Ladies.......what is the perfect gift? - DOC
I am not a lady but allow me to weigh in on this. Young or old........no lady will refuse tasteful jewelry that was picked out by a thoughtful man.
It doesn't need to be overly expensive either.
my wife is still nominally in, but only because it "makes me (her) happy".
there is nothing academic about her beliefs and when i try, she interprets me as negative.. but then she cusses like a sailor and watches certain movies with me.
her birthday is coming up and it's also right around valentine's day.

Make sure the present is something that she absolutely wants. Then make a little game out of it and tease her. Call it an 'anti-birthday' present or a 'non-birthday' present. She won't refuse something that she really wants no matter what day you give it to her. Best of luck and I hope she appreciates your gesture.
i've noticed several posts recently claiming that jw friends and family members give out conditional love.
well, i'm not so sure that is entirely accurate, in fact, i would say they tend to be very steadfast in their love.
the issue is this, they have been taught a poor form of love.
I think love should be reclassified primarily as a verb rather than a noun.. If our former JW friends and family really 'loved' us, they would be showing it by their actions. When they say that they still 'love' us, what they are really expressing is their own sentimental reaction to pleasant memories of our former relationship. The so called 'love' in the Jehovah's Witness brotherhood is predicated on conformity not on individuality.
i'm interested in finding out what it was that finally enabled you to open your eyes to the real truth of watchtower.
what started me thinking, was the societys very own book...' 'revelation..it's grand climax at hand'.
i found that book farcicle.
Happy Birthday, eyeuse2badub!
what if fred franz had never existed?.
those of you who weren’t around in the days when he was the oracle of jwdom or who at least aren’t familiar with the deeper publications he was responsible for probably won’t be able to comprehend the significance of the question.
i believe he influenced jwdom greatly, and the whole feel of jwdom would have been different without him.. during the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s (not sure about 50’s), he was considered to be almost superhuman by some (a lot?
Perhaps Clayton Woodworth would have 'stepped up to the plate'. After all, he was a 'second string' minor Watchtower theologian that brought us such great works as: THE FINISHED MYSTERY and the THEOCRATIC CALENDAR! As the editor of both CONSOLATION and THE GOLDEN AGE he warned us of the dangers of vaccines and aluminum and continued to protect our health by recommending medical treatment with Electropathy machines! We would have some real 'doozies' now, that the current Governing Body(tm) would have to dig out from underneath. Poor Sam Van Sipma would have spent the rest of his days still cleaning up Woodworth's blunders.
at least, that is how i see it... the article "the judge of all the earth always does what is right".
paragraph 6 & 7 .
6 consider the experience of willi diehl.
"His loyalty to Jehovah was rewarded." - WATCH TOWER article.
What was his reward? He got his old job back! He received no REWARD but he did obtain justice. This is just one more example of the misuse of language that Watch Tower writers use in order to make things appear different from what they really are.
REWARD: "something that is given in return for good or evil done or received or that is offered or given for some service or attainment". - Merriam Webster Online Dictionary
this is a little long, but stick with me.. if you recall, when the building work was in full swing at the new lakefront villa (warwick), wt was having workers come and they would put them up for a year, or more, while they were providing "volunteer services".
with that, and the impending need for hundreds and hundreds of new khs in the usa territory, the congregations were abuzz with the need for "continued construction volunteers".
recently, as many of you know, wt headquarters has sent pretty much everyone home, and is no longer needing workers at the new warwick site, as the building is mostly complete, with the dedication coming up later this year.
Yes, life is to short, Don Underwood did indeed have a family before he came to Watchtower Farms to head up the construction there. He also had a small construction business in Klamath Falls, Oregon. When he came to Watchtower Farms in the early 70's he brought along his wife and daughter Jodi. If my memory serves me correctly, she didn't turn 18 until after they had been there a few years. Mama 'Watchtower' always favors and bends the rules for workers with advanced skills that would be hard to entice into full time service otherwise.
from a psychcentral (run by mental health professionals): a familiar item on a list of 7 types of parental abuse :.
spiritual abuse.
has the child experienced:dichotomous thinking – dividing people into two parts: those who agree with the parent and those who don’t.
David_Jay, I for one was taken aback by what you described happening to you as a child. So much so that I wanted to comment on your post but I didn't know how to. You have my sincerest condolences for what happened to you. Rather than try to catalogue what is child abuse and what is not child abuse, I think that all of us here must accept and realize that abuse happens on a spectrum and is not amenable to absolutist and strict guidelines. Much like pain, the abuse is subjective and can range from 'mild' to 'severe'. As for me and my siblings, we were raised by a fanatical, single, mentally unbalanced Jehovah's Witness mother. So in addition to the list that Anders Andersen posted we were subjected to whippings with electrical extension cords. beatings with broomsticks, the buckle end of a belt and on and on........ So rather that any of us making an intellectual exercise out of this topic, lets all agree that abuse of a child is wrong no matter what form it takes and no matter who is doing the abusing. I wish you well on your journey and much success in life.

life is to short, Don Underwood was a 'useful idiot' and a very 'simpleminded ' man (I am not saying this to insult him or put him down, it was just the way he viewed things). Just the type the organization loves because he was loyal to a fault and he would do anything that 'Mother' asked him to do. He forgets of course, that he was able to fly around the world on the 'Societies' dime to check on the progress of construction at international branches. And of course, he had his own money when he arrived on the 'Watchtower construction scene' in the early 70's.
i love math, i love calendars, and somehow, this always gets me.. 2520 - 607 = 1913. not 1914.. 2520 - 606 = 1914. from what i understand, russell realized this.
he had previously used 606 bc, of course, but then he switched it to 607 bc.
i know there was something about no zero year, so it actually should be less one, correct?.
I prefer the 'Great Pyramid' explanation of 1914. It is undeniably and unequivocally correct because it is 'set in stone'! An 'inch for a year' or a 'day for a year'.....it all works out to Jehovah's glory!
