Payback. (Can't believe I turned off Mel Gibson...and I LOVE Braveheart!! But then, I'm a Celt!)

  Made-Up Rules Dubs Try To Impose On Each Other

  this is in reference to the thread about dubs not having pets.

  although, not a rule from the borg there are ones who would say you should not have pets.

  can you think of other silly made-up rules that someone tried to impose on you?

  Blondie, not just a regional thing -- a CONGREGATION thing. Just goes to show how they can make up rules & try to impose them.

  My ex- and I went to this congregation for a while. It was horrible. The body of elders were a bunch of dictators. Finally almost the whole congregation left -- including us (they tried to blackball my ex- so he couldn't be used anywhere because we left...too bad they fabricated stuff against him. If they had just listened to me, I could have given them REAL stuff...but women had no credibility in that congregation, and my complaints and pleas for help fell on deaf ears. They even tried to use the fact that I went to them for help to indicate I was out of control...which reflected poorly on him)...end result was the same, I guess...

  they finally dissolved the congregation and broke up the body, sent them to different congregations. None of them were disciplined, in spite of being caught in lies and other types of unethical behaviors, even going contrary to the direction of the almighty organization...

  Attitudes of JCs

  i just finished reading crisis of conscience.

  i had read half of it but never finished; something i read on this forum prompted me to pick it up & finish it.. my question is this: i'm curious, for those who have had experience with judicial committees, what has been the prevailing attitude?

  franz wrote about the lack of brotherly love in both the committees at hq in ny and in the cong in alabama.. i've had two experiences; won't go into the details for the sake of brevity.

  I just finished reading Crisis of Conscience. I had read half of it but never finished; something I read on this forum prompted me to pick it up & finish it.

  My question is this: I'm curious, for those who have had experience with judicial committees, what has been the prevailing attitude? Franz wrote about the lack of brotherly love in both the committees at HQ in NY and in the cong in Alabama.

  I've had two experiences; won't go into the details for the sake of brevity. In the first, about 18 years ago, the brothers were kind and compassionate, and I was privately reproved (but I had voluntarily confessed my "sins" and was repentant waaaayyy beyond what my behavior really demanded).

  The second time (1-1/2 years ago) the brothers were very kind and understanding UNTIL THE ACTUAL COMMITTEE MEETING. It blew me away. I was expecting to be treated with the same kindness and dignity I had been treated with when they first came and spoke with me about the allegations, which I did not deny. They were cold and I felt very much the victim of an inquisition, as Ray Franz had said. I felt like they weren't listening to anything I said. I wasn't sure what the point of their interrogation was; I had already told them what happened. It was the most horrible thing I've ever experienced, and was completely unexpected.

  I wondered how God's holy spirit could be working in men who were so cold and unfeeling. I certainly didn't feel it. But then, I hadn't felt God's spirit there for years...

  Oh yeah...and you couldn't sit in the library (aka "back room") during a meeting, even if it was because you were suffering from a migraine and the flourescent lights in the KH made your head pound even worse.

  Fine. I just stopped going when my head hurt. (Which was most of the time!)

  A CO told the elders in my congregation that if my 18-yr-old son continued to wear his tie chain close to the knot in his necktie instead of near his belt, he would not be used to run the microphones any longer.

  When our congregation hosted the pioneer school, the CO read the specific menus that were to be prepared by the sisters, which included "cookies: chocolate chips, with nuts."

  This same CO expected (and GOT, to my dismay) donations from the local congregations to buy himself an extra-large 1-ton pickup to pull his 5th wheel RV.

  When my 18-year-old son was an aspiring young brother, he was used to run the microphones at the meetings. He liked to take a gold tie chain and wear it at the top of his tie, near the knot, instead of down in the middle where they were normally worn. That was the extent of his "independent spirit." The CO came & told the elders if he didn't stop wearing it like that they couldn't use him any more.

  Serendipity,

  It's hard to remember how to dream when you've squelched it for so long...for me, at least 35 years, if not longer.

  The deal is, I did it for so long with the sheer faith that Jehovah would indeed shower me with "divine blessings" if I just hung in there...but they never came!

  I find it interesting that the quote from the 4-15 WT says "to continue to enjoy divine blessings...;" How many JWs actually REALIZE that they AREN'T enjoying them NOW? How many years did it take ME to realize it?

  i'm new here...this is my first post.

  last month i disassociated myself from the wts.

  one of the student workers at the community college where i work is a seriously unquestioning jw; a sweet woman but totally brainwashed.. knowing she would find out soon, i took her aside and told her of my decision.
