Welcome to the forum, A Believer. Watchtower apologists, such as yourself, that come here to preach and expound on their Watchtower dogma, should be prepared to have their beliefs deconstructed and subjected to deserved criticism. Keep in mind that the vast majority of posters here are ex-Jehovah's Witnesses. Many here were Missionaries, Bethelites, Elders, Ministerial Servants and Pioneers and if we believed that Watchtower had the 'TRUTH' than we would still be members of the Jehovah's Witness religion. Good luck!

This thread is very informative. It seems that 'medical care' at Bethel didn't actually follow any type of 'standard of care' where each Bethelite was treated equally and fairly. I personally had excellent dental care from John Appletauer and even had minor oral surgery. Also, I had an eye exam and got my first pair of glasses from a brother from Ohio who was an optometrist and came to Watchtower Farms once a year to provide his services. Yet Dr. Roylance would not even help me investigate my digestive issues. Not one OUNCE of doctorly care or compassion from him at all. I believe those here that are posting that they got atrocious care and I also believe those who got better care. Birth control pills were available to the single sisters at Watchtower Farms for 'hormonal issues' (as was pointed out by life is too short) as one of my close friends that was a single sister was on them. I recall a young man at the Farm that died because Frank Lewis (that bastard) who was the Home Servant at the time, 'diagnosed' the young man as having the flu. He had pneumonia and died in his sleep. One of my roommates had poison ivy that nearly killed him and he went to Frank Lewis for help. Frank gave him calamine lotion from the infirmary and told him not to worry about it. His father was an Elder in California and a Pharmacist. After the father chewed Frank Lewis a new asshole, my roommate was sent to Brooklyn for medical care. In my observation, at least in the mid 70's, medical care was hit or miss and depended on who you were, who you were related to, how you were viewed and what position you held. Each of us Bethelites has our own experience in the matter and our own stories to tell. Both sides should be received with respect and understanding. (If there is a HELL, I hope Frank Lewis is roasting there eternally.......he was an ignorant son of a bitch)

Good catch, betterdaze! In the mid-70's, when I was at Watchtower Farms, the dentist was John Appletauer. (Don't know if the spelling is correct) He and his young wife lived in a private home on Watchtower Farms property. I don't know what the policy is today but back then if you had 'credentials' than you were taken care of.

Unless you are high up and indispensable, my experience is that you will get kicked to the curb. When I was there in the 70's, dental care was excellent but the medical care was atrocious. When I spoke to Dr. Roylance about my digestive issues (I had been vacillating between diarrhea, constipation and throwing up) he told me point blank: 'If you don't like the food here at Bethel, you can leave at any time.' It turns out later, (20 years of suffering later) that I have severe gluten intolerance. There was no love or concern shown for the average Bethelite in those days and my suspicion is that things haven't changed much. But that was just my experience..................maybe others have been treated more humanely.

"50 Years a Watchtower Slave" Chapter 3 Part A
by new boy inthe door to door salesmen .
southern california wasn’t hawaii after the war but it was real close.
there was great weather, plenty of jobs and no smog yet.

Thank you, new boy for the valiant effort! It seems like lots of us here share troubled family backgrounds and our forbearers may have embraced the religion in order to help them 'carry their baggage.' And as you have wisely pointed out, the 'bill' eventually 'comes due.' I look forward to more installments.
I have sent you a pm.

What age were you when you were counted as a publisher?
by OrphanCrow inthe wts has always included minors and adults in the same categories - publisher and baptized.. i am interested in knowing how many minors, approximately, are included in the publisher count.
and, at what age a person started publishing.
what age was the youngest publisher reported?.

My mother told me that I was going from door to door alone in our neighborhood at 4 years old. I don't know exactly when I was counted as a publisher because my mother always made out my time slip when I was little. My guess would be that I was counted as a publisher at around 8 years old. Baptized at 15 on January 30, 1971 at a Circuit Assembly in Nashua, N.H. and the rest, as they say, 'is history'.....................

New Religion where to look?
by Alostpuppydog inhas anyone found any religion that makes more sense than the watchtower organization?
obviously catholics make even less sense than them so don't say that.... the reason i ask is because i still believe the bible is the word of god, but just that the jw's have twisted it for their own benefit, as most religions seem to do....

Your work is not in vain! Thank You!
by de-opresso-liber inbeen lurking since early this year.
there are many of us out there (at least in this area, central u.s.) who are waking up and crossing the line to talk to each other about it.
in our area, several elders, ministerial servants and pioneers are actively and openly sharing info with each other daily.
