darkspilver...........dig a little deeper into the USPS site. Richard Oliver is correct about the cost of sending a basic first class letter,as far as I can determine.

How much $$$$ will have been spent on the letter writing campaign to Russia?
by OrphanCrow ini have been following the jw chatter online about the letter writing that has been furiously undertaken by the jws around the world.
a global effort done on the command of the gb in ny.. several jws have mentioned the cost of mailing letters (and packages of letters, where allowed) to russia and the cost is substantial.
some jws have mailed dozens of letters.. the jw boast is that the russian postal system will be overwhelmed with letters.

Watchtower/Bethelite Volunteers and US Self Employment or FICA Tax?
by EnlightenedEphesian inwith so many aging bethelites being "laid off" after years of volunteer service, what hope do they have of collecting any social security retirement?
i ask because i recently learned that my mother will not receive any government retirement benefits because she did not work enough to collect the 40 credits required.
this got me to thinking about bethel volunteers.

I just checked my Social Security online account. 1975 was smack dab in the middle of my Bethel slavery. My account says that I earned $1,069.00 that year! How does Watchtower accounting work? Like Compound Complex, I only received $14.00 plus $6.00 travel a month. I wasn't working a G-job either. Rather suspicious, I think. At any rate, as I posted before, I gave up the religious slavery in 1976 and left Bethel to seek my fame and fortune. I semi-retired at 47 years old and qualify to collect almost the maximum social security available at 66 and 6 months old. The Watchtower Society promised a 'better retirement plan' (the New System) which they didn't have to put a dime into! The corporate religious monster just keeps on existing off the backs of the religiously gullible and naïve. Slavery is the least drain on capital expenditures! Anyone that becomes a Bethelite, automatically participates in a zero sum game and the individual Bethelite is always the loser. The religious/political/spiritual/corporate game known as Jehovah's Witnesses has only one winner. The corporation itself!

"teenagers were coming home with stories so bad that the silly parents fell for it and pulled the kids from school." - zeb
Ha ha.....................I had an older sister that pulled this trick on my mother back in the late 1960's. She showed my mother a Timothy Leary poem ( I think it was him) that they were studying in English class. Needless to say, my sister was allowed to quit school before the week was out!

Jehovah is sending a warning to Putin--so say jw's
by wannaexit indubs in a pro-jw forum are talking about the earthquake in kamchatka russia.
they are speculating that this is jehovah's warning to putin.
what kind of twisted logic is this?.
-

Seems like he warned them quite strongly already in 1952. Putin and the Russian government are like Pharaoh .........they are just hardening their hearts against Jehovah's judgments. We are now in the final seconds of the final moments of the final hours of the final days of the prophesied overlapping generation of the final judgment of the 'last days' of the time of the end!

My mom is into "The Secret"
by BlackWolf inlately my mom's gotten into all kinds of weird "power of positive thinking" kind of stuff.
she watches "the secret" and bob proctor videos all the time, and now she's trying to get me into it.
to me her being into this sort of thing seems kind of hypocritical.

Jehovah's Witnesses love magical thinking. That's why they are religious nuts!

Great catch, LevelThePlayingField! Many of the old timers here no doubt remember the cover page of the July 1, 1979 WATCHTOWER. This WATCHTOWER was the special centennial edition and it's cover stated in bold print:
1879 1979
Keeping Watch For 100 Years
So which is it? "Nearly a hundred years now" or 138 years counting from the WATCHTOWERS inception in 1879?

GB asks every JW to give Putin their home address
by MrHappy injw's around the globe have been encouraged to write letters to putin and the russian government.
they are expected to give their personal details on the envelope.
i appreciate that this might be normal when writing to your own government if they are tolerant, but is this not a bit strange that the gb want to give putin the address of every jw in the world?

I can see why the Governing Body members would be afraid to deal with Putin directly themselves. A Polonium 210 cocktail didn't sit well with Alexander Litvinenko. Imagine the effect it would have on Mark Sanderson. It would probably wipe the smirk right off his face.

A high control religion versus a high control government. That should make for some interesting 'head butting'.
