The whole process is ridiculous. Just another way for the elders to keep themselves looking busy and important.

People who actually listened to Kingdom Melodies outside the Hall

you get in their car and the kingdom melodies are playing on prerecorded piano... you go to their house and there they are in an orchestral arrangement... even when i was a complete believer i cringed when i had to hear this banal crap!

I used to hate that. When we would go over to other peoples house for dinner and the background music was Kingdom Melodies. Lame-o. And I hated listening to them in Field Service. I also hated Field Service. And going to peoples house for dinner.

What is the best state to live in in America?

interested to hear from any who have traveled or moved around a bunch....i am talking climate, nearness to mountains or beach or both, cost of living, etc.....as much as i love what california has to offer naturewise, the natural disasters and cost of living there bum me out....since i like mountains and beach, a climate a little less hot than florida.... i lean toward virginia straight south down through georgia, so both carolinas too.
maybe maryland too, but the further north you go, the colder the water and worse the winter, but still the new england coastal states are incredible........oompa.

I was engaaged once to a JW (never married him), we were not getting married in a KH, but we were having an elder do the talk..and we had to go through all the questions before he could do the talk.

Santa & Kids - To Lie or Not To Lie?
by sweet pea inthis will be our second christmas since leaving the wts but we will be away in nz with besty's extended family so probably won't bother much with trees and decorations but the santa issue is playing on my mind, especially now podlet no.
1 is at preschool.. do we bring the children up to believe in santa & co with all the magic, mystery and excitement associated with the fairytale or do we tell him right away what the deal is - either route is going to feel very strange.
my gut feeling is to go along with the myth and give them those happy memories of wonder and anticipation - what do you all think?.

I guess I am thinking of stories in the traditional sense. With made up characters and events. I don't think making up a story, or retelling a story is ever going to have to be justified. Whereas, if you lied about having an affair, and the truth came out, all those lies would have to be justified.

There are LIES and there are STORIES. I think Santa and all that goes with it is a big old story.....like Peter Pan, or Snow White. Your kids will eventaully figure out that Peter and Snow White are just made up stories. Lies are things like : I had to work late (your having an affair) or No, I have had these shoes for a while (you just bought them yesterday).
Storys are harmless and don't need to be justified. Lies do.

What is the reason that the WTS uses for not celebrating Thanksgiving
by insearchoftruth inwell i overheard my wife last night on the phone telling someone she does not celebrate thanksgiving, i have asked her in the past why and she gave the stock answer about how holidays are rooted in paganism.
well from what i know, there is nothing pagan about the thanksgiving celebration, what is the official reason that is given for not celebrating this?
