"A church spokesman said: 'Jehovah's Witnesses abhor child abuse and view it as both a despicable crime and a sin'."
Quote from February 8, 1965 Awake page 12:
It is the fundamental badness of modern society that causes its most advanced rehabilitation efforts to fail. On this point the book Man, Crime and Society , by Herbert Bloch observed: "Some writers see this as an indication that the roots of criminal activity lie much deeper than any therapeutic potentiality of the most enlightened program. They take it as evidence of the fact that the genesis of criminal activity lies most basically within the culture itself and the alteration of the culture is the only potentially effective inhibitor of crime."
The ARC is onto something in JW land.

Talk on "Reaching Out"-Only What BOE Thinks Matters
by Simon Templar infor the “living as christians” section of the workbook, “are you reaching out?” talk (15 min), the bethelite gave this talk at the meeting.
he totally departed from the subject matter which is the watchtower of september 15, 2014, pages 3-6. he was so far off the reservation, it wasn't funny.
here are a few highlights of what was said: 1) if any brother asked why they haven’t been appointed, and wants to know if there is a problem or condition that exists, that brother is too “presumptuous” and therefore, can’t be used.

"As long as you are acquisitive, envious, ambitious, seeking power, position, prestige, society approves of it; and on that you base your action. That action is considered respectable, moral. But it is not moral at all. Power in any form is evil: the power of the husband over the wife or the wife over the husband, the power of the politicians. The more tyrannical, the more bigoted, the more religious the power, the more evil it is. That is a fact. a provable, observable fact, but society approves of it......... So, if you observe that your action is based on acquisitiveness of power, on the desire to succeed, on the desire to be somebody............., then facing the fact will bring about a totally different action, and that is true action, not the action which society has imposed upon the individual. So, social morality is not morality at all; it is immoral; it is another form of defending ourselves, and therefore we are gradually being destroyed by society." - J. Krishnamurti -

Overlapping Generation
by pandorasbox1914 inthe september 2015 broadcast had david splane explain matthew 24:34 “truly, i say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place”.
his explanation of this scripture was by means of a chart to indicate an overlapping generation.. .
no scripture was used to show the overlapping generation concept, and as a result it makes no sense.. to illustrate how crazy this concept is, look at the lyrics of the song my generation.. my generation.

I am of the opinion that some 'brain dead' member of the Governing Body (tm) helpers committee came up with the idea of applying 'overlapping generations economic theory' to Jehovah's Witnesses problem of how to explain away the 1914 generation teaching. Look what the fools did with three loaves of bread!

Your Favorite Poetry
by compound complex inthank you, dear friends, for expressing your thoughts today on the importance of the arts in your lives.
many years ago, a number of threads were devoted to poetry, literature, even english grammar.
rather than resurrect an old thread -- usually with zero results -- i would like to introduce a new post, asking you to add some of your favorite verse.

Why would anyone choose to support Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by Half banana inwhat is the point of supporting a belief which began as a bronze age ox-headed idol called yahweh... in a religion designed for illiterate peasants now appropriated by a money-driven cult with a one hundred and forty six year unbroken record of total failure of its bible based predictions?.

Your posts are great new boy and SPOT ON! Lyman Swingle was a character and mostly was his own man. I remember vividly a dedication talk he gave at the Highland NY kingdom hall in the mid 70's about true religion versus false religion. He went on and on about 'the goddess Venus who was the original Whore of Heaven that went around have immoral SEX with the other gods. Finally she had a bastard son named Cupid that went around shooting arrows at other minor gods causing them to fornicate indiscriminately. All that little bastard Cupid was interested in was SEX!'. It was a hilarious talk and there were some quizzical looks on lots of faces in the audience.
An interesting side note about the 'apostate' you call 'Mr. Frog'. If it is who I think it is, his name was Bill Norris. My family was friends with his ex-wife and her family. The story goes that he went through Gilead but did not graduate and while there got engaged to another student. 'Papa' Knorr was not happy about this at all and sent Bills betrothed out on assignment to a foreign country thereby splitting up the couple. (Of course, the girl could have chosen Bill over her assignment but we all know what the organization can do to normal human emotions , feelings and attachments.) At any rate, he married another woman but his being flunked out of Gilead and then losing his first love took a toll on his marriage. After having two children he left his wife and moved to New York to make a career out of tormenting Nathan Knorr and the Society. The funny thing is that his ex-wife remarried in the 70's and by the mid 90's she, her husband and Bills son all left the organization! The last I heard, she had died, her husband has dementia and is in a nursing home, her son is happily long disassociated and her daughter is married to a Circuit Overseer. The 'back stories' are always the most interesting!
