ashi, I just finished the book myself, returning it to the local library. Yes, please update us as to the reactions they have. It's quite a book, and as a jw for 28 years, I can say that it opened my eyes to some things and confirmed my feelings about other matters.

Are the WTBS the modern day Pharisees and Saducees
by Leander ini've been thinking about this for sometime now and i wanted to know how other people felt about this comparison.
the pharisees were known for hypocrisy and for also promoting traditions of men and other non-bibical teachings.
when we look at the wtbs in light of the actions of the pharisees there are some amazing similarities.

Leander, I agree with your assessment. And after reading Crisis of Conscience, my suspicions were also verified; I have felt for a long time that the example of Pharisees actually applies in more ways to the WTS than it does to the leaders of Christendom.
The examples that you mentioned were the same that I would mention as well. And I know that Ozziepost and Prisca feel the same way as you do also, judging from Ozzie's post above and comments Prisca had made on another thread.
Matthew 23:1-8 are very applicable, in my opinion, to the WTS, with the exception perhaps that they do not have particular titles, like "Rabbi" and "Father". Of course, a good argument could be made that the jw religion still has a heirarchy, and in Crisis, R. Franz discusses the almost royal treatment given to Governing Body members, especially when they travel; and by the way, he also points out that they get to travel to places and in extent that most people could only dream of.
So yes, I am in agreement with your post, and I think it's a good one!

Well, being with the bad guys is usually more fun anyway!
It is interesting how, when they see something that may contain criticism, that, rather than check it out to see whether the criticism is valid, jws are basically programmed to run in the opposite direction.
If they indeed have the truth, what are they afraid of?

That went pretty well, I think...
by SixofNine injust got off the phone with an elder who called to set up a meeting with me.
my hands are a bit shakey, but i'm settling down and feeling better, all in all.
the elder had left messeges this weekend (i was out of town), and i had heard from my mother a week previous that they were going to come gunning for me.

Six, that did indeed seem to go fairly well. However, what happens from here on in depends upon several factors, including how dogged this group of elders in going to be about supposedly "shepherding" you. As you said, if they are generally a 'do nothing' bunch, they may indeed leave you be. Or, it may be possible that they will check back, especially if the CO comes through and notices (normally by checking cong. records). But for now, yes, that did seem to go well.

Hey there terafera! ;)
Interesting post, and actually I would wonder how the school reacted to such discussions, whether they would be considered as teaching or/ having a structured discussion of religion in school, which could have gotten the brother in hot water. I wonder if he asked permission from the school first? Somehow, I doubt it, lol.
I can't recall any such discussions when I was in school, and yes, I am rather thankful there weren't, lol.
Take care! DB ;);)

society cutting costs?!
by greven ini was wondering if you noticed the society cutting costs.. for example : the books are now printed on cheaper paper and have a soft cover.
also subscriptions are no longer mailed by post but will be brought to you by publishers (cutting cost and upping field service!
to flies in one!).

Yes, subscriptions in the USA will be halted. If you have a sub now, when it runs out, you will not be able to renew it. The only exceptions will be in areas hard to reach or perhaps by shut-ins, etc.
